Re: Injuries (post Idaho game)
Ya, I was thinking about this after the terrible news about Danny U. My first thought was, man - we are getting hit HARD by the injury bug this year. Then I quickly remembered that we've lost I believe FOUR players to season ending injuries... and yes three of them were starters. Unfortunately they're all on the defensive side of the ball, and yes I think it's just a coincidence they all happen to be ACL tears. Could just as easily be broken bones or other injuries that require surgery.91catAlum wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 4:58 pmNot every fan base roots for a team that lost 3 defensive starters to ACL injuries.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 12:38 pmI’m pretty positive every fanbase has this conversation every year.nanacat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 12:27 pmSo those two, Dowler, Schmidt, and now Danny U... I know football is a rough sport, and injuries happen, but is there something different that should be addressed in their strength training and workouts? I know the strength coach does a fantastic job overall, it just seems like alot of guys with the same, or similar, injury.
Can you name a couple other teams that have?
I think the Griz have lost at least four players to season ending injuries this year and I'd be willing to bet if you go research the NDSU and SDSU rosters you'll find the same.

Didn't we lose 1 or 2 backup lineman for the season? Are we getting Elliott back ever? Maybe not all have been season ending but we've had a lot of contributors missing big chunks of time.catatac wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 8:11 pmYa, I was thinking about this after the terrible news about Danny U. Re: Injuries (post Idaho game)
We all tend to think OUR team is getting the worst end of the injury luck, largely because most of us don't follow other teams closely enough to know exactly how many of their guys are also hurt. Another factor to consider is that almost all of the recent injuries have happened on the defensive side of the ball. I went back to the depth chart from the New Mexico game and every single guy on the offensive two deep is still healthy and available to play unless I've missed something. So, we can worry about all the injuries on defense but we can also be thankful that the offense has remained remarkably healthy so far. Overall, I doubt MSU is significantly worse off than most other teams and I'm sure they're better off than some like Idaho.

Re: Injuries (post Idaho game)
Agree that injuries are a part of the game and happen to every team but 3 of 11 defensive starters out with season ending ACL tears in the knee seems more than coincidental. Could there be something with the strength and conditioning influencing these specific injuries? I think at the least, it's a fair question and I'm sure they are evaluating it. I don't know the overall statistics of college football injuries being knee related or percentage of , but it would be interesting. Mostly I just feel sick for these 3 kids having their seasons over.

Well considering we were missing 2 guards and a center for that game, I hope so!MSU01 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 9:24 pmWe all tend to think OUR team is getting the worst end of the injury luck, largely because most of us don't follow other teams closely enough to know exactly how many of their guys are also hurt. Re: Injuries (post Idaho game)
I believe they are down 2 OL, one is season ending I think. They their leading RB out, will be back, Cummings that played against us has missed quite a bit of tome this year. Had a defensive player out for the season, I think he was a starting safety. If layne gets back it may only be for the last couple of games.technoCat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 4:41 pmWho is hurt for Idaho other than their QBs? And those aren't season-ending necessarily. I know there is some bias as far as feeling like we get more but right now we are missing a starter from all 3 levels of defense for the year with ACL tears. Isn't Stillwell a knee too? Look at our luck with RBs the last 3 years. Starts to make you wonder after a while if it's not a systematic issue.cats2506 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 2:47 pmGo tell that to IdahoKIX wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 2:35 pmNot entirely convinced of that...watched a ton of BS/FCS football over the years and you don't see these season ending/serious injuries #'s, per say, at dUMb, the DSU's, etc. And consistently. Perkins, Davis, Polidore, Schmidt, Danny, Dowler all All Conf. type players. Not to mention the last couple years, too. I'm not making excuses for them, teams need to have depth, and as to their QB issues if you want to play at this level you need more than 3 (1 so and 2 fr) scrawny QB's
They are now crying about the hit that took that one out, but it was an absolutely clean legal hit.

The Vandals have 66% of their QBs out with a broken collarbone. That can’t be coincidence. Probably should fire their strength coach immediately!

I don't necessarily agree that all the acl issues are S&C problems. But, trying to make your point by comparing a broken one to torn ligaments doesn't even make sense.Long Time Cat wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 7:35 amThe Vandals have 66% of their QBs out with a broken collarbone. A couple of those backups are named Owens and Singleton. I think we’ll be Ok.
There are folks on here that have better memories and coukd give us a 20-year depth chart at any given position.

Well... other than missing our RB1 and starting Center, yes the offense has been healthy.MSU01 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 9:24 pmWe all tend to think OUR team is getting the worst end of the injury luck, largely because most of us don't follow other teams closely enough to know exactly how many of their guys are also hurt. I grew up drinking raw milk straight from the cow.
