I just want to clarify something, I don’t believe that Lamson is/will be/should be the starter because he’s a transfer from Stanford. In fact, I would say if two of them are at the same level, start the younger one.Clinton T wrote: ↑Tue Aug 19, 2025 9:48 amLike Tom said above, I wish he (Chance) would have displayed that speed when given the opportunity last season. When he decided to tuck it in practice yesterday, nobody was catching him. Tom has done a great job of referencing his HS T&F times - not sure if it is coaches limiting him or Chance being tentative to tuck it and utilize that 100m speed. Agree with Tom and Belligerent though - you bring in a transfer from Stanford and he is on par with your other in house guy, you play the guy from Stanford. There wasn't a clear separation between the two in terms of decision making - both were throwing with good rhythm and not (thankfully) throwing checkdowns every other drop back. Drove in from Great Falls in hopes to calm my nerves about the QBs and I am glad I made the trip. We are going to be more than fine at that position this year imho
I was impressed with the competitiveness of the guys. Didn't see anyone taking reps off and the guys were getting after one another, especially in the 1 on 1 DL vs OL drills. That was FUN to watch! What wasn't fun was the choice of practice music! Would it kill them to play a little Foghat?!
It was also fun to see all of the families moving their kiddos into the dorms. All of the excited kids walking around campus. Great energy on campus. I remember the day 24 years ago when my parents helped me move into Langford Hall like it was yesterday. So excited for these kids. I brought my son and he asked, "How do I get to come here faster dad?" Brought a tear to my eye.

I would agree. I think there is so much discussion between the current top three choices primarily because they have different strength. Not 100% sure which one transfers best into the newer scheme.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Tue Aug 19, 2025 12:50 pmI just want to clarify something, I don’t believe that Lamson is/will be/should be the starter because he’s a transfer from Stanford. If I understood Vigen correctly, the team will know tomorrow, they’ll make a formal announcement when they release the depth chart on Saturday.Clinton T wrote: ↑Tue Aug 19, 2025 2:38 pmMy apologies. Re: Fall Camp
Where is VIM?
I’m high on the Florence kid. He looks the part and throws a great ball, but I think he takes a few too many chances for the coaches. Very comfortable and patient in the pocket. Also, haven’t seen much of what, if any, his running ability is. He could be a great one in another year or two. He had a couple 15 yard passes up the middle in the scrimmage that should have been caught. Those things happen and our running game can do anything it wants.
Wilson needs to open up the wheels to give himself an edge. Seen it a couple times, but he has a pass-first mindset. Also sees the middle of the field and will take some chances on 50/50 deeper balls. I like it. Also young and could be great in another year, if not this year if he opens it up.
Lamson tends to play it safe, throws a great ball, but gets the yips at times and goes to his first option when the pressure is on. He can settle down, and when he does, he looks great! His first two plays of the scrimmage against the starting D were 5-yard passes over the middle. I’d welcome that all day.
All three could be great, and I’ll be pretty excited for any of them to put their mark on the offense. Passing game with any of them will be an improvement. The playbook is going to be different this year, and I’m here for it! The QB spot isn’t a worrisome for me. We will see what it does to the running game I suppose. Think we will be just fine on offense.
Personally, I feel like it’s between Duchien and Lamson, and the safe choice is Lamson. The team is good with any of the three. WRs are high on Duchien.
I’m excited for any of them, and there doesn’t seem to be much of a drop-off.
Should be another good year to be a Bobcat!

If Tommy were a elite passer, he wouldn't be trying to make the Raiders roster as a WR.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 14, 2025 5:43 pmI think it’s okay to rationally talk about potential differences of players. I hope he'll be awesome, I hope all our QBs will. And someday there will be a better QB playing for MSUZ than Tommy, of course.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 14, 2025 7:49 amWho has thrown Tommy under the bus?nanacat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 14, 2025 7:43 amI'm not really sure why it's necessary to throw Tommy under the bus on order to elevate Lamson. Good grief he hasn't been made QB1 yet, and hasn't played a snap. Until he does, Tommy is one of the best QBs MSU has fielded and we should be grateful for what he brought to the team, both as a player, as a representative for the university, and as a genuine great person.
To think he's irreplaceable is also wrong. There will be others who are better, as that is what college football demands and creates. This program, in the short time that I've been a fan, (15 years) has grown into something terrific! I'm excited to see who the next Walter Payton award winner is from MSU, who actually leads the team to that National Championship win, and next undefeated season.
Tommy left his mark on this program and made it better, maybe Lamson will too. Let's wait and see.
He was an absurdly great athlete playing out of position...who DESPITE playing out of position is still a 50-50 shot to make a 53 man NFL roster.
At a different position than he won the Payton Award.
Which should really tell everyone everything they need to know.
As an athlete & a leader, hes going to be tough to replace. As a QB? Things are going to be just fine.

Honestly most of these interviews are the same year in year out. “We’re optimistic, these guys are showing really good stuff, we’re coming together as a team…etc, etc”. And if we are even more honest, the player ones are almost all carbon copies. That being said, the Sterbick one has some good and new info on our offensive identity. I really like what I saw!

I'm with Tomcat in this. The interviews have been exceptional in both quantity and quality. The reporters are doing a great job getting the most out their opportunities. There's been very little "coach speak" IMO with very authentic/direct answers to questions.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 20, 2025 11:16 amReally? The media has been doing an amazing job. My original comment has nothing to do with their questions. And I agree there hasn’t been a proliferation of coach speak. That being said, I thought Sterbick’s interview was more revelatory than others I’ve seen in quite a while. For the first time in quite a while we probably won’t feature a run heavy qb system and the way he talks about attacking vacated space was something I hadn’t heard before.ClowderUp wrote: ↑Wed Aug 20, 2025 11:41 amI'm with Tomcat in this.
