Vigen Speaks to Utah State about HC Opening
Just posting to get the information out there.
For my two cents, if Coach Vigen did leave after this year, it could be devastating. In these moves, the coaching staff, roster, and prospects usually get poached. Which would make it even harder to replace a senior heavy lineup, including at QB, and keep continuity amongst the team for next year and years to come. It could be tough sledding ahead if this is the year Vigen decides to leave.
If we build it, the championships will come: https://msubobcats.com/sports/2017/9/20 ... rPlan.aspx

He’s gonna leave at some point. It sucks, but it’s a good thing too.

Could USU stop taking our nice things? I mean I'm sorry you suck at building success but you don't have to constantly poach ours. Jacka$$es.

It is a harsh reality, but yes at some point he will leave. But, for right now, lets enjoy the good times and not focus on this type of negativity. We will have plenty of time to focus on transfer portal and potential coaching changes in the offseason.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 11:32 amHe’s gonna leave at some point. I’m glad we’ve had him as long as we have.
If he goes, I hope he leaves a Natty Trophy…
I trust MSU to find another great replacement.

poaching us is their best option. other choices are sucky FBS coaches or too expensive.Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 11:34 amCould USU stop taking our nice things? I mean I'm sorry you suck at building success but you don't have to constantly poach ours. Jacka$$es.

Re: Vigen Speaks to Utah State about HC Opening
Vigen is a quality candidate there, but I wonder if he beats out the "name" candidate with ties there. The fresno thing is maybe more concerning, that's a pretty big time job as well, better than USU in my opinion, and thus far at least not as many bigger names tied to it. Really hoping we can keep him here at least 1 more year to help transition out of this large, consequential senior group, but if not, so be it. This conversation will be had every fall until he leaves because he's that good.

Re: Vigen Speaks to Utah State about HC Opening
With the portal opening next week, the main question for me would be if Utah State (or Fresno State) will be willing to wait until potentially the second week of January to hire their new head coach. Maybe they will especially if there's some sort of unofficial agreement in place that Vigen will take the job once MSU's season ends, but at the same time losing out on a full month of recruiting is not ideal either compared to hiring someone available now. I'm almost more concerned about the jobs that aren't open yet, but will be coming open later on as coaches fill the currently open positions and leave vacancies at others. That's how Sprinkle got hired by USU, it was something like the fourth step in a chain of coaching moves and happened relatively late in the process.

Well said. This in-line with my thinking as well. At the very least would like to keep him for one more year, just to keep things steady at MSU.GoldstoneCat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 12:01 pmVigen is a quality candidate there, but I wonder if he beats out the "name" candidate with ties there. I think Vigen would be perfect at Purdue-kind of like Joe Tiller was...but probably too big of a jump?

For what it's worth, I just checked the Utah State message board and one of the users there who seems to have decent information most of the time says that Vigen received preliminary interest but isn't a serious candidate.

I mentioned in the random stuff thread that it was said on the BYU broadcast Saturday night Jay Hill is their man. Expected to make their offer this week.

Re: Vigen Speaks to Utah State about HC Opening
Kinda goes in line with Choate's speaking on the matter. For some reason FBS teams are gun shy about hiring FCS head coaches instead going for the coordinator at the higher level. Now maybe Vigen is different because he has been that at the FBS level, but I don't think Jay gets the job if he is still at Weber. I guess its just a hard sell to fans and boosters.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 12:24 pmI mentioned in the random stuff thread that it was said on the BYU broadcast Saturday night Jay Hill is their man. Re: Vigen Speaks to Utah State about HC Opening
I do hope he stays, especially having 2 sons on the team next year. But money does talk. It would be nice if he'd stay at least one more year to help with the transition of losing such a remarkable group of seniors, like someone else said. He seems pretty committed to some goals here, so when the Cats win the NC, then that might lead to him leaving.

It would be nice to get a coach who just wants to stay here, like Coach Binford.

Not looking good for us... Sounds like Hill and Bronco are both off the table. fing Utah state, find your own coaches...
