I watched a documentary many years ago about a lady that was hired to individually tailor the jerseys of the Denver Broncos to remove any excess or loose material so that it would be less to grab onto and make it harder to tackle them.

Depends on if he's getting them because the front seven is getting blown out or missing tackles, as you're alluding to, or if he's really athletic and covering a lot of field to get to balls, as Vigen said.

UNC is third in scoring defense and yards allowed per play. Fourth in yards allowed per game and first in pass defense both yards per game and efficiency.

Most tackles are going to come in the run game, and they’re putrid there. I think a lot of the reason their passing defense looks decent is because if teams can run the ball, they will.
