Ugggggly

I was impressed with the OL…. Other than that, just go ahead and burn that game tape. What happened to our defense….. Yikes.
As a former player I really hate to say this, but it looked like some (and I emphasize some) players quit. It was a brutal game to watch, but so was the Wyoming game last year (in a VERY different way). I hope this game like last year’s Wyoming game wakes up a sleeping giant and the Cats start rolling.

What was our payday on this game - $10k per point?

So was this more of a Defensive breakdown or an Offense that is inept?

The Box score shows a Defense that could not stop their passing game, and a special teams breakdown giving up long plays…throw in 3 INT’s and we’re toasted?

Or, just one of those complete dismantling by a far superior team we have no place in playing?

Tommy is a great runner but still limited as a passer against very good teams.

Time for Chambers.

TD Beavers
What other very good teams was he a limited passer against?
All of his Wyoming games. If anyone watched any Wyoming football consistently over the last couple years, it’s clear he’s not a viable option as a passing QB

I wouldn't be too worried. We're out matched at the skill position level, but we played pretty well imo.
I didn’t watch our listen to the game, but wow, your blue and gold glasses need some cleaning, this was a dismantling of a 4th ranked FCS team by a middle of the road PAC 12 team. This should not have ever happened. Maybe coaching, maybe, scheme, maybe under developed players…but I would lay this at the feet of Garza and Vigen…but mainly Garza!

Sit back and watch what NDSU does to Arizona. Not predicting they win, but dang. Cats were off tonight.
It’s always interesting to see how ndsu does vs fbs teams. Down 7-0 first quarter.

Not sure why people are calling OSU a possible middle of the road PAC12 team. They are ranked 4/12 in all ranking polls. That's a good PAC12 team.

I love how we go from Tommy being the golden boy and untouchable to he can't throw and shouldn't be a qb...
I was ripped for saying Tommy wasn't ready last year. He has played some really good games and made a lot of really good plays. He was more ready than I thought but he has thrown a lot of deep balls that the WRs made great catches on since the start of the playoffs last year.

Don't get me wrong he's good QB, but is not a super polished passer. Even his 10 yard throws on curl routes are not thrown hard and have a little float to them. It's probably something he can improve upon but the fact remains he isn't as good a QB as a lot of people thought. Still good, but not great.
He was always a better story than a QB last year. Everyone was caught up in the amazing playoff run.

He'll get better but not as fast as some people would like. I expected his flaws/inexperience to come to light this season but was hoping a stacked RB room would give him room to grow. Instead we have absolutely no RB room anymore so he has to do it all. Trial by inferno has it's pros and cons.

I really think the O hung in tonight. I think the D didn’t.

I like Tommy. He’ll keep improving. He’s our guy.

Honest question though to all of you who follow scouting closer than I do…why do ALL of MSUs QBs seem to be run-first year after year after year. Why can’t we recruit a really good passer?

How do we see/ use Tommy going forward? Do we think he can develop as a qb who is a dynamic run threat, or is he more of a murray/troy hybrid who can hurt you with a favorable matchup in the pass game but is not a full field or maybe even half field passer?
I don't think we know any more than we knew three weeks ago. Is that a failure of the coaching staff, a failure of Tommy or just an unfortunate schedule?
Probably more the schedule than the prior 2, but one thing you could see both against mcneese and tonight, not as much against mhsu, is that he has a tendency to not fully trust himself and aim, or guide the ball a bit instead of letting it rip. He's an elite runner, though, that was clear tonight.
He throws floaters instead of darts, regardless of the distance. That's fine as long as the receiver is in the perfect position. If not, it's an interception.
Yeah i think that's right, actually, hadn't thought of it exactly as a floater but yes i think you're right.
Lance masked this a lot last season...
So did getting hurt early against NDSU. The legend of Touchdown Tommy remained intact because he wasn't exploited by them.
We just gave up 68 points without forcing a punt, and you guys are beating up on the QB...

Tommy threw 3 picks tonight, which is bad. But the offense moved the ball decently well, considering we were playing an FBS school and we had no RBs.
Tommy and the offense are gonna be just fine this year. The defense, on the other hand, certainly has some issues.

At some point the staff is going to have to utilize what we do have in the RB room. Yeah the QB run game might work a lot but it's not super smart. Especially when our 2nd best passer (maybe best) tore his ACL in camp and we have no good options after Tommy. Elliot isn't Ifanse, or even Sumner but damn run him and give him a chance.

He’s a very good passer. His career rating was something like 170 coming into the game. He had no interceptions until today. He had a bad night but still completed half his passes. I recall Lulay going 12 for 31 against a BSC team. He had several games below 50%. I think his completion percentage was below 55% one year.

This had 0 to do with the offense and everything to do with a defense that looked completely lost most of the game. Definitely some bad passes today though, Tommy will learn.

I don't mean to come across as beating up on him. Just pointing out that while some people elevated him to god-like status immediately, some knew that he had things to work on that defenses would figure out. I still think he'll become a very good QB, maybe great, but he's not immune to critique just because he led us to Frisco last year.
