If Perk is healthy

1. He makes for a unbelievable depth piece and should come in if needed because the continuity of the O-Line is paramount right now.

2. What are stupid, he's our best center and if he's ready he should start and play.

For some reason Vigen said the medical year was off the table. That doesn't make any sense to me because there are way more guys than you can count in their 6th and 7th years. It's possible Perk is done by his own choice. He has his degree and is ready for the next step. That would make perfect sense to me.

So to your question? If he is done after this year, you treat it similar to Julius. Start getting him in the game in limited reps and keep increasing for each opportunity. For this season, work him back as a clear #2, but don't disrupt the elite play on the current OL. If the kid can have an medical year and he actually would like a medical year, then sit him out the rest of the way regardless of his recovery.

Perkins is great, but I would keep Sain at center. I'm a little wary of a new center and the slight nuances in the snap/exchange. (Speaking solely from my extremely limited time as a back up center nearly 40 years ago. I may have caused an unnecessary fumble or two)

In rergards to this situation, it couldn't involve a better person. Perk is a great kid from an even better family. They're a team first crew who care about nothing more than winning from my perspective. Whatever Vigen decides to do, I'm confident Perk will support the decision and put personal feelings aside. If the staff feels that the continuity on the line gives us a better chance to win than inserting Perk does, that's what they'll do and I'd bet my house that Perk would still be the incredible teammate and leader he's been all season.

In general we're very lucky to have the Perkins family so involved in this program. =D^

Common sense tells me to vote on the side of not trying to fix something that clearly isn't broken, but I'll trust the coaches who watch these guys in practice every day to make the decision on who are the best five guys to start. MSU is in great shape either way!

Yeah, Perk graduated nearly two years ago. Like some of the other commenters wrote; I'm sure this is what Perk wanted, to come back now.

He was extremely gracious in speaking with my son after the spring scrimmage and my son was looking forward to watch him play.

I am in the minority of voting that he should be back as the starter. Given his track record, I do not believe him coming back would mess with continuity at all. The guy was basically flawless for 3 years and voted to one of the preseason All American teams. I'd want my best guys in there if he is in fact healthy and good to go.

That said, Sain has done a good job this season, in that nothing noticeable has gone wrong. I'm not an expert on center play other than to say that between him and Perkins, I haven't seen many (if any) bad snaps in the last four seasons. Sain is also more versatile, to where he could still find time at Guard if needed to rotate through there. As many have said, I trust the coaching staff to make the right choice, in a situation where it seems neither choice would be a bad one.

If he's cleared 100% to play full on, that is a really good thing for this team. But I agree with posters that say to leave Sain in for now, and I'm not counting this over the next two games but if we jump out to a big lead, I'd say work him back in to the lineup then, and assuming he and Sain are both rock solid, maybe can split reps moving forward into the playoffs? Any way you slice it though... that's a damn good backup Center if that's what it ends up being.

I love Justus. He’s a great story, appears to have been a great teammate, has been a good player.

At the end of the day, Sain has been playing the position better than Justus ever did. Al Johnson and Vigen know that. Justus will play, but I doubt we’ll see him start.
