Is that normal for rookies to work out with players from other teams?

Okay. But at the Vikings facility? I mean it's great he's getting some help. I just wasn't aware that type of thing happened.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 7:15 pmSherels is retired.

I'm a little surprised too, as the CBA for the NFL Players Union restricts the amount of time that players can spend during the off-season working at their own team's facility. Perhaps going to another team's facility is a loophole around these rules as long as the second team is ok with it.nanacat wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 7:45 pmOkay. But at the Vikings facility? Hmmm maybe so. It just seemed odd to me. But I hope Tommy gets all the help he can to make the team!MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 8:40 pmI'm a little surprised too, as the CBA for the NFL Players Union restricts the amount of time that players can spend during the off-season working at their own team's facility. probably trying to stop the "team" from forcing young players to prove themselves for 20 weeks before camp starts. the season is long enough.MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 8:40 pmI'm a little surprised too, as the CBA for the NFL Players Union restricts the amount of time that players can spend during the off-season working at their own team's facility. Too bad Tommy didn't get the number 10 (X) jersey. From Project X to the X Factor.

When does Tommy get mentioned? I gave it two minutes out of the 25 and it was just the usual coachspeak about people wanting to be on the field.CatAttack22 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 10, 2025 2:07 pm

Man, checking out signed Tommy Mellott football cards on Ebay and quite a few of them are already being bid up hundreds of dollars, highest is now $280. Crazy.

Reporter: coach your from Montana what do you think about Tommy.
Coach: I don’t know him, aside from the tape on him. He’s fast, as long as he’s fast, or if any player is fast and works hard, I can teach them the rest.
He didn’t seem to want to talk about one single player, but, wanted to address the group as a whole. However, every quality he mentioned that you can’t coach in a player and that he wants in a player was the embodiment of Tommy.

Re: Tommy to the Raiders
From the bits of OTA's and minicamp I see on youtube, they don't have Mellott catching passes anymore. They did at first but not lately. He stands with the receivers but isn't participating. He's one of several guys catching punts and probably playing defensive special teams, but it seems they've written him off as a receiver this year. Granted, I'm going off a handful of youtube videos over the past couple weeks, but they should be working him into drills if they're serious about him playing WR this year. So maybe this year will be special teams, including some gadget plays in punt formation. I think he makes a 53-man squad somewhere, because it's likely that another team grabs him if the Raiders try to put him on the practice squad.
Chip Kelly seems comfortable with Kyle Philips as a slot player and punt returner. Philips played for Kelly at UCLA and the Raiders signed him two weeks after Chip was hired. I think Tommy's talent will shine over the course of a season, but can only imagine the learning curve he's on right now. Man, am I following the Raiders closely now...

Re: Tommy to the Raiders
Not sure how many WR's the Raiders will carry. If it is only six Tommy will have a hard time fitting into that group. The best bet is special teams. I think they will find a spot on the active roster. If they put him on the practice squad another team will grab him. The Vikings would be a good fit. They don't have 6 good WR's and Addison will be suspended for anywhere from 4-8 games.SCVBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 12:23 amFrom the bits of OTA's and minicamp I see on youtube, they don't have Mellott catching passes anymore. I too have been looking for Tommy on videos posted and am not seeing him as much. I sure hope they keep him and find a spot to use him. All the kudos right now are focused on Jeanty and Thornton, and Bech too. Haven't seen much on Miller either lately. I'm sure the learning curve is tremendous.SCVBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 12:23 amFrom the bits of OTA's and minicamp I see on youtube, they don't have Mellott catching passes anymore. Re: Tommy to the Raiders
Chip Kelly bringing in his guy from UCLA may make it difficult for Tommy to win the kick/punt return job. He’s going to have to excel as a gunner on punt team IMO to make the 53 as I see it. He can hit and would have been all-time great MSU safety had QB not worked out. Practice squad is close to a lock if he gets cuts, though. Too many raw skills and athleticism to not keep for the season and develop.nanacat wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 8:53 amI too have been looking for Tommy on videos posted and am not seeing him as much. Cam Miller is going to have to have the fall camp of a lifetime to make the practice squad. Of the two, Tommy seems the most likely to actually play games that matter for LV in the future.
Also remember that most of my fellow Raider fans want videos of the top draft picks and veterans in those shorts posts, so not seeing 19 on video doesn’t mean he isn’t in the pass catching drills.
