New Mexico, and Utah State for that matter, would be at the very least lateral moves IMO. I know they're both bigger paydays but why leave an FCS powerhouse that is clearly ascending for an FBS celler dweller?
He would more than double his salary but you think that is a lateral move?
Absolutely. I'm not ignorant to the pay raise. Just seems to me winning 90% of your games at the FCS level would open more doors than overseeing a perennial bottom feeder. Plus, have you been to Albuquerque?!
Yea Albuquerque is really nice. Better than Bozeman for a lot of people's taste.
Not sure that dominating at the FCS level of football is seen in the same light that you think it is. Building an FBS team would be seen with a lot more favorability IMHO. Maybe I'm wrong but in the mean time he'd be making millions with a lot lower expectations.
To each their own...
Outside of more money, can't imagine UNM has much more to offer than MSU. Seems MSU moving up is inevitable. Maybe the chance to see MSU through that transition is worth more to Vigen. We'll see.

I always wonder if the impending MSU Presidential change and potential AD change (if the new president doesn’t retain Leon) may factor in to a potential coaching change. I hope Leon would be retained, but you never know. The new president may be someone he doesn’t want to work for.
On that note, make your voices heard that we want a president that supports athletics.

Yeah, one would hope that the marker that President Cruzado has put down as far as university-wide support for athletics would be a good example for whomever is the next president. The university is thriving at least in part because our brand has been built by our athletic programs. Seems obvious.

Brooke Berry transferred to MSU from UNM in part, because Albuquerque is riddled with crime and gangs. She didn't feel safe on campus. That pretty much says it all.

Crime rate is almost the same actually.
Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

Nothing is distorted. ABQ is safer than ~1% of other cities and Billings is safer than ~2%. Very similar on many crime metrics.
Both terrible for crime rate.

I think I'm misunderstanding you. Are you saying that 98% of cities are safer than Billings?

Correct. Numbers vary a tad but that's a pretty close number by a lot of crime metrics.

I don’t think Vigen will get the UNM job. They are focused on candidates with familiarity to the school and area.
The UNLV job just opened up. Once a dead end job, it seems to be a much more attractive option.

Also looks like Marion and perhaps their DC will follow Odom to Purdue, Vigen would be an interesting fit in Vegas. For some reason feel he'd fit in better at UNM.

My hunch would be that UNLV will want to go for a "splashier" hire than Vigen, especially since that is a way more attractive job right now than it has been in the past. Coach Vigen is the ultimate no-nonsense professional, so he and Las Vegas seem to go together about as well as Bobby Hauck and a Toastmasters meeting. UNM seems like a more realistic option but I bet they want to move faster than waiting for Vigen to become available which could still potentially be a month away.
