Cat - Griz WBB

Post by Catfanatic84 » Tue Feb 18, 2025 9:25 am

Cats have a 17 game winning streak on the line. A 1 point win in Missoula last month....I think this time will be different. Big loud crowd will un-nerve the Griz and I see the Cats winning #18 in a row.

Looks like the weather is going to be conducive to making the drive to Bozeman this weekend for the game. Looking forward to seeing the team in person, hopefully there's a BIG crowd on hand Saturday afternoon. I'll be rooting for Idaho to upset NAU on Thursday which would give the Bobcats a chance to clinch the #1 seed and share of the Big Sky regular season championship with a win.

Nothing better than getting to drop the balloons and confetti on a Big Sky Conference Championship with the gris fans and team having to watch. Go Idaho and Go Cats!

Dang that would be fun. Love to see the humiliation on the faces of the gris faithful. Go Vandals!

It's also nice to get the banner and the #1 seed secured early so it's not a distraction closing out the season. Still plenty of motivation to keep winning to maximize seed potential. (Looking at you, #12).

Sure would like to see the Brick with over 4000 fans on Saturday for the ladies. They need and deserve the support.

Tell you what, everybody invite a friend or neighbor family or work associate. I’ve got some folks coming that have never seen the ladies play so they are in for a treat. Expanding the fan base!!!

Anyone have any idea what the record crowd for a women's game is at the Brick? I have a feeling it might happen Saturday.

I just looked it up and answered my own question. The inaugural "school day" game with Wyoming in the 2017-18 season had 6000 in attendance. I was there. It was incredibly loud with all of the screaming kids. That place can really be loud when it is full. That same year we had 4000 for the Cat-Griz game. I would be shocked if we don't have at least 4000 for the game Saturday. Given how good this year's team is, we really ought to have 5000 there.

Didn't we have like 38 or 3900 for NAU?

It's officially game week against the Poooor grizzlies. We barely beat them in January. They had a chance to win on a tip in at the end. I was there sitting behind the hoop and it happened right in front of me so it was cool going from oh no to yes! 20 feet from the play.

Barth Vader(Dani Barth)- how is she holding up? Went back to starting minutes Saturday. Definately could tell they missed her when she was out with her ankle issue. She had been in a boot a previous game or two. Sr. 7.8 points to go with 6.3 rebounds per game. 7 games in double figures this year. Was out a couple games and limited a game. They definitely weren't the same team without her.

Tyler McCC..T McC's(McCliment-Call)-she can hit the 3 when she's hot. She seems kind of streaky but shoots the 3 when she's hitting. Some griz fans think how she goes, the team goes. Grad student. The griz care so much about her they don't even list stats for her on their website. Espn has her at 9.1 points per game and 3.6 rebounds. 3.9% from 3.

Root Beer...get it? Because its A&W(Avery Waddington)-true freshman. Can play. High scorer the last time we played them earlier this year in Missoula. Possible Big Sky freshman of the year if not won by our own Taylee Chirrick.(TC wins it based on all the steals i think) Had a chance at the rim to beat us but instead of tipping it in she came back down and tried to shoot flat footed while stepping back with a Ella? in her face. 8.8 points per game with 12 in double figures with most coming in the 2nd half of the season which tells you they've started to feed her the ball and lean on her more. 1 game over 20. 46 assists. 25 steals. Shoots 36.6 from 3. 5.8 rebounds per game. She's a good player.

Iz za griz gonzza looze? Yez zey Izzzz-abella Zingaro-was injured. Was starting. When Barth was out she played a lot more. Idaho State started to double and triple her in the second half and she struggled after that. She was consistently getting the ball taken away. Not getting back on defense. Not sure if it was lack of effort or just tired. She didn't play much the last part of the game. Then their game Saturday she didn't start and played far fewer minutes that she had been averaging. Punishment for lack of effort the prior game or just making the team better with a different lineup in? Or still tired? Junior. She has some size to throw around in the paint. Averages a whopping 75% from 3pt land....on 4 attempts. For being in the paint only averages 3.3 rebounds per game. 8 blocks. 8.1 points per game with 7 in double figures and 2 above 20. 7 games she scored less than 5. 4 games she scored 5.

Mack and Cheese(Mack/Mackendra Konig) the point guard. Top 100 player her senior year of high school. A year older than Natalie Picton and they graduated not far from each other. Reading her recruiting story it sounds like her and Brian "the Bodyslammer" Holsinger were close. She took a leave of absence from the team after he was put on administrative leave. Originally I assumed it was because of being traumatized by watching her head coach body slam an assistant coach and a trainer, but after reading the recruiting article I wonder if it was because he was the reason she was there? I know absolutely nothing but wonder if she transfers after the season. She makes everything happen. Distributes. Brings the ball down the court. I think their best player. Junior. Shooting just 22% from 3 this year. Averages 10.3 points per game with 12 in double figures and 2 games scoring more than 20. 116 assists on the year. 1.8 rebounds per game.

MJ "WE DONT TALK ABOUT" Bruno!!(wouldn't that be awesome if when she shoots free throws, the entire band/student section/crowd breaks into song...."we don't talk about Bruno no no no". It's from the Disney movie Encanto. Or the PA should play it @SACCAT lol

Sr that averages 2.8 rebounds per game to go with 6.1 pts per game. 5 games in double figures. I think their best on ball lock down defender. 17 steals to go with 34 assists. 37% 3 point shooter.

Aby "don't call me Franz" Shubert- soph averages 5.4 and 1.1 with 3 games in double figures. 37% from 3. Looks to have games with starter minutes up until the game with us then there are no updates. Injured?

Macy "say Cheese(head)" Donarski-averages 2.4 per game to go with 1.1 rebounds. Has 37 assists for the year. RS FR. McDonald's all American from the land of cheese in high school. Had starter minutes only against Weber in Missoula.

"Honest Abe"(Adria) Lincoln-averages 5.1 points per game with 5 in double figures though mostly towards the first half of the season. 2.3 rebounds per game but does shoot 41.7% from 3 on 25 attempts this year.

Alex "I make a mean Pierogi" Pirog- averages 4.9 per game with 3 in double figures. 3.7 rebounds per game. Junior.

Dreya "should we call her the Melstone cowgirl?" Wacker. RS fr. Averages 2pts and 1.3 rebounds per game. Mostly single digit minutes but has 3 above 15. I'm guessing someone was in foul trouble.

What stands out to me is that as much as griz fans would love to believe, Nate doesn't have tons to work with off the bench. Bruno, Konig, Dani, AW and McCliment-Call make a good starting 5. IZ can come off the bench, though they have her start alot. When you compare last year's team to this year they lost ALOT. Between Espenmiller-Mcgraw, Marxen, and Gfeller they lost 3 players averages double figures and this year Konig is the only one that averages double figures. McCliment-Call almost averages doubles. Both the Huard sister left, not that they scored much, but the one was only a freshman. So i guess to judge Nate on how the team has played with him as coach is not quite fair. That team from last year and this one are not the same at all.

Not hardly. Alex Pirog came in as a true freshman out of Highlands Ranch High School in Colorado.

You're right. In scanning the summary on her I misread where it said 5 for 5 against the Orediggers and my quick scan my brain must've made me think for the orediggers. My bad.

Other than that how did I do on my analysis?

I'm not the PA announcer.. Also I am not calling the Game on TV (though they are using a Different Play-by-Play guy than last time... It is Ben Creighton doing the Play-by-play. He also does the TV games for MSU)

Bummer that SACCAT won't be doing the PxP for the lady's game but Ben should be able to do a good job. Now the big question is, who will be his color commentator? Ty Gregorak could have a field day with Roberts Montana Ben! and his head would explode with SACO Montana if Teagan Erickson got in the game.

I’d love to hear Kola Bad Bear do the Cat-gris game. Use Gregorak for the halftime show.
