The Next Chapter

Post by tdub » Wed Jan 08, 2025 9:21 am

There is no doubt about how amazing this past season was. One of the most epic seasons in MSU history. The next chapter now begins. Lots can change between now and kickoff in Oregon, but this next chapter looks very solid again, and maybe great again if a some key positions rise up.

Looking ahead to the 2025 schedule, there’s only a couple of games in my opinion that have question marks now. The home schedule looks improved from a fan’s perspective. There is a road to Nashville to be had, and I believe 4 key games will determine if these next Cats can play next January.

- South Dakota State (Home): MUCH more winnable game than it was a few weeks ago.
- NAU (Away): This road trip almost always in very difficult.
- ISU (Home): I think this program is on the rise, but not enough to win at Bobcat Stadium
- UM (Away): Always a huge question mark, with the unknown quality of team they have and recent road woes for the Cats in that stadium.

Losing to Oregon is probably a given, but outside of that, this team is primed again for a heckuva run.

Probably all comes down to if we can find a QB that can play consistently. I have no doubt we will be able to run the ball to some degree and will have a fairly solid defense.

Definitely. QB is the question and expecting a young guy to come in and dominate is asking a lot. Luckily those two strengths you mentioned will take pressure off whoever wins the job.

I think our defense will be good but it takes a dominant defense to carry a game manager QB. Unfortunately to make a Natty run I think we will need a more dynamic QB. We will see if we luck out and find one.

Is Chance a young guy anymore? He's been here for 2 whole seasons, and he did get some playing experience this year. I don't think it's crazy to think he takes the job and runs with it.

We have some pretty good history of guys starting as freshman (Denarious, Dakota, Tommy) and doing well.

If we end up with another Denarius, Dakota, Tommy then I’m sure we will do well. That’s expecting a lot.

Is it though? Shouldn't that be the expectation from a coaching staff in recruiting?

Yes it is. I don’t think expecting the staff to recruit an all time great player is reasonable. You hope for it but it is expecting a lot. You listed guys who were amazing and not the norm. Maybe we hit the lottery but great QBs are hard to find.

Yeah, great way, I am confident for next quarterback for themselves. This is not like the Choate years where getting a quarter was our Achilles’ heel.

I think the amount of actual meaningful game experience Wilson got this year will pay huge dividends next year, if he is in fact the guy. Reed has experience too. It’s not like the QB cupboard is bare …

I'm somewhat expecting Reed to go elsewhere after he got jumped on the depth chart, but we'll see.
