Well, nobody here is going to have anything critical to say about this press conference! Love this guy.
Accept for the fact he’s ducked us a couple time leaving us high and dry to find a new game. Looking forward to karma showing up in bobcat stadium friday night.
He was more pissed than anyone that the game got cancelled. It was the SLC that forced it to be cancelled, not SFA.

The SLC scheduled us a conference game the same week that we had previously scheduled to play y’all, and it couldn’t be rescheduled.

Unfortunately it made us have to schedule a horrible sub D1 opponent last minute. Everyone in the athletics department I know was extremely upset about it.
Sure you're aware, but that home & home got replaced with 2 home games against Mercyhurst and we've been catching crap about it for two years now. Last minute scheduling sucks.

It certainly does suck, but it's still wrong to insinuate that the SFA coach is the one who initiated the cancellation of that home-and-home series. He's clearly very excited to come and play here.

Haha....coach seems like a character.
Carthel is a phenomenal coach and even better dude. The players love playing for him, which is why other than the first year of the portal SFA has done a great job at hanging onto players. A lot of these guys have been with SFA their entire career.
Definitely seems like a coach people like playing for!

Just curious. Who's your fastest player on offense, defense, and besides Vidlak, can you please name your top 3 most important players? Just want a good scouting report from a knowledgeable fan's perspective.

Even though it was frustrating that our Out-of-Conference game fell through, I have respect for SFA. You guys had a very similar season to us in your league. Lost to an FBS team in Houston, lost a close one to ACU in the second game, were 0-2 and turned it around to go undefeated and roll teams the rest of the way.

Vidlak/Lamson also had a similar journey where finding a change in scenery did their careers wonders. Both are probably top 10 QBs in the FCS after having wildly disappointing starts to their careers. It's pretty cool to see both of these team's journey to get to this point and should be a good game on Friday night!
On offense Kylon Harris and Clayton Weyland are Vidlak’s go to receivers. Kylon is a speedster with great hands and is really good at beating people deep, and Clayton is just a high motor guy who’s really good at piling up the RAC yards. We have a deep RB room but Wimbley gets most of the carries and has a really good mix of explosive speed and power running. In short yardage situations we usually sub in backup QB Gavin Rutherford who is a very strong runner, but has a good enough arm to make it hard for defenses to know what’s coming.

Defensively Jaydon Southard is a guy who finds his way into pretty much every play, leading the SLC in tackles for loss and leading the team in tackles. Ky Thomas is a high IQ defensive end who is great at recognizing and blowing up play action or read option plays. And Charles Demmings is a ball hawk who has an uncanny ability to lock pretty much anyone down. It’s why Charles got an invite to the senior bowl and east west game.

On special teams we use 2 kickers, Alvarado for short kicks and Hand for deep ones. Hand has made a 56 yarder like it was nothing this year, still had about 10 yards behind it. And return man Bugs Mortimer is probably the fastest player in the FCS. He’s returned I think 4 or 5 punts for touchdowns this year. He missed last game with an injury though and I’m not sure if he’ll be back by Friday, which hurts us.
Sawmill gave yall a good scouting report I will vouch for him... Colby will have the young men ready to play.. I can't wait to be at the game and hear your fans.. We should have two drafted in Charles and Kylon so watch them both great young men off the field too..Colby has had a long hard battle to get where we are as a team.. I am just so happy to be playing yall and knowing he is my coach leading my team. We both recruit the same type of tough mentality players seeing yall have 13 Texans in your roster.. What's the latest on the player that got into it with your coach? I hated to see that..it would be great not to have to play against that young man but just hate the negative stuff around it..

I certainly wish we could get more Big Sky or MVFC teams down to Nacogdoches for out of conference play. We’ve struggled heavily to get quality OOC games for years in several sports, and it’s not for lack of trying. Many schools don’t like to visit Nacogdoches because it’s kind of a hassle to get to. Closest airport is 2 hours away, so away teams always have to land in Houston or Shreveport and make the additional 2 hour bus ride. You’d think it wouldn’t be that much of a hurdle but it really is.

Didn’t realize this is the only football game on Friday and will be nationally televised on the primary ESPN channel.

If SFA promises not to move conferences again I'm sure we would love to try and schedule another home and home. The Bobcats should be playing a game in TX at least once every 3 years. There are definitely enough teams down there to choose from.

What are everybody’s plans as far as setting up for tailgating come Friday? I think we have to contend with graduation which might be a bit of an issue

Was told that the regular lots would open at 3:00. Not sure if the RV's can get in there sooner or not.

How do your fans travel? hoping to see some purple on Friday night :suds:
Not 100% sure what to expect. SFA did send out an email yesterday gauging interest in setting up a chartered flight to Bozeman for $1000.
I would expect MAYBE 1000 fans wearing purple friday night. most likely closer to 500.

I never said that. Just commiserating about trying to fill schedules with quality opponents.

SFA fans can travel pretty well for bigger games. Just from what I’ve seen online and from alumni there should be quite a few fans making the trip. The university is actually chartering a fan plane from Longview to Bozeman Friday morning as well. $1000 gets you the round trip ticket and game ticket.

This is so good for our fan base.. we want to see what a championship team, facility and fan base act like.. Good things are happening for SFA and a new stadium and all athletics facilities getting upgraded since joining the UT system.. Our basketball facility is one of the tops in the nation but football and other sports has been lacking.. We have a great president (5-6 different ones in 6 yrs) Our new AD makes things happen and our alumni base are getting involved with sports.. I can't wait to be at the game.. We are pretty locked in and I can promise we will never give up.. I say probably 1000 fans on our side..

If there are 1,000 there that would probably be the biggest showing ever, for an opposing team not the Griz.

Great time to be a BOBCAT!
