Take a Chance
I hope we get to see some more from Chance Wilson, He showed last week as he has before that he has that X-factor and needs to be on the field one way or another. Hopefully the coaches scheme up something for him at least here or there, I also believe he should be the back up, Duchein (sp?) is too young and needs more time to develop his reads. He throws a nice ball, but he also threw a pick into double coverage.

Re: Take a Chance
It's possible we will see him more. There was a play during the Mercyhurst game where he was on the field the same time as Lamson. Looked like they were running some kind of reverse pass with Wilson, but the play got blown dead because of a penalty.luckyirishguy25 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 8:35 amI hope we get to see some more from Chance Wilson, He showed last week as he has before that he has that X-factor and needs to be on the field one way or another. Re: Take a Chance
Ducheine tries to stay in and pass or hand off. Wilson is more willing to pull. Wilson got reps last year so has more game experience. He does have speed, not sure yet it is an x factor. Maybe some wildcat. Coaches must see something in practice to have the order they do.luckyirishguy25 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 8:35 amI hope we get to see some more from Chance Wilson, He showed last week as he has before that he has that X-factor and needs to be on the field one way or another. This is probably exactly what they saw. They want a backup that can play QB, not running QB.tetoncat wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 8:48 amDucheine tries to stay in and pass or hand off. Re: Take a Chance
I was told that one of the knocks on Wilson last year was that he wasn't pulling. Take that with a grain of salt, but when I'd watch him play he almost always handed off. It was late in games and he was just in to mop up, but I heard the coaches were urging to keep the ball. I think they really wanted to see what he could do in a game if he did. So, perhaps the TD run he had was a bit of an epiphany for him.coloradocat wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 9:08 amThis is probably exactly what they saw. I don't see the coaches making a move to work this into the gameplan anytime soon. I think they're still trying to get the new offense fine-tuned. I agree with the idea, just don't know about the timing. Maybe look at back at Sterbick's time at other schools and see if this was a thing. I'm not saying that if he didn't do it elsewhere that he won't do it as I think most coaches are more than willing to adapt to their players' skill sets if it's going to spark something within the offense, which his running threat could do for the run game.

So you think they want somebody who ignores the correct read to keep the ball, because that’s what playing QB is?coloradocat wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 9:08 amThis is probably exactly what they saw. Duchien presumably got the job because of his passing abilities, but he made two terrible predetermined reads. One went for a turnover, the other easily could have been a pick 6. Hopefully a learning moment for the young lad.

Re: Take a Chance
I’m on the record earlier this year saying they need to find a way to keep Wilson on the field. He has great straight line speed and if he makes his mind, makes a good strong, single cut. He lacks the quickness of Mellot.tetoncat wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 8:48 amDucheine tries to stay in and pass or hand off. Wilson is more willing to pull. Being third in the competition at quarterback may have put a chip on his shoulder, which may be a motivator. He lacked physical aggression last year in his back up play but may have matured into that mindset. He’s got a great upside.
Duchein needs reps in the opportunity to make some confidence making plays.

Re: Take a Chance
On the latest episode I proposed a diamond formation with Lamson under center, Jones, Wilson and Frokjer. Discuss.

Oh yes! You could run, pass, punt, or kick out of that formation!

Frokjer is one of the best athletes on the team. He was one of the best hoop players in Utah last year. Averaged 16 and 7. He's currently a +2 handicap golfer. Was the No. 1 for the last 3 years at his school on the golf team. Took second in the javelin at the state track meet and was all-state in football. He played quarterback his sophomore year, then moved to WR and safety. Kicked a 58-yard FG in high school and had at least one other over 50 yards. Runs the 100m in the mid-11s.

In a punter's build. I'm with Vigen, stick to kicking the ball. Maybe try out for T&F in the spring if he's bored.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 2:10 pmFrokjer is one of the best athletes on the team. He was one of the best hoop players in Utah last year. Yeah, he's definitely slight of build. But I'm glad they got that fake on film, maybe it will slow down the bullrush by defenses trying to block FG attempts.coloradocat wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 3:12 pmIn a punter's build. Definitely loved the play. Not necessary at all in the circumstances but as you say, now it's on film.grizzh8r wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 6:20 pmYeah, he's definitely slight of build. Re: Take a Chance
Vigen missed on Chance last year too. He had Reed #2 and Wilson #3. But, game film eventually put Wilson #2. That could happen again.
