My phone just sent me a notice that Chris Klieman is retiring at KSU and my immediate response was oh crap. Open it up and it looks like they already got the replacement lined up. Phew

Vigen has made more than enough to retire and hes only 50. Klieman was making 3-4 times that at K-State.CalgaryCat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 03, 2025 11:13 amMust be nice to retire at 58. Personally, I'm a lot more impressed with guys getting paid NOT to coach, like Brian Kelly ($55m and he got away with negligent homicide at practice) Jonathan Stewart (something like $30m) Stoops at Kentucky (another $30 million) and probably a lot more that aren't at the top of my mind.
Someone should do a total of how much fired college coaches are going to make this year.

You missed the big one - Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M. They paid him $77 million to go awayonceacat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 03, 2025 11:37 pmVigen has made more than enough to retire and hes only 50. Pulled this from Ross Dellenger on Twitter, posted on Tuesday this week. Top 15 fired coaches buyouts this year are up to $228 million, breaking the previous mark by a cool 100 million. And he's accounting for Franklin's offset with VT too or it would be more:onceacat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 03, 2025 11:37 pmVigen has made more than enough to retire and hes only 50. And they say all these player NIL deals aren't sustainable. I'd like to see all these schools quit recycling these head coaches every couple of years. Start looking for fresh, young talent.D-Wreck wrote: ↑Thu Dec 04, 2025 8:40 amPulled this from Ross Dellenger on Twitter, posted on Tuesday this week. Re: Vigen is staying at MSU!
Why do these huge buyouts? Where did that start? I get the large salaries, but if you don't win or have program where boosters want you will be gone. That big salary should offset that. One big market crash and this model is done.

Is anyone a little concerned that Vigen could become part of the search for Penn St?

No. They didn't spend all that money to get rid of a coach that was very good but couldn't beat elite teams for an FCS coach that hasn't been able to beat the elite team of his own division.
There's a chance Vigen could become part of the search of the team that has to replace the coach that leaves to replace the coach that leaves another school to become the coach of Penn State though.
Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

Good point. It might be tempting for him to move up to a MW or MAC equivalent if one becomes available. I hope not...coloradocat wrote: ↑Thu Dec 04, 2025 11:41 amNo. They didn't spend all that money to get rid of a coach that was very good but couldn't beat elite teams for an FCS coach that hasn't been able to beat the elite team of his own division.

Not really, I feel like the statement he and MSU put out on social media is pretty unequivocal and referenced more than just the Oregon State rumors that were going around at the time.

Seems like in todays version of college football things can change quickly. My thought is not many teams will pass the opportunity to go after such a quality coach.

That statement was as unspecific as they could make it for a reason. Nothing about it was unequivocal.

Re: Vigen is staying at MSU!
I think college coaches are still somewhat regional, so it would be odd for a NE team to go after a small school western coach. They simply don't have the recruiting or coaching relationships in that part of the country.
If they were a nationally known "celebrity" type coach, then I could see it. But not a rising coach.

True, But we just saw Sumrall go from Tulane to Florida. That’s a big jump and New Orleans to Gainesville isn’t one state away. I’ve seen less crazy things happen. I wouldn’t be surprised if we start hearing rumors about Vigen and Penn State.SonomaCat wrote: ↑Thu Dec 04, 2025 12:09 pmI think college coaches are still somewhat regional, so it would be odd for a NE team to go after a small school western coach. To me, it's pretty clear reading that statement that he's not going to leave this off-season. I suppose we'll see whether that is proven right or if I'm dead wrong.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Dec 04, 2025 12:03 pmThat statement was as unspecific as they could make it for a reason. Regionality is applicable below the P4 level but if you're at a big school you should have the resources to recruit nationally without a problem.catzrule1991 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 04, 2025 12:19 pmTrue, But we just saw Sumrall go from Tulane to Florida.
