We NEED turnovers...

One of the glaring weaknesses from the defensive side of the ball is the lack of turnovers. This past weekend, with Leblanc's INT the power of that turnover was contagious. Igniting the offense with field position, the crowd with enthusiasm and the defense with confidence.

The defense is on the snide. They played well enough for the offense to win on any other given year, but, it is not good enough yet for our offense. The defense must hold the opponents offense to 10 points or less, or we lose. The only way for that to happen is to create explosive moments and take some chances by going for the ball on running plays and downfield passing. It appears to me that the DB's are dropping back and maintaining zone assignments and the recievers are cruising through the zone unchallenged. I would like to see blitzing on 2 and 3rd down and for more aggressive DB play with contested passes rather than "above all else, keep the play in front of you". That attitude is important, but risks from blitzing LB's are compensated for by rushed throws, razed QB's and off line throws.

IMO: this year will not hinge on our offense, but on our defense who can get more turnovers. Go DEFENSE!!!

The defense can only do so much. If we would stop turning the ball over
5 times against Chadron
4 times against Davis
3 times against EWU
we would take the pressure off the D. When we had 0 turnovers we beat Colorado. Coincidence I think not.

That is obvious. If the offense would hold on to the ball it would make it easier on the defense. BUT, the whole concept of football centers around the defense making it easier on the offense, not vice-versa. The defense has been on the field too much. But, the defense has not created turnovers. My point centers around the need to create more opportunities for turnovers to stimulate potential scores, better field position, crowd involvement, and easier drives for the offense. The defense is always the key to successful teams offensive success, not vice versa.

In short, we need MORE PLAYMAKERS on Offense and Defense. There has been a lack of playmakers on this team the last 3 games.

We forced to two turnovers in the Chadron game in the second half. We had an interception in the second half of the EWU game. Usually the O does nothing but 3 and OUT.........................when it is given back to them. However, I must say I do agree that we need more turnovers...maybe it will help.
