He's a guy that plays 2/3 of the snaps each game. Open lines of communication or not, now is not the time for this kind of social media post. There's not a chance in hell Vigen was ok with this from a dude that plays a lot.

First of many I’m sure. I’d bet we loose at least one more of our secondary starters if not more

I think any player on MSU or ISU getting calls from multiple schools offering them big chunks of money and telling them to get in the portal and come play them needs an agent. As fans, you should want them to have an agent. I'm not sure if this is the way to go about getting an agent but I wouldn't know.
Some players are also from not well-to-do families and an opportunity like this is a dream come true.

Seems like this issue is Vigen has said he wants open communication. But he also wants focus on the game. If someone posts about portal that shows he is distracted and can distract teammates. Does it cause more issues getting rid of him or keeping him thru the game. Seems like we have heard last year there was some distraction. Maybe the first post that was deleted started it and staff made a choice.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 27, 2025 1:42 pmI think any player on MSU or ISU getting calls from multiple schools offering them big chunks of money and telling them to get in the portal and come play them needs an agent. Re: Carson williams…
Not really surprised are we? Sucks he did this before the championship game has even been played, but he was the most likely of the DBs to chase that inevitable large sum of cash they would all be offered. He has a very proud and outward personality, so I'm not surprised about his tweet.
If he is publicly and actively looking for an agent, my guess is he is being offered anywhere from $200,000-$500,000 by multiple P4 schools that are desperate for DB help, and he needs to explore them and sign one before they disappear. Those are deals that he can't refuse, and I wouldn't blame him at all for taking one. The timing of it just sucks.
If I'm a betting man, Seth Johnson and Tayden Gray are also currently getting offered anywhere from $50,000-$200,000, and I'm assuming that both of them are gone as well, but at least they aren't going public with it yet. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Caden is getting the biggest NIL offers of all the DBs, but I just don't see him leaving.
We are quietly becoming DB university, and a secondary farm system for the FBS. If this year's team has proven anything, its that we have a next man up mentality. Our young DBs will come and go, but we keep reloading them with talent that is just as good or better. We will be just fine next year no matter what happens in the portal. I'm almost certain of it.

Re: Carson williams…
Williams is definitely a good and talented DB but all year long his actions rubbed me the wrong way. Seems very much what the Cat team culture is not. Self absorbed. JMO. If we could snag another Meredith or two from the Portal and next man up, should be fine

So is he going to play in the championship game if his intention is to hit the portal?

I would venture that Vigen already knew and on 2 Jan the portal entry will be announced.tetoncat wrote: ↑Sat Dec 27, 2025 2:00 pmSeems like this issue is Vigen has said he wants open communication. He will play, but if we get ahead, 2nd team will play and he will watch.

I think it just depends on his current mindset. Is he still busting his ass in practice? Is he focused? Is he being a good teammate?
Or on the other side of the coin, is he checked out and being a distraction?
I trust this coaching staff to know the answer answers to that question and to do what’s best for the team.

Re: Carson williams…
Posting that on twitter seems like a strategic part of a well thought-out plan to obtain the professional services of an agent and explore possibilities.
I'd be surprised if this was done with input from our coaching staff. I would think they may have a better plan for finding an agent.
I expect to lose a few to the portal, but this timing...
But I've no experience with this, so that's just conjecture on my part.

Re: Carson williams…
Agreed. I'm sure Carson isn't the only one that is going to cash in. I know the coaches and players are all hungry to win this game, regardless of what other opportunities are waiting for them on the other side of it. I trust their process. I have no doubt Vigen will have them focused this time around. He has incredible leaders on the team. Crews, Brott, Eiden, Lamson, Fleischman, Reed, Taco, Jones, they all want this game bad. They will help Vigen get everyone right and not let anyone take the moment for granted.wbtfg wrote: ↑Sat Dec 27, 2025 2:56 pmI think it just depends on his current mindset. While I’m sure the coaches don’t like it, I don’t think it’s a big deal either. He’s likely going to transfer. More than likely, the coaches and his teammates know that. It won’t have an impact on how he plays.

Not a big deal to me, there will be other players out there on January 5th who also know they're transferring even if they haven't said anything on social media yet. On both sides. The best team that night will win like it (almost) always does.

I agree, and if he steps up and plays well and wins the National Championship it'll only increase his stock.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Sat Dec 27, 2025 3:46 pmWhile I’m sure the coaches don’t like it, I don’t think it’s a big deal either. I still think the timing sucks but he's a 20 something kid. They're not always known for maturity, decorum, and timing, especially in this age of social media addiction.

Re: Carson williams…
It it possible that none of us really know for sure what his tweet means? Seems like a nothing burger to me. I understand the leap here, but until he isn't, he's still on the team
well.......we gonna pitch it!

Bingo. And if he’s seeking an agent, after deleting the “announcement soon” post, maybe he’s taking the correct route and not chasing an offer that may not materialize. Or maybe Vigen advised him to get professional help as part of the open line of communication.cat_stache_fever wrote: ↑Sat Dec 27, 2025 7:02 pmIt it possible that none of us really know for sure what his tweet means? Or just maybe he’s f’ing with all of us and getting a good laugh out of it.
But the only real thing I have to contribute is to please be careful disparaging a player still on the team (not directed at you, Stashe). Nobody knows behind the scenes in his life.

Re: Carson williams…
The players phones have been ringing since game one in Oregon. I’m sure his started buzzing around week 10 this season. We have 7-15 players potentially returning next year that could make the jump to FBS for next year. I just hope they do it only after thinking it all through. Some will definitely cash in. Others won’t.tdub wrote: ↑Sat Dec 27, 2025 9:02 pmBingo. Re: Carson williams…
Just watching the Bowl between New Mexico and Minnesota yesterday...I noticed Humphery got in on a goal line play where he took the snap and handed it to the QB who threw a TD pass. That's the only play besides special teams where he actually got onto the field. I hope he got a lot of money for that!
