Re: Why allow the gris to reside inside our heads?
I don't think anyone here is saying to absolutely & completely get rid of it. I still think it's fantastic to chant during rivalry week, and AWESOME when we beat them in Bobcat Stadium with Mony Mony blaring at 11 on the stadium PA system. I think what most people are saying is that it makes no sense to chant it when we are playing the Drake Bulldogs or Utah Tech Trailblazers. Why even bring dUMb up in that moment? When we are kicking the crap out of EWU, or PSU, or Poly, the last thing that even remotely crosses my mind is dUMb. I'm too wrapped up in the moment of winning the game on-hand. Like others have said, that other school doesn't even cross my mind until they cross our paths. Then yes, F'em all day long...

The Mony Mony chant can almost always be changed to reference the team we are actually playing, as most schools either have a 2-syllable name or mascot. "Eat $#it Redbirds, go Cats go" rolls off the tongue exactly the same. This year could have been, Eat $#it:Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 10:50 amI was going to wait a few weeks till the offseason to start a thread about killing the chant, making Mony Mony a thing we only do a few weeks out of the year. How this happens I'm not sure but I think the athletes could go a long way to come out saying its stupid etc. Get them to stop playing Mony Mony in the stadium until the week before the game. Students getting other students to stop doing it during the fight song.

Literally only 3 teams (2 of with have the same mascot) didn't fit the chant. Out of 16. So MSU fans put that other team's name in their mouth 11 times unnecessarily, with 3 times they could have just skipped the first part and said GCG, which is what we do at games.

I can chuckle at a school hating their rival so much they tell them to eat sh*t every day. Telling every school everywhere to eat sh*t would make us legendary in a not good way.

This gets brought up year after year after year. This board makes up a percent of our fanbase and you wouldn’t even be able to change the minds of all of them! What are you going to do to make change.
It’s simple. You don’t like it don’t chant it. It won’t go away but you’re doing your part. But I can promise you all that outside of a small portion of people paying attention in this state, no one gives a crap about our chant.

Cat/Griz is fine, but everywhere else we need to let this die now. The streak ended 22 years ago, before most of our college kids were even born. I’m so over it!

Does every one posting here think them saying it should stop will end it? Should we have ushers or security throw out the offenders. Refuse the donations of those who chant it and take their season tickets. It's a chant. It will die when there is no meaning to it.

This made me think what the Gris are currently thinking. I went to egris to take a peak. There must be 20 active threads on the Cats. It seems pretty clear to me that regardless of what we chant, MSU is clearly living in the minds of every Gris fan.

Well, we did win a national championship, so it makes sense that they (and everyone else who follows FCS football) would be talking about us. MSU is a very relevent topic to discuss.

Peer pressure does, in fact, influence people's decisions. So yes, the more people within one's peer group that say they don't like it, the more likely it is that people will stop doing it.
We haven't changed much since Jr. High in so many ways.

Not sure peer pressure on Bobcat Nation will do much to impact 22,000 at Bocat Stadium. But you do you, good luck with your crusade.

Re: Why allow the gris to reside inside our heads?
Okay, I'm on board with dropping the F the Grizzlies part of the chant, and with not singing it relentlessly at non Cat/Griz games. But the song is so far inside the Grizzly fan base's heads. They are making major push to get it to end. I've even heard them claim they were the original ones to invent it and when they quit we took it up and used it against them. It's part of the rivalry...

Students will have the final say in if any of this dies. Which means it may be around for awhile. Poor Grizzlies did finally go away, but it was great in it's day.

Re: Why allow the gris to reside inside our heads?
I can take or leave the chant. I will use it when we play them. The problem is that the gris let us know what gets their goat. This chant really pisses them off. Maybe they are angry because they haven’t come up with a chant against us (that I recall) but I bet you a million bucks that if they did and knew we hated it, they would be singing it at church every Sunday. They need to get over their sour grapes attitude but with the biggest whiner being their current coach I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

Are Griz fans and Cat fans considered the same peer group?

This is where I’m at 100%. The GRiZ do not live in my head. This is in your face f*** off. I’ve listened your sh** for 30 plus years duringCataholic wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 11:11 amI for one can’t stand the description of “living in our heads”. No Bobcat fan should ever feel that way. Do we hate our rivals the Gris? Absolutely! Do we let them consume all of our thoughts? He11 no!!! Mony Mony and ESG are now ingrained as a Bobcat tradition. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It is a definitely meant as an “in your face F off” toward our rivals. But I did tire of Mony Mony in Nashville though. It was way overdone. Doesn’t make much sense when we are in the middle of a game playing another team - in the National Championship of all places.
the streak and for 10 plus yrs. beyond. I know it drives most of them bat sh** crazy because the tide has turned. They’ve earned our hatred they can wear it.

It's more than 20 years since the streak ended.
While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

I’m assuming this was directed towards my response above. Not sure where you live but I live in the Flathead Valley and have for 55 yrs. Been a Cat fan since 1975. I’ve have listened to and still listen to rude ass GRiZ fans weekly.. I never ever initiate the conversation with the dbags but usually end it with facts. My point is when we chant it at every game in my mind I’m saying look at little brother we’re kicking the sh** out of every one…. So ESGGCG.. it’s that simple in my mind.
