Re: Grok’s unofficial Montana State vs Oregon gameday thread
I predicted 51 to 10, so was not too far off..... but of course I was hoping we'd come out with a more competitive showing that what we saw today. That said, I saw some good things and a lot of things that can be cleaned up. Expecting a good season with a deep playoff run. Next weekend is obviously critical... thank God we play at home. I watched several FCS games today. SDSU looked good, but I still think we beat them in Gold Rush. Every FCS team would have been destroyed by the Ducks today, except one. Yes, I'm jealous\envious of what NDSU has... zero chance NDSU would have lost to Oregon by 46 points today.

Re: Grok’s unofficial Montana State vs Oregon gameday thread
I've never seen an opposing fanbase so unbothered. I suppose we've been on the opposite side of a lot of blowouts the past few seasons, so this was humbling. It's just frustrating that we came out looking like we haven't been practicing. A misalignment on a punt? Isn't it pretty much line the same way every time all fall camp? That was irritating. Our cornerback's tacking was atrocious-they looked lost, but are redshirt freshmen so I'm sure they'll get better. SDSU's receivers are no joke so they better grow up fast. Never causing them to punt-not even once was really disheartening.
Our quarterback is slow. We've been spoiled with a lot of speed at that position with Mellott, Chambers, Andersen, etc. Lamson is not those guys. Credit to him not throwing an interception.
Autzen is pretty nice. Good site lines and all that. It wasn't very loud, but that because they were so unbothered. I'm sure it can be quite loud when they need to be.

It's hot in missoula and he's got swing shift all weekend. makes him feel better to come over here and tell us all about how we got our asses kicked today by Oregon. Thanks old gris for schooling us up on how bad the Cats looked today, the comparative scores, etc. We had no idea, thought we were right in the game all day.ECBobcat wrote: ↑Sat Aug 30, 2025 10:18 pmWhy do you care?OldGriz wrote: ↑Sat Aug 30, 2025 10:12 pm
This was expected? Not according to the “Oregon Prediction Thread” here on the Bobcat Nation site. Nobody predicted this 59-13 boat race. Idaho held Oregon to 24 points. MSU allowed that plus another 35. The Vegas spread was only 29 points. At halftime, #11 Arizona State leads NAU by just 11 points. North Dakota almost beat #17 Kansas State tonight and lost it only in the final 30 seconds. To say the game in Eugene went as expected just isn’t true.
And congrats on that huge program defining win against that juggernaut husky squad! your stadium is unbelievable too.

Re: Grok’s unofficial Montana State vs Oregon gameday thread
This wasn’t very surprising. It’s just the difference in talent. Just for a little perspective, please consider that at the FCS level Marcus Wehr was a dominant player. He didn’t even get a look at the NFL. Those guys from Oregon are not just NFL caliber players, they will eventually be really good NFL players. The difference in talent is huge.
Really happy with what I saw from Lamson. Best passing QB we’ve had in a while. Saw somebody call him slow, which is pretty laughable. He’s not Tommy, but he’s not slow either.
Hard to take too much from the run game, they killed our OL. Thought the secondary did decent all things considered. Tackling wasn’t as bad as some are saying, more of a strength and them just being better issue than anything else.
Sucks to lose like that, but Oregon is very good. I still think we’re a very good FCS team. Gold Rush should be fun.

Why would NDSU have given Oregon a better game? I dunno... take your pick. Better players than us because they're able to pay them more (Mainly linemen) way more than us, a true belief that they can compete with any team in the country, culture and attitude, etc. I'm pretty sure they're winning record against FBS teams over the last decade is well over 50%.. Don't get me wrong, Oregon would have beat them yesterday, just not by 46 points. I watched parts of all the Dakota games yesterday and obviously NDSU is the clear cut best, then UND, then SDSU, then USD. These are all just my opinions of course.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 30, 2025 10:40 pmWhy?catatac wrote: ↑Sat Aug 30, 2025 10:32 pmI predicted 51 to 10, so was not too far off..... but of course I was hoping we'd come out with a more competitive showing that what we saw today. Regrettably I agree that NDSU doesn’t lose to any team by 46 points.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

I agree with everything you posted here BB with the exception above. I'm not an X's and O's expert but I'm pretty sure there is a LOT more to the punting unit than that. I watched a break-down of a punting unit once at this level and it was actually pretty complex in terms of where players line up, post snap assignments, etc. When I was in high school, we pretty much just all picked our targets and went one on one. Still not acceptable though, that the Cats committed so many penalties in a game like this were there was zero margin for error.

That's cool and all, and don't take this personally, but I don't think you have the acumen to make these statements with any confidence, especially just one game into the season. I appreciate that it's just your opinion, but I just don't think you know NDSU and SDSU well enough. I'm no expert myself, but I watched the NDSU and SDSU games and I didn't see anything they did against the two FCS teams, low-level FCS in NDSU's case, that made me think they'd compete with any team in the country.catatac wrote: ↑Sun Aug 31, 2025 12:31 pmWhy would NDSU have given Oregon a better game? Atrocious is a bit strong I think. Definitely some things to clean up, but not atrocious.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Sat Aug 30, 2025 11:04 pmI've never seen an opposing fanbase so unbothered. Lamson is slow? I’m sorry, but I’m genuinely curious if you watch much football outside of MSU. While certainly not as fast as Tommy or Troy, if those are your standards, you’re looking to be disappointed. Lamson is far from slow.
Finally, your post is riddled with dissatisfaction. I get it. We got creamed. But what were you expecting? A competitive game? That was never in the cards. Oregon isn’t a middling MWC school. They’re a legit title contender. They’re several levels of athleticism, skill, and coaching above us. That’s not excusing anything, it’s just the reality of the situation.

Re: Grok’s unofficial Montana State vs Oregon gameday thread
Couple clarifications on your post. First off, I don't think I said anything about SDSU being able to compete against anyone in the country, in fact I said NDSU looks like the #1 team in my view, then UND, then SDSU, then USD... and my post was only ranking the Dakota schools. Secondly, I never said NDSU could compete with anyone in the country, I said they probably had that type of attitude though, which is one of the reasons they win so often, and usually beat the FBS teams they play too.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 31, 2025 1:36 pmThat's cool and all, and don't take this personally, but I don't think you have the acumen to make these statements with any confidence, especially just one game into the season. All good though, I agree I don't have the acumen or expertise to confidently say I know how all the best teams stack up against each other, especially after one game. I will predict though, for the record, after one game in... NDSU will probably lose one game regular season (Either at SDSU or at UND), get the #1 seed, and will win it all again in Nashville. I really, really hope I'm wrong.

I think this is the reality now. I read that Oregon has around $23 million in NIL each season, and some of their top players are transfers from other Power 4 programs. With that kind of money, they can buy talent year after year. Upsets will still happen occasionally, but they’re going to be much more rare these days.

The $23 million is just from the athletic department. The amount of third party money from Phil Knight, Nike and whoever else, is literally unlimited. The Butcher wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 2:39 pmI think this is the reality now. Oregon native starters on offense (0) and defense (1) for the Ducks. In a state of over 4 million people, only one is good enough to start. Let that sink in.The Butcher wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 2:39 pmI think this is the reality now.
