Did that last year, now doing it again. Love Vigen, hate the current environment where each year it is a bidding war. Coaches and players looking for greener pastures and hoping they come back. Pro sports and top level college have gone bonkers with guaranteed contracts and huge buyouts. (College athletes don't get guarantees) All funded by fans.

Re: Vigen Oregon State rumors.
He's clearly trying to move up to the FBS. Eventually he'll get a job, whether this weekend, next month or next year. You can only do so much to keep a guy that is ready to leave.Catsrgrood wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 9:09 amJust curious what you’ve seen in the last year tells you that he’ll be around for 3-4 more years?Montanabob wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 7:57 amPolasek can still or be terminated. it just changed the terms of him staying.GoldstoneCat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 7:43 amI would submit that I'm nearly certain we are going to try mightily. I stink think Vigen stays for 3 or 4 more years.
He was a finalist for a job last year, but didn’t work out for whatever reason.
He’s a finalist for a job right now, we’ll see where it goes.
If he doesn’t get this one I’d put money on him being in the running for a different job in the coming weeks.
There is a chance it doesn’t work out this year and he’s back at MSU next year, But next December will look exactly the same if that happens.
While I’d be more than happy with 3-4 more years, it’s looking a heck of a lot more like 0-1 more years.

I think you're right on here.
Obviously, I'm looking for reasons OSU should hire anyone other than Vigen.
In my mind, OSU needs a shot of energy and enthusiasm both for their players as well as their boosters/fans.
Coach Vigs has done a great job of installing consistency through processes/systems. He's not a dude who's going to fire up a fan base that's down in the dumps.
I'd be more than happy if we were able to hang on to coach Vigen.

I suspect you're right, but even if Vigen doesn't go to OSU I think we'd be kidding ourselves to think that's the only open job he'll be a legitimate candidate for. This could go on for weeks unless the situation is resolved one way or the other.

Re: Vigen Oregon State rumors.
If it was announced next week that he's going to OSU once the playoffs are over, the silver lining would be that it would give MSU clarity and perhaps even the chance to make a hire before he leaves and mitigate the bleeding.
The best case is obviously that he stays, but the worst case is that he leaves and the school doesn't have any time to react before players are jumping in the portal.

Fully agree, the last thing we need is another Danny Sprinkle situation where Vigen gets hired by someone super late in the "coaching carousel" cycle. If he's leaving, better to know now so they can get a plan in place for how to move forward.MrGoodKat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 9:59 amIf it was announced next week that he's going to OSU once the playoffs are over, the silver lining would be that it would give MSU clarity and perhaps even the chance to make a hire before he leaves and mitigate the bleeding.

When Vigen arrived in Bozeman he was handed the keys to a 2019 Mercedes with 20,000 miles on it. Oregon is offering him a 2015 Nissan Altima with 275,000 miles on it. OSU will be a true test of his coaching ability.

High school signing day is also December 3rd. Hopefully the team is spending this week making sure all our commits are committed to MSU and not Vigen.MrGoodKat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 9:59 amIf it was announced next week that he's going to OSU once the playoffs are over, the silver lining would be that it would give MSU clarity and perhaps even the chance to make a hire before he leaves and mitigate the bleeding.

Yes don't forget that while the FCS regular season is over the FBS season isn't over till after this Saturday. There will be more jobs open a week from now most likely. Also remember when we breathed a sigh of relief when Choate missed out on the Boise job? Don't underestimate that angle. Uhhgggg.

1. i think OSU would be a career end for him because if doesnt win 8+ by end of second year he is out of FBS as a head coach.Catsrgrood wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 9:09 amJust curious what you’ve seen in the last year tells you that he’ll be around for 3-4 more years?Montanabob wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 7:57 amPolasek can still or be terminated. it just changed the terms of him staying.GoldstoneCat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 7:43 amI would submit that I'm nearly certain we are going to try mightily. Since he's almost definitely leaving before 12/31 I'd rather he just get this job now (by Sunday) so the team can regroup ahead of the first playoff game and whoever is staying from the coaching staff can work on keeping as many guys as possible and securing our hs signees. If he doesn't get OSU he's just going to keep trying until the cycle is over. Rip the bandaid off.

Re: Vigen Oregon State rumors.
Do you think Vigen honestly thought he could make it through this interview process this week without it being a huge distraction? He spoke several times last week about controlling momentum among 18-23 year old kids and now they’ve been thrust into this situation after a huge win and the biggest test in front of them.coloradocat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 10:23 amSince he's almost definitely leaving before 12/31 I'd rather he just get this job now (by Sunday) so the team can regroup ahead of the first playoff game and whoever is staying from the coaching staff can work on keeping as many guys as possible and securing our hs signees. The players are dealing with the exact same thing. Many of them are getting actively recruited to leave.RyeCat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 10:28 amDo you think Vigen honestly thought he could make it through this interview process this week without it being a huge distraction? He definitely understands that it's a huge distraction. I'm saying that if he gets the job it will be done and everyone can adjust. If he doesn't get it then everyone has to keep dealing with the unknown until he gets a new job.RyeCat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 10:28 amDo you think Vigen honestly thought he could make it through this interview process this week without it being a huge distraction? The thing that worries me is that if players are recruited to leave and this falls through how will they adjust/prepare for the playoffs? To me it's a huge mental drain even just reading about this!!catzz wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 10:34 amThe players are dealing with the exact same thing. Re: Vigen Oregon State rumors.
No doubt it’s tough and not sure anyone has the answers on how to best handle it. Lucky the players, coaches and organizing have some experience with it with our run last year. All successful teams are experiencing it to a degree. I’d also wager that players decision to stay or leave has less to do with Vigen coming or going and all to do with money.WeedKillinCat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 10:45 amThe thing that worries me is that if players are recruited to leave and this falls through how will they adjust/prepare for the playoffs? 3. Bozeman QOL.
4. Program support.
5. Homesteader not a wanderer.
1. That’s your opinion. He doesn’t seem to share that opinion or he wouldn’t have interviewed. And if that happens, he’ll absolutely be able to find another job and he’ll be a few million dollars richer doing it.
2. Valid. But again if this was a top priority for him, he wouldn’t have interviewed two seasons in a row for a different job.
3. Your opinion, not necessarily shared with Vigen.
4. Yea it’s great here, for FCS… There is more money at OSU to throw around, so financially speaking, there’s more support there. And if a coach can do well, the fan support would be great too.
5. Yea, he’s stuck around for a while at the few stops he’s had. But a million dollar raise generally gets people to pick up and move. And again… he wouldn’t have interviewed two seasons in a row now if he wasn’t willing to move.
As a fan, I’ll be bummed when he leaves. Whether it’s to OSU, or somewhere else in a few weeks or somewhere next December. But it’s going to happen. It’s the reality fans need to face.
Enjoy it while it lasts, put faith in the program and AD to make the right hire to keep it going and really just hope we win the whole damn thing this year so we at least have that.
