The thing that jumps out about their depth chart is that they have 4 guys over 300 pounds on the two deep d-line whereas we have none. Also their linebackers are a lot bigger than ours. It just shows how the two teams are built differently.
I believe they run a 3-3-5, so their ends are really more like interior defensive lineman.

Regardless, bigger does not necessarily mean better. Tennessee Tech had a big DL, and those guys couldn’t move worth a ******.

The Griz run a 3-3-5 and in memory serves, the two ends are not big at all.

There are different ways to run it.

I think if the Griz could get big DL that can move, they would. They seem to value the ability to be flexible and athletic more than some others do. And when they have the right talent, their defense is really good. Created a lot of chaos. It doesn’t seem to me like TT or UT Martin run their scheme that way. They want to control gaps more and use their line to allow the LB’s space to play, thus their ends are more like tackles.

They are more similar to Eastern and UC Davis in how they play their 3-man front, per Vigen.

If you watch the MSU / UCDavis replay and the UTM / UNH replay, there seems to be a pretty big difference between how quick the front 3 are comparing UCDavis and UTM. Also, the Cats O-line absolutely launches at the snap. UNH ... not so much.

For some reason we've had more issues running against teams with 3 man front defenses. Does that just happen to coincide with the teams that had the better defenses this year? Maybe. Physically, these guys are big but I think we're going to absolutely handle them at the point of attack. We struggled to get on the second level at times against Davis with our o-line. If we can get on their LBs tomorrow i think we rush for as many as we want to. If not we may have to throw it more. But either way, I have come around to the idea that this game is a warmup and we cover the 17.5 or 18.5 easily.
