It's certainly a game-changing gift but I doubt it's THE gift that's being rumored/discussed here.

Maybe the article just forgot to mention the live bobcat they are donating that will sit on the sidelines during home games.

Any live bobcat on the sidelines has to be trained to run out on the field and recover the tee after the kickoff and return it.

A friend of a friend who heard a former coach talk about a rumor he heard on an internet fan board that referenced a part time reporter in another state that gave vague references to a gift, makes me think the possibility exists that this could maybe be true.

The rumor started with multiple sources. None of them has come forward to say that it's unfounded. Which begs the question: other than the passing of time (6.5 months), what evidence is there that it isn't happening?

Leon said they are announcing an updated facilities master plan this summer. IF there has been a big donation that will rebuild the stadium or something of that magnitude, it would be an appropriate time to announce that.

Don’t know if it is true or not, I have always thought it wasn’t and stated that.It had that Peter Fields vibe about the stadium expansion release that was nothing but a pipe dream back then. I do find it concerning how things work now, it takes like two people online to say something and then it magically becomes fact.it’s ridiculous and in the end the people look stupid or desperate for affirmation to the logical person, but to the masses on social media, it is just passed along as “oh well”. Social media is the worst.

I’m looking forward to seeing that. Hard to believe that we’re what, 7-8 years into that 20 year plan already?

What exactly did the multiple sources say or write? How specific were these sources to what the gift would be? Have the sources mentioned the gift more than once or just the one time? Has anyone at MSU even hinted at a big gift?

That's not how rumors work. They aren't assumed to be true until the people that start them admit otherwise. It's up to the people pushing the rumor to provide evidence, not up to us to prove that something made up isn't true.

I have no doubt that MSU is working their butts off all the time to continue to fundraise for continued facility improvements, so I still think there's at least some truth to this rumor. The part of it that always sounded sketchy to me was the timing, that an announcement was going to be coming right after the season ended. Of course, one person says that, the rumor catches on, everyone gets their hopes up and the only possible result is disappointment when it doesn't happen right away.
