Ed Lamb seems like a fine coach, but the fact of the matter is, even despite his past success at SUU, the best job he could find was Northern Colorado. Despite the good reviews he's gotten this season, the Bears have won three conference games in three seasons with him. Also, I'm highly skeptical of coaches from the BYU/Utah world being able to replicate their success outside of that bubble. That's all I will say about that.
Cody Hawkins has been fine in Pocatello. But UCD didn't want him (they chose a better coach) and his only experience is what he's done at ISU and working under his dad.
I am only being realistic when I say that a program of Montana State's caliber should have much higher standards than that. If that offends people, I don't know what to tell them.

To me Vigen and Wilcox are both very safe, Shep is the wildcard that has thrived at every big stop. Wilcox is just know, very known to this area. So he comes with defensive success and donor approval!
I think right now it’s Wilcox, Vigen, Shep in that order per the eyes of our ****** AD. Speaking of that Costello can come with![]()

Plough is good. No argument. More illustrating the point that I think Hawkins is good too. Daly/howe would be 1 and 1a in some order for me, for the record. Someone totally unconnected could and likely will rise, as well, should a search become necessary. Maybe even a G5 offensive coordinator with FCS roots who's own fan base was happy to see him leave. What a disaster that would be.tetoncat wrote: ↑Tue Nov 25, 2025 12:41 pmSure I guess if you pick 1 game. Pinnick had been out and I think it took a few games for him to be up to speed. Pinnich had been out. About 12-15 other players were already out for the season for that game. I think both are good coaches, but I like Plough better. I think Plough is following the right model. I don't Hawkins can at ISU, so he's trying new things which is good coaching.tetoncat wrote: ↑Tue Nov 25, 2025 12:41 pmSure I guess if you pick 1 game. MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

I'm still in the Vigen stays longer boat, but if Daly wants it, it should be him, and maybe Howe would stay, along with as many of the rest as possible, because this current coaching staff is money in the bank!

Couldn't agree more Papa.PapaG wrote: ↑Tue Nov 25, 2025 12:35 pmUnless he completely botches the interview process or something negative comes out about him, I want Daly as well and I think he would be the younger energy needed to sustain Vigen’s consistent culture of excellence. Volatility isn’t good for a program and the team to the west has a coach who seems to enable it, if not create it on purpose.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Tue Nov 25, 2025 11:24 amImagine if you will for a minute.
You have a coaching candidate who spent several years as the DC for an elite FCS program. Proven recruiter, proven good coach. He has FBS experience and has done well there as a coordinator. He has been a part of rebuilding programs, he has been a part of consistent elite programs. Knows how to build, knows how to maintain. Now, get this. He has learned from several great head coaches. He even has experience in a program in your immediate region, knows your main rival very well, and has recruited your region with great success for years.
If Daly was coming from anywhere else with that resume, people would say he’s a slam dunk good hire. Acting like he shouldn’t be the leading candidate because he’s from here is just foolish. Now this doesn’t mean they don’t do any actual search, but with his experience with this program, the current players, and knowing that we want to keep the continuity that we have, he is without a doubt, option #1.
Bobby was a very disciplined player, too. I like the coach who has a plan and doesn’t need to be the “star” of the program like Hauck has set up for himself in Missoula.

Reliable word out of Portland/Corvallis is that it is turning into an interview process of not only "what does your resume show" but also "what can you bring to the table?" in terms of transfers and money. The guy from NDSU would probably excel most in category 1 and Wilcox best in category 2 (Uncle Phil).

Agree 1,000%. If Bobby is willing to come back, I wouldn’t even conduct other interviews. It is so low risk and high reward.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Tue Nov 25, 2025 11:24 amImagine if you will for a minute.

I'm increasingly beginning to think that we'll have both Lamson and Vigen. Lamson said after Cat/Griz that "coming to Montana State was the best decision I ever made". Will he want to go back to a bad FBS team to play his senior season or chase a National Championship and Payton Award at MSU? I know which option I'd pick.

This is the new aspect of college sports that is making me focus on professional sports more. The dismantling of a team when a coach leaves now is too easy in the current environment. Hard to put energy into supporting something that can collapse so easily.PortlandCat90 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 25, 2025 1:31 pmReliable word out of Portland/Corvallis is that it is turning into an interview process of not only "what does your resume show" but also "what can you bring to the table?" in terms of transfers and money. According to the NDSU fans, they believe it will be Polasek that gets the job (complete speculation I'm sure). But if that does happen, does Vigen still look at the CSU job.

If Vigen is here, yes. If he's not...I think less than 50/50. I know he loves it here, all that... but he came here bc of his relationship with Vigen and his ability to develop quarterbacks. There's a chance if Vigen leaves Lamson follows imo.

Please tell me that if Polasek takes the OSU job, Vigen would not go to NDSU. That’s an absolute worst case scenario for me.
