I was going to wait a few weeks till the offseason to start a thread about killing the chant, making Mony Mony a thing we only do a few weeks out of the year. It's over. They no longer beat us in.... anything. It's time we started acting like it.

How this happens I'm not sure but I think the athletes could go a long way to come out saying its stupid etc. Get them to stop playing Mony Mony in the stadium until the week before the game. Students getting other students to stop doing it during the fight song.
The Mony Mony chant can almost always be changed to reference the team we are actually playing, as most schools either have a 2-syllable name or mascot. "Eat $#it Redbirds, go Cats go" rolls off the tongue exactly the same. This year could have been, Eat $#it:
U-O
Ra-bbits
(USD doesn't work very well)
La-kers
Ea-gles
(NAU also not a great fit)
Ben-gals
Must-angs
No-Co (not my fav, but works in a pinch)
We-ber or Wild-cats
Agg-ies
Grizzlies (duh)
Bull-dogs
SFA (another Lumberjack team)
Grizz again
Red-birds

Literally only 3 teams (2 of with have the same mascot) didn't fit the chant. Out of 16. So MSU fans put that other team's name in their mouth 11 times unnecessarily, with 3 times they could have just skipped the first part and said GCG, which is what we do at games.
Other than the gris, I have no reason to trash these teams, I respect their players and coaches, I think it would be totally classless to change the chant each week to our current opponent.
No one's forcing you to say Eat $#it to anyone. But go ahead and think doing ESGGCG when playing Mercyhurst is bothering the Griz fanbase if that's your prerogative. I think that makes us look classless. Reason 258 I rarely peruse the BN forum..... I'll leave it to all you "classy" people.
Thank you
I know it bothers them when we play Mercyhurst. They bitch none stop about it. I do believe we need to direct
ONLY towards the GRiZ though. Like I’ve said in other threads regarding this… I want it chanted at my funeral. FTG

With success comes attention, with attention comes cockiness, with cockiness comes arrogance, with arrogance comes rudeness...and they wonder why I hate the Griz ! FTG

Do you hear Comments around the country, state, your town, about the chant. We do see Griz posters and social media commentary whining about it so I think it does bother them. Funny thing is how many posts we see from other fanbases like ISU now telling us to beat the Griz or wearing a shirt with ESG on it at their tailgate. Seems like it's a phenomenon.

Nothing triggers Gris fans more. Not even beating them twice in one season and winning a national championship to double their total 4-2. It’s the greatest chant in college football right now. Everyone not affiliated with um loves it. It’s pure GOLD! I see other schools picking up on it and using it.
