FCS Playoffs- Quarterfinals
NDSU vs Mercer (+20)
SDSU vs Incarnate Word (+21)
South Dakota vs UC Davis (+8)
Montana State vs Idaho (+15.5)
Quarterfinals time. Both NDSU and USD both had a little tougher games than expected last week but both found ways to survive. SDSU dominated the gris, as expected. This week NDSU and SDSU face teams where they are both nearly 3 touchdown favorites whereas USD will have a true challenge this week. Cats have to beat an Idaho team again but Idaho has some new life with some injures players returning.

Re: FCS Playoffs- Quarterfinals
I know people are confident about this weekend, but I am a bit apprehensive about the over confidence.
We got Idaho when they were down with some crucial injured players. We jumped out to an early lead and momentum is so important in a game.
I would be willing bet this game is a lot closer than most on here predict.

Fans can be overconfident or apprehensive. Cats are focused on 1-0. Who was injured that is back other than QB. Last week Idaho ran for 92 yards at 2.8 YPC, they gave up 169 at 4 YPC. Those #s don't bode well vs Cats.4thecats wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 11:00 amI know people are confident about this weekend, but I am a bit apprehensive about the over confidence.

I agree. They slipped by PSU, EWU and Weber. Their missing QB isn't why Cats rolled to 38 points last game. That is with 2nd/3rd teamers in the 3rd/4th quarter. Spuds are good, Cats are ELITE. Cats will win handily.tetoncat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 11:44 amFans can be overconfident or apprehensive. Cats are focused on 1-0. Who was injured that is back other than QB. While the “seeding” of the top 16 teams was supposed to shake things up a bit, I don’t see it. There still is regionality. And there are still rematches, I guess to build a little hype. Out of all the teams, MSU played T-Mart, a rematch from three years ago. They pitted the Jackrabbits against the gris in a rematch of last year’s championship game. They have MSU vs Idaho in a rematch of one of the higher-ranked games of the year. As mentioned above, UIW has already been to SDSU this year. And are we supposed to believe that Idaho is the weakest of the lower-ranked teams this week? I’m not buying that. It just sort of seems like business as usual as far as the rematches and travel are concerned. Why else would MSU be playing Idaho again instead of UIW or Mercer? Although the TV rating will be pretty good comparatively.
Go, ‘Cats! Take care of business, take care of Idaho.

The Bobcats took the second half first possession right down the field in 2 minutes to make it 31-0 and from that point on started calling off the dogs. If they keep their foot on the gas that game was 60+ to ZERO. A few players aren't changing that big of a difference in the two teams.RockyBearCat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 11:55 amI agree. All the talk the last time we played Idaho was how good their defense was in regards to stopping the run. And then they whined about missing their best QB. We all saw how this worked out for them and I don't expect much different this time.

The vaunted Idaho rush defense gave up 360 yards last time. Dang, that darn missing QB.

Looking at the records and resumes of the 16 teams I think the seedings are about right, there is a few places where you could argue a position or 2 but their are good arguments for where they are.Bobcat4Ever wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 12:03 pmWhile the “seeding” of the top 16 teams was supposed to shake things up a bit, I don’t see it. Seeding the top 16 isn't done to avoid regionalization or previous matchups, its done to avoid top teams from facing each other early in the bracket. We are now into the quarters and 2/3 of the teams are eliminated, there may be some regular season rematches, its just how it is supposed to work.

So UI had a big lead against Lehigh, and they still couldn't run the ball against a Patriot league team.

I thought seeding 1 - 16 made the first round games much better. Maybe it's a coincidence?Bobcat4Ever wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 12:03 pmWhile the “seeding” of the top 16 teams was supposed to shake things up a bit, I don’t see it. There still is regionality.
