Yes, I'm sure that's true. But obviously he had an agreement with the coaches. Communication is a valuable thing. We've lost that in this current culture. Good to see it's maybe coming back.

I hope the furry cows from Fargo lose every game by 4 TDs next season.Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 7:57 pm
NDSU finally had real losses in the portal. Yes they have lost players before but A. not to the extent they did this year B. they lost offensive linemen which is unheard of for them.
Fraase and How are correct here. There are consequences to early playoff exits and real benefits to finishing on top. Cats reaped those benefits this year.

Can what end in a tie next year? NDSU doesn't play in Vegas until 2027 when they play the Bobcats, and I assume none of us want that game to end in a tie!Montanabob wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 11:04 pmCan it end ina 0 - 0 tie in vegas next year? Hunter Provience to NC State still blows my mind. And that's nothing against him...I think he's a really good, talented player.

Re: Bobcat Portal News
The portal has now closed. While losing the three CBs hurts, it was not unexpected and there is a good chance these players will be replaced by existing players on the roster or one or two pickups from the portal. Losing Providence was really the only surprise but the TE room is very deep. While UM has been very active in the portal, based on the players MSU lost, there doesn't really appear to be need to even consider more than 4-5 transfers.

I believe that's just for entering the portal. Pretty sure players in the portal can still commit at any time, but with the semester already having started, they likely wouldn't be able to enroll unless they get a special exemption.doebrmnn wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 12:46 pmThe portal has now closed. I think the special exemption for this semester ends tomorrow. If I understand right. Of course they can announce transfer anytime and show up in the spring.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 1:47 pmI believe that's just for entering the portal. Re: Bobcat Portal News
There is absolutely nothing stopping players from transferring at any time of the year, so long as they are able to enroll and be part of the university system they intend to play for. That is the reason for the lull in announcements right now. Any transfers will be announced after the school year has ended at which ever institute of learning they are at. Basically, the Justin Lamson route. He chose to stay at Stanford and finish a degree, then transfer, all of which apparently was known by MSU admissions and coaches, if I'm not mistaken.
I believe it has been stated that the only surprise transfer to the coaches was Jhase. The word about that is he didn't intend to transfer before the Natty, but that he was forthright with the coaches after the game and before entering. Doesn't sound like there was a bad vibe about his departure in the end.
Provience was buried at his position, being 3rd string in 2024 to upperclassmen and then again in 2025 by underclassmen, he was in a position to look for a place to get playing time and maybe make some money. At the time of his commitment, he will be the only upperclassman in his position group next year barring any additions later.
The fact that the coaches approach is to keep recruiting and developing players, rather than depend on hitting on transfers in bulk, is a great thing.

Re: Bobcat Portal News
This is true, and I hadn't really thought about it until listening to Colter and Sammy's podcast. They mentioned Carson Williams going to Indiana and how he had come into Bozeman out of high school, been developed in the Bobcat program, won a natty and transferred up to FBS, and basically how much that will speak to other high school players causing them to want to come play for the Cats. I knew that, but just hadn't thought about it until they sort of spelled it out. And of course that's way different than what's happening west of here.bob12 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 10:46 pmThere is absolutely nothing stopping players from transferring at any time of the year, so long as they are able to enroll and be part of the university system they intend to play for.
