It sounds like the folks in the neighborhood handled the situation perfectly. They acted in an assertive, but reasonable manner, and let there be no mistake that they will not tolerate that kind of bigotry from their neighbors.
Kudos to Kalispell ... the way to put down this kind of ignorance is by proactively letting them know that nearly all white people are not as insecure as they are, and that they will make no friends by making the rest of us look bad.

Ugh! I wish these people would just go back to California, the last thing Montana needs is more people with a hating agenda to move here and portray Montana and Idaho as a haven for racists.
Good for the people in Kalispell. I respect the right of the family to live wherever they want, but if they thought they could move to Montana to be with other haters I hope they are badly disappointed, and I hope when their leaving the state gets as much press as their coming here.

I have had to do some convincing of people down here that people in MT are not all ignorant racists, which some people do believe based on little news snippets now and then. I have to convince them that any high-profile racists that move to MT do, in fact, tend to come from CA. There just aren't many home-grown racist activists in MT ... those jackasses just move to MT assuming that people up there will agree with their politics.
I agree, grizbeer, in hoping that stories like this convince the racists in CA, OR and WA (and everywhere else) that MT is not their great white utopia of ignorance that they are all looking for, and that they find someplace else to go (like, say, extreme northern Alaska where nobody else lives). There's nothing more satisfying than to see a racist disillusioned by the anti-racist showing of their white neighbors.
