Looks like some people need to back the ****** up off the ledge. SDSU was as they are always bigger faster and stronger than we are, it just is what it is. We put up a helluva fight being as outgunned as we were. We're not going to win the natty, but neither is anyone not named XDSU. We're just not there.

A lot of these posts are ridiculous. Vigen is a good coach who has dominated the in state recruiting battle, consistently brought in high level talent, and has led us to two natty appearances. It’s ridiculous to think we’d fire him. However, it’s also fair to say that we have a huge DSU problem. We cannot beat those guys. We lose every close game against them. I’m so sick and tired of the woulda, coulda, shoulda of these games. We lost. We’re not at their level until we actually WIN against them. And I’m sick and tired of losing these close games to the DSUs where we get out executed when it matters. But that’s a pretty good problem to have. 15 years ago, we would KILL to be a tier in our own right below the NDSUs and SDSUs of the world. So it’s not all sunshine and rainbows, but it’s not all storm clouds and sadness either.
Perfectly stated. Vigen is a godsend and we should all be grateful. Doesn't mean we can't be totally disapointed by this gigantic DSU monkey we cannot get off our back. We had too many mistakes tonight but can be fixed.

Sweet Jeezus you buffoon. Lay off the bottle.

Theres not a team on the schedule that will challenge the Bobcats until the Brawl.

Obvious first round bye, home field for 2nd round & the Quarters. Possible home field for the semis if NDSU or SDSU drop a game.

Do you not watch college football?
Now I'm a buffoon? Cool. I was waiting for more childish name-calling.

Again, sorry to burst your bubble, but we don't make it past the quarters this year...if that.
If you think that the Cats are going to struggle over the next 8 games & lose a home playoff game to a CAA or SoCon team? Yes, you are a buffoon.

LOL, did you somehow miss what happened when William and Mary came here a few years back?

This is a SMH level of childishness & disconnect from reality. Cats will win a home QF game by 20 or 30. The only 3 teams that are going to challenge the cats this year are the gris, the bizen, and the wabbits.

If SDSU was bigger & faster, how did the Cats D hold them to 1 of 15 on 3rd and to 2.7 ypc?

Cats lost this by running Lamson 22 times & by sucking it up on the punt team.

Oh great another Vigen apologist. How many losses against the dsu and gris will be enough for you to say show him the door?
Vigen is, I believe, 47-12. I sure am an apologist.
You didn’t answer the question. How many more times do you want to lose to the gris and dsu schools?

You can flaunt his record all you want but how many of those victories come against equally matched programs and rosters?
We barely lost to SDSU with a new QB. You haven’t been a Cats fan for long if you haven’t learned how to deal with disappointment.
SDSU also has a new QB, not to mention half of their team…

And we've already lost one of them. The second, NDSU, is a given (and somebody should check Vigen's bank account after the game), and the gris? That's the only game that matters to me anymore. Sadly, Vigen doesn't really seem that riled up to win that one either.

Wait, you actually think he's being paid to lose to NDSU?

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

And they came in and won a tough game. Which is what you would expect a Top 5 program to do. I thought the Cats would win this walking away, but thats why you play the game.

It doesn't mean the Cats are going to struggle to make the playoffs or that Vigen is a terrible coach.

Its entirely possible that the Cats end the season as ONLY the 3rd best team in the country.

3 of 5 starters back on the OL, plus an all conference transfer from SFA. Mason is in his 5th year in the program and played a fair amount last year at QB. They brought back a bunch of guys with tons of snaps played on D and bolstered their depth with transfers.

Accepting disappointment cause “they’re the cats” is ridiculous. There is no reason to not raise standards when the talent and money is being put into the program. It’s one thing for Cliff or Cramer to struggle against more well funded teams. However Vigen has better rosters, better facilities and a larger school. Seems like now is the time to raise expectations and take action to meet the higher expectations.

Nothing wrong with raising the standards. Advocating for lower or lowering standards is embarrassing. Have some pride. Have some goals. “They’re not as bad as the cats have been in the past” is not a goal and it’s not worth saying out loud.
Man up and learn to deal with disappointment. Your inability to control yourself is childish. When we end up deep in the playoffs I hope you don’t pretend to be back on the bandwagon.
I’ll never be a Vigen supporter. Best that will happen is I say nothing. The first disappointment is a fact of life but doing nothing and accepting the second disappointment with no intention of correction or search for how to rectify it is childish. Saying this is the second disappointment isn’t childish, it’s delusional. Vigen consistently disappoints against equal competition.

Want to give him until 2035 to beat a dsu?
Phil Jackson had a 70% win record & he had at least 4 of the top 10 players to ever play BB on his teams.

Bill Belicheck had a 77% win rate with Tom Brady

Dean Smith had a 77% win rate.

Nick Saban had an 80% win rate.

Nick Saban is the only one in that group with a better W-L than Vigen.
Jeesus this is the dumbest defense I've ever seen. Let's compare a guy who has gotten his a$$ handed to him every year by DSUs while he racks up wins against the sisters of the poor to some of the guys that have won the most titles in history. I have no doubt we will win out til Missoula and the somehow inexplicably play like a$$ again and lose by 20 to a team we have no business losing to. Vigen can't get his guys ready for the biggest games. His OCs don't seem to know how to move the ball unless we have a major advantage on the OL. They're cocky enough to believe we can move the entire line around right before our two toughest opponents and it will somehow work out. Our DCs seem to like to call 50% really good plays but they suddenly revert to letting guys run wide open. Made an exceedingly average qb look great tonight by consistently giving wide open looks on their biggest drives. Don't even get me started on special teams.

Vigen is a fine coach and he'll win lots of games but he's never going to win the one that really matters.

Totally reasonable to be disappointed that Vigen can't get over the hump to 50-50 with the DSUs. But the posters here acting like hes somehow the second coming of Earl is pretty bad.

NDSU had an offensive lineman go in the first round and their QB got drafted as a QB while MSU's best player was drafted in the 6th round as a WR despite having played the wrong position in college ball for 4 seasons.

Better team? I'd say pretty evenly matched.

Vigen has had two of the greatest players in MSU history and a team loaded with guys that have made a decent run at the NFL. He will undoubtedly be #1 in wins when he's done here but as of right now, he has proven he will not win the biggest games against the best teams.

You think that Phil Jackson & Bill Belichek didn't rack up wins against the little sisters of the poor?

Do you even watch sports?

Phil Jackson had 4 (FOUR) top 10 players and Belicheck had the best QB of all time.

I wonder what Vigen would do if he had the FCS equivalent of Tom Brady or Shaq or MJ or Kobe.

Totally reasonable to be disappointed that Vigen can't get over the hump to 50-50 with the DSUs. But the posters here acting like hes somehow the second coming of Earl is pretty bad.
Vigen has had two of the greatest players in MSU history and a team loaded with guys that have made a decent run at the NFL. He will undoubtedly be #1 in wins when he's done here but as of right now, he has proven he will not win the biggest games against the best teams.
Did he beat SHSU on the road in the playoffs? How about SDSU in the semis?

This one was a bummer, and my wwiz buds did not waste time in texting me in their joy. That actually raised my spirits in all of this as I hope they keep underestimating the Cats, and conflate their baked cupcakes.

NDSU alum. Former coach at NDSU. Can't seem to beat them despite having a better team. You do the math.
Comical. This guy is searching for his tin foil hat.
Prove me wrong.

When he beats NDSU, I'll eat my words. I plan on going hungry.

Excellent post. The sky is not falling guys. We knew there would be a drop off from last year. The Cats played two very tough opponents for their first 2 games. Sure it sucks to start 0-2 but this game went 2OT, they didn't lay down and die. Too many mistakes, by both teams really. Came up about 10" short and it bites, hard. But I think it's safe to say that the Bobcat players, and coaches, learned alot more from these 2 games that should pay dividends as the season rolls on than the dark pink team did from their bye and game against a high school team tonight. Not that it's about them, but iron sharpens iron. And it's cliche, but you learn more from losing than you do from winning. Take a breath. Have some faith. There's alot of season left.

Let's ignore how incredibly overrated SHSU was that year and the fact SDSU was like 3 road games into the playoffs AND the aforementioned greatest stack of talent we've ever seen at MSU AND that we got roflstomped in the championship and thats still a better argument than comparing his W/L to Bill Belicheck.
