Yes, it could happen. But let's not be naive. Even without access to extra tickets there is ALWAYS a possibility that an existing season ticket holder will sell their tickets for a profit. It's happening now, and it's always happened. Long before this season, it's happened. Cat/griz tickets have always been scalped for as long as I can remember.
It's always possible. But it's a lot more likely when people suddenly have 3x their normal ticket allotment.

Hopefully Karmic fear will still keep most in line. Only time will tell.

I know all the extra money I make from selling my tickets pays for my Yellowstone Club dues. Pretty sweet.
You have clearly stated you are not reselling but other posters have shown examples of those who are. At least acknowledge that it will happen.

Sure, it will happen, but it’s not the norm or why most people requested additional seats. I have had season tickets for a long time now. I have become friends with the other season ticket holders in my section. We are almost like family since we also see each other in the tailgates, at QB club meetings, at road games, etc. Every one of them in my group of season ticket holder friends is from Montana, grew up here, are lifelong Bobcat fans, and love everything MSU. I have yet to meet a transplant Californian that is buying up season tickets only to sell the more desirable games for a profit. I’m sure there are people who re-sell, but they aren’t going to get rich doing it and aren’t why most people are trying to get extra tickets to this game.

As for priority points getting the first shot at seats. That’s the way it should be. MSU athletics is successful right now because of funding. You would be amazed at what the QB club alone funds for football; coaches bonuses, medical equipment, players iPads, fueling station, players flights home for the holidays, recruiting trips, flying recruits families in for visits, salaried staff positions, etc., etc. MSU could just as easily be Portland State or Northern Colorado if it wasn’t for the money from the QB club. That money comes from donors. I won’t even get into the facility improvements, which is mostly big money donations. We all love to see those things happening and the athletic success that comes with it, but aren’t really interested in how or why it’s happening.

Yes, it sucks that some folks can’t go to the game this weekend. Tickets are a supply and demand issue. I wish there was a more fair and equitable system for getting everyone who wanted a seat a chance for one. I’ve tried my best to help some of them by giving away a few of my tickets for free (BTW, I do that for every game) and selling the others for face value. I bet that’s the norm with season ticket holders rather than them just selling their extra tickets for a big profit. I haven’t read of a system that would be ideal. Sure, expand the stadium, but who is going to fund that? Most likely, it will be big money donors that make it happen.

I think the simple solution is we just expand stadium seating to 100,000 then everyone can come!

Every single gris fan I've talked to the last few days said they were going to buy tickets and all but one said it was unfair (and or was pissed) the way MSU handled it. They thought griz fans should get just as much access as Cat fans. Seriously.

Yep, and if you go on Facebook this is the gris fan view. They believe the gris are entitled to tickets (way more than 500) and MSU is being "unfair" to them. Just crazy.

So I got 3 tickets from another season ticket holder at face value. We only needed 2 but think we know who get the third.
Even Cat fans that are unable to attend are helping to pack the stadium.

I agree there isn't a perfect way to manage this but I do have one complaint about it all. If I'm understanding correctly, let's say I have EIGHT season tickets, and all I wanted was just ONE more for a relative. Let's also say there is a guy just BARELY ahead of me in the priority line and he has ONE season ticket but wants EIGHT additional tickets. He gets all eight and I don't get my one. Seems like there could be a better way to handle that situation.

I have to say this sounds less than awesome for us Cat fans that aren't season ticket holders and want to try to make it to the game. We either get to Duke it out on the computer at 10 AM Monday or get gouged by season ticket holder folks buying up tickets.

And before anyone says, why aren't you a season ticket holder? Not everyone lives near the stadium and can go all the time. But this is a once in a lifetime game. I'll move heaven and earth to go to it, but I'm anticipating a ****** show.
Just to clear some things up. We ALWAYS allow season ticket holders to request 4 extra tickets for every game. All they did differently was increase that from 4 to 8. You know why it has NEVER been an issue before? Because even allowing those ticket holders an extra 4, there are still tickets available.

Now we have a BIG game. Demand at an all time high. MSU increased this REQUEST for extra tickets from 4 to 8. Why? To ensure that every single ticket possible would be in the hands of Cat fans. That's good! Start reaching out to your fellow Cat fans. If they haven't given them to friends and family, let's hope they sell at face value and pack the place!

I'm sorry. This just feels a lot like an NFL season ticket holder being upset they can't get into the Super Bowl without paying a fortune despite being a great fan. They have to draw the line someplace and at some point money will talk. I don't like that but it's reality.
Stupid. Why not keep it at 4…. Cat fans would have purchased every single ticket during the pre sale. Every Cat fan on here saying this ****** has a ticket in hand. Would you be ok with this if it meant you missed the game? Doubt it
My point is have you ever complained about those 4 extras? Probably not. But just because, let's say they DID keep it at 4 extras instead of 8 extras. Maybe you would have got those tickets. But still every Cat fan wouldn't have had tickets! That's what I'm saying. We would have the same complaining, but just different people complaining.

Maybe this will be a net positive and increase season ticket holders. Get enough of those and get a stadium expansion!

But to answer your question; IF my 30 years of ticket holding wasn't enough, and IF I went from 4 to 8 to 10 to 18 tickets every year wasn't enough, and IF my other donations weren't enough and others got an opportunity for EXTRA tickets before me.......no I wouldn't be pissed. I'd have a watch party with friends and family and if it was SO important to me I'd look to get on the lost for season tickets next year!
Good perspective for sure. I apologize if I came off rude, just bummed out for the fans that can’t make it.
Oh no, you didn't at all. I get the frustration. I really do. I have friends and family hitting me up and I hate that I'll have to tell most of them no. But this was all part of the plan to ensure it is CAT fans packing our stadium!

Who is more likely to get 2 tickets and try to sell them for outrageous prices? Is it the season ticket holder or the guy off the street who rarely goes to games? We all know the answer.
I'd say the guy with 4 tickets is much more likely to get his wife and kids, etc to the game of a lifetime vs the guy who randomly receives 12 instead of 4, who can still take his wife and kids and then fund a trip to Nashville with the rest.

Ok but you intentionally cut off the rest of my post to make your point. Kudos.

I said that there are likely very many great Cat fans on the outside looking in. Just like there would have been if they didn't give extras at all. 21,000 is 21,000. But the fact remains that if the goal is to get ONLY Cat fans in the stadium, it's a much safer bet giving extras to season ticket holders to start; rather than any guy off the street that may or may NOT be as great of a fan as yourself.

People are just now getting their extras. Despite the belief that many will just be sold for huge profit, I feel better and better each day that these extras will go to Cat fans for a reasonable price 99% of the time. Start hitting up all your Cat fans.

If it's any consolation my adult daughter just asked me if I had tickets and even though I started with 26 today, I had to tell her I don't! She'll have to hit up all her friends and cross her fingers. But she asked me to late and thus is life. But every single one of mine went to Cat fans! \:D/

OK, quick rant mostly because I'm pissed. I have been a Cats fan for a long time, even when things were bleak. I graduated spring of 01 after the cats put up a perfect 0-11 on the football season. I have been taking my kids to games since they were old enough to walk. I since moved out of the Gallatin Valley. But it has been tradition to see at least 1 game a year during the regular season. I usually pick the homecoming game since it is usually near my birthday.
Alright onto my beef. For the last 2 years I have not been able to buy a ticket in a seat at face value price. By the time the tickets go on sale to the general public there's not a seat in the house. (No, SRO is not a seat). I can't even get to a garbage game like northern colorado or PSU. Now this game, I don't even get the chance to buy a ticket. I'm so pissed and upset I might just become a gris (That's not true and I just threw up a little). I would just like to see 1 game a year.

Is there only one SRO area? Looking at the stadium map it looks like only the grassy area on the north west corner. I thought one time I was told SRO is also above the band. Was I misinformed?

I personally prefer when people cut to the point they're responding to for board readability vs posts becoming long chains of repeat replies, but personal preference.

Beyond this one game though, it's ultimately a detriment to the program to have so much concentration of very limited seating. Strong fanbases are much wider than they are deep. I understand that there was a time where ticket sales were tough and it helped the program to sell as many season tickets as possible regardless of how.

But this is year 3 of no new blood allowed in the ticket holder pool. Worse it's come to the point that there's enough financial incentive to make that reality permanent. Lots of graduates going out there and starting to make a good living with a good education who would like to keep their enthusiasm for the program going. But to have any hope, they have to know a guy who knows a guy. It's not efficient, scalable, or inviting.

Long term it is MUCH better for the program to induct 3 new season ticket holders vs getting one old one from 8 seats to 16. The rules going forward need to reflect that opportunity.

Mine shows 67 total listings (without putting a filter on number of tickets). Only ~168 total tickets available. None of these have been selling either. Sat there all day.

Tickets were available on seatgeek for the SFA game last week for less than half of face value.

Tickets were available on seatgeek for the SFA game last week for less than half of face value.
Quite observant. What does that got to do with this game? Besides the obvious fact it's rivalry game that's never happened in playoffs and there's more demand than supply?

I'm not sure what your point is?
