How do we see/ use Tommy going forward? Do we think he can develop as a qb who is a dynamic run threat, or is he more of a murray/troy hybrid who can hurt you with a favorable matchup in the pass game but is not a full field or maybe even half field passer?
I don't think we know any more than we knew three weeks ago. Is that a failure of the coaching staff, a failure of Tommy or just an unfortunate schedule?
Probably more the schedule than the prior 2, but one thing you could see both against mcneese and tonight, not as much against mhsu, is that he has a tendency to not fully trust himself and aim, or guide the ball a bit instead of letting it rip. He's an elite runner, though, that was clear tonight.
He throws floaters instead of darts, regardless of the distance. That's fine as long as the receiver is in the perfect position. If not, it's an interception.
Yeah i think that's right, actually, hadn't thought of it exactly as a floater but yes i think you're right.
Lance masked this a lot last season...
So did getting hurt early against NDSU. The legend of Touchdown Tommy remained intact because he wasn't exploited by them.

I wouldn't be too worried. We're out matched at the skill position level, but we played pretty well imo.
:-k

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

Lol, nice sneak
Great playcall-- very imaginative.

Why waste it when you are down 40?

I didn’t see any injuries. There’s one goal we accomplished.

Offensive line held their own. If only they had some non-QBs to block for this team could be really dangerous in FCS play.

I love how we go from Tommy being the golden boy and untouchable to he can't throw and shouldn't be a qb...

I didn’t watch our listen to the game, but wow, your blue and gold glasses need some cleaning, this was a dismantling of a 4th ranked FCS team by a middle of the road PAC 12 team. This should not have ever happened. Maybe coaching, maybe, scheme, maybe under developed players…but I would lay this at the feet of Garza and Vigen…but mainly Garza!

I know this is a decent power 5 school, but this is officially the worst game defensively I've seen the 'Cats play in the last 5 years. I agree with the statement that if Banks was still here, this game is much closer. Our defensive scheme for this game has been far too much zone. They are sitting back trying not to let the big play happen, but in doing so, they are getting ripped to shreds for 10 yarders every other play. I feel like if we played a little more agressivley on defense in this game with some press man coverage and a few more blitz packages, we would be able to make a few of those stops and get our defense off the field. I don't recall Oregon State having to punt at all this game and there are 7 mins to go in the 4th. At least we've got the rest of the season to make some improvements.
MSU basically does that every game. If you can get a pass rush it works. Did MSU pressure the QBs once?

Couple that with Mellott’s second int and all those returns and it going to be a huge scoring game.

I remember several plays we got pressure it under 3 seconds and Nolan had a quick throw to a wide open receiver dialed up.

He can throw but he isn't yet a passer. Great athlete, great moxie, maybe a good enough arm but he's not more than a 1 read qb at this point it doesn't seem like. He wasn't in the playoffs either and he played well within that. I think he can play well this year, but he will have to continue to develop for us to get where we want to get.

When we disguised coverages we slowed them. Otherwise picked apart

Sit back and watch what NDSU does to Arizona. Not predicting they win, but dang. Cats were off tonight.

BB is the last person to put on Blue and Gold glasses.

OSU has a good offense. Give them credit. They manhandled the DL. Teams that have that score points. Also recognize their return teams.

Some odd things happened in this game. Still gonna be lopsided but I’d say more like 49/56-28 on a normal night.

MSU’s defense had no answer. Their coach did a good job of getting his team to focus on this game.

There were clearly some huge Xs and Os issues-- particularly on D-- and that is concerning. But it was also a Jesses and Joes issue. They were just bigger/stronger/faster. That is a good football team-- they will be middle of the pack in the Pac-12 or better.

They were 10-12 on 3rd downs and converted one o the two fourth downs they had as well. It wasn't like they were just running wild *every play*-- we would stop them a couple of times but could never make the final stop. Sometimes that was scheme but a lot of times it was just their guys making a play or using their athleticism to get past our guys.

Definite down-arrow for the team, but sometimes the other guys are just pretty good. . .

Well, tonight answers a lot of questions. The O-line is good and will continue to get better. Beyond that, a lot was exposed tonight. QB play was pretty ugly overall, we’re essentially a one-trick pony at this point. Gotta give props to Chambers, he was the ONLY bright spot offensively tonight. Defense? Nah, they didn’t even make the plane out… I hope Vigen has a good long visit with Willie Mack about the ATROCIOUS defense. I don’t care that Oregon is Power 5, I don’t care that we weren’t supposed to win. This Cats team got a dirty South A** beating tonight and you could see the players with that “let’s just finish and get outta here” look by the 4th. Passion was gone, no fire to be found. That was disappointing to me. Onward I guess…

We had 168 rushing yards (-2 by non QBs) and 3 rushing touchdowns without our top 4 RBs when the FBS opponent knew our injury and inexperienced QB situation. I think Housewright did ok under the circumstances.

I was ripped for saying Tommy wasn't ready last year. He has played some really good games and made a lot of really good plays. He was more ready than I thought but he has thrown a lot of deep balls that the WRs made great catches on since the start of the playoffs last year.

Don't get me wrong he's good QB, but is not a super polished passer. Even his 10 yard throws on curl routes are not thrown hard and have a little float to them. It's probably something he can improve upon but the fact remains he isn't as good a QB as a lot of people thought. Still good, but not great.
