Saw a feature on YouTube that said NDSU made Polasek an offer he couldn't refuse so he took his name out of consideration.

Considering all the people who have taken themselves out of the talent pool and that Vigen and the assistant coach from Alabama are the only candidates left, Vigen would be the obvious choice. That said, it tells you what kind of job, FBS or not, it really is.

I don't know if I agree. Sheppard was at Washington and well-regarded there. According to some, he was the leading choice going into the process. The college game has, in many cases, gone the way of the NFL, betting on the young dynamic first- time coach to figure it out. There's still a decent chance this ends with Vigen here. And now CSU is off the board (Jim Mora) so there's one we won't have to dodge.

What does success look like at OSU? It doesn’t appear that they have the NIL money to really chase the CFP. So, is consistently going 8-4 a success at OSU? I truly don’t know.

I think getting into a bowl game vs a Big 10/12 team and winning would be considered a huge success to start. Something like the Las Vegas Bowl.

Also, most likely the PAC12 champ is going to get an AQ in the CFP. Is OSU positioned well for that considering the new landscape of the PAC12?

Sure wish we could do something like that, or at least try to keep Vigen here.

I would submit that I'm nearly certain we are going to try mightily. Who knows if it's enough but I doubt very much all the entities around this program are sitting on their hands with regard to keeping Vigen and/or keeping players out of the portal.

Polasek can still or be terminated. it just changed the terms of him staying.
I stink think Vigen stays for 3 or 4 more years.

The MW champ isn't getting in this year. Why would the MW + 2 get an AQ moving forward?

Because it did last year with Boise State? It's probably not accurate to say that the PAC-12 will "most likely" get an AQ spot if they stay with the current format, but it's also going to be arguably the best non-P4 conference and its champion should at least have a decent shot every year.

Beyond disappointed that this is happening at a time when all of Bobcat Nation is excited for the player’s opportunity in the playoffs not to mention their excitement in just beating beating the Griz. Finish your job here first. Now is the time and this is the place Go Cats💙
=D^
The reality of modern college football. I'm sure they'll announce it, what I'm unsure of is if he'll coach the playoff run (if he leaves) or if however or Sterbick will on an interim basis. Probably Sterbick since he's been a head coach, game management etc. These guys are aware of what's going on and it's going to go fine one way or another. Vigen has earned the right to take his shot if he chooses.
I know you're right, it'll all be fine, and I'm sure the players and other coaches are fully aware of what's going on, and will know the plan before we do. They all know there's a big game next Saturday, and will all be watching the game this Saturday in preparation for that. And then there's a big game the following Saturday, and so on. This whole process is much more difficult for the fans because we aren't privy to the discussions, team meetings, etc., we just have to wait for the articles and press releases, and spend time on forums like this speculating and guessing until those happen.

MSU football is in a good place. Leon has done, and will continue to do a fantastic job in hiring the right guy at the right time. The threat of losing more position coaches, players, and recruits is what makes this whole thing so much more difficult, because if it was only Vigen, that would be an easier pill to swallow. Being in the same shoes SDSU was in last year, with a mass exodus, would truly suck!

This is where the rumored big gift information would be nice to hear about. Last year when Vigen was looking at WSU it was floated as game changing. We never heard anything else about it

MSU doesn't have a good AD and president because it has a good football coach. It has a good football coach because it has a good AD and president, among other things.

Just curious what you’ve seen in the last year tells you that he’ll be around for 3-4 more years?

He was a finalist for a job last year, but didn’t work out for whatever reason.

He’s a finalist for a job right now, we’ll see where it goes.

If he doesn’t get this one I’d put money on him being in the running for a different job in the coming weeks.

There is a chance it doesn’t work out this year and he’s back at MSU next year, But next December will look exactly the same if that happens.

While I’d be more than happy with 3-4 more years, it’s looking a heck of a lot more like 0-1 more years.

I really don't have much of an idea how this all works but isn't it possible that schools have a package together for their coach in the event he/she is offered the job and tell coaches to let them know if they get the job. If so, and they have a reasonably close offer they throw it at them? I'm thinking maybe Polasek(sp) was offered and NDSU offered him a better (or good enough) deal to make him stay.

I know it's up to the BOR ultimately, but if Leon went to Vigen and said, "What do you need to stay?" How would that work?

The smart sensible hire would be Vigen. However the sexy hire is the younger dynamic assistant from Alabama who also has NW ties. I think OSU will go that route and we keep Vigen one more year.
