Three losses in four years???

Post by crazycat » Wed Sep 27, 2006 8:44 am

What is this fascination with three out of four losses to MSU that UM fans won’t quit talking about. You’d think a school that is always in the playoffs would be more focused on winning the big prize, but every time they start talking about the Bobcats, they get all fired up about losing to MSU 3 times in four years. Get over it.

At MSU we’re proud of that feat, but we’re just as proud of winning national titles in three different classifications and being the only school to have ever done so. We won those titles back when the Big Sky was loaded with quality teams. We had to beat out Boise State and Idaho (throw in Nevada-Reno in ’84) just to win the league. We’re also pretty dang happy about our three conference titles in the last four years and having gone to the playoffs in 2002 just two years after finishing 0-11. We’re proud of that quick turnaround. Few teams can make that kind of claim. We’re also proud to have won the league tie-breaker in 2002 and 2003.

So UM. Take after us MSU fans and find something else to dwell on besides just losing to MSU.

And then back to 1-10 in a blink of the eye. You have all the right to be proud Crazycat.

I know I got my degree at MSU after all but I don't think we've played 11 games yet

I'd say there's more cat fans bragging about winning 3 out of 4 then Griz fans bitching about it. And cat fans should be happy about it.

Sure, we'd love to beat up on the cats every year, no doubt. But Griz Nation looks at the bigger picture, getting to the playoffs. I believe cat fans are starting to realize it's time to get to the bigger picture, too.

As rtb stated in another post, the 3 out of 4 were HUGE, time to move on. Not only beating the Griz, but making a run in the playoffs.

All these Griz comments remind of the roach scene in King Kong. The lights have been on the Cats for 3-4 years and as soon as there is a flicker in the light here come the Griz roaches from out of the rock :)

Lets Go Cats .. time to throw/light up another flare! Keep the roaches under the rocks. We all know they will be squished mush when we put our boot to them in November too. Lets just keep them under the rocks until then :)

I have to admit that I am guilty of this one. If I had to choose between beating the griz and not making the playoffs vs. losing to the griz and winning the national championship, I would have to think about it for a while.

Funny how I can't remember the Griz fans talking so much about their playoffs when they were on the big winning streak. That's all you would hear for 16 years was 'The Streak'. But, oh, now that we've won a few, they convieniently change their focus to the playoffs. That's called spin doctoring. Not that we aren't guilty of it, too.

The main reason Cats fans mention the 3 of 4 is because they want to give Griz fans $h!t about it. Not because it's that big of a deal. Winning Cat/Griz gives the winner bragging rights, hence we're bragging. You never hear commentators mentioning bragging rights because a team went further in the playoffs. Rivalry games are for bragging rights, so let us brag. I think UM fans took full advantage of their bragging rights, didn't they? Please correct me if I'm wrong. Give me some examples of how UM didn't bother mentioning their 'streak'. Cat fans have other things, as I mentioned earlier, to be proud of/brag about, so don't worry about it.

Since we've won three titles to UM's two, how about we turn around and say that UM is just interested in making the playoffs, while MSU is more concerned about going all the way?

Spin doctoring/pot/kettle/black. All the while, you've had NO chance to "GO ALL THE WAY" in all but two years out of the last 22. And those two chances ended early.

3 out of 4, 16-6, whatever...get it out of your system because you'll get your asses kicked in Missoula this year. 8)

I guess so. Just ask Nebraska/Michigan, LSU/USC, and many others. Do you want to just call it a 1/2 a championship. I'll settle for that. 2.5 beats 2. UM is a mediocre playoff team. 2-3 in championships. No road wins. MSU is 2-0-1 in championships and has won on the road.

That was a response. Someone inquired (see the question mark), therefore I responded. When you know you're wrong speak louder or write in large bolded, font. What's the matter? Can't stand the truth?

Yes, but we've gone all the way three times in the last 106(?) years and you're only done that twice. Actually we went as far as we could in 1964, too. We won the Camelia Bowl, UM lost the Camelia (twice).

Get over yourselves and quit bringing up things that you're envious of. Like I said at the beginning of this thread and like this thread has shown, it's the Griz fans that keep bring this stuff up, not the Cats. Quit crying about getting beat by us for the last 3 of 4 years and then acting like we're the ones bringing it up. You're just arguing with yourselves.

I would have swore that until the Cats went on their current losing streak, Cat fans were accusing Griz fans of living in the past. My mistake

Not at all. I'm still accusing UM of living in the past. You're stuck on that 3 of 4 thing, which is in the past. Let it go and be beautiful to each other. I merely brought up the past to point out that we do indeed have other things besides beating UM to be proud of.
