The gris have huge offensive linemen but they don't have great feet. They are huge lumbering "elephants" imo. Ours are more athletic and quicker and can get to the second level faster. That's why our backs can break out into the clear more, especially up the middle.
We have cultivated that type of OL since Choate. Vigen knows what proliferates a dominant offensive line and it's not just size.
We also use our TE's much more than any other BSC team.
Kind of surprised how little attention the TEs have gotten. Rohan and Lonergan are both really good all around players. The TD by McCullouch had nice blocks by both. Adam Jones too. I think the TEs have passed up last year’s, statistically, already.
Maybe it’s just me but last two years Pickering and the Alaskan Assassin/Snell were such a big deal and rightly so. Just seems like this year’s crop isn’t getting as much attention despite how well they’re playing.

If the Cats hits their rushing averages today, it will raise the Aggies’ season YPC allowed by almost half a yard.

Pickering 15-303-2 (11 games)
Snell 12-157-3 (6 games)
Lonergan 6-93-1 (12 games)
33-553-6
Jones 22-352-6
Lonergan 8-93-2
Schlepp 6-125-1
Provience 6-88-0
42-660-9
I’m not sure which group blocked better. Pretty comparable all the way around it seems.
Lonergan and Schlepp could be the Bozeman Brooze Brothers. Jones the Canadian Clubber. Provience the Head Hunter.

Yeah a quick comparison of last year's TE stats with this year looks like:
last year 5TEs ended the year with a total of 37 catches and 7 TD
this year 4TEs so far have a total of 42 catches and 9 TD
Gregorak's excitement anytime Pickering or Snell did something really sticks in a person's mind while this year his reporting of TE play is good but not so over the top. I like Gregorak's work, over the top or not.
If you're looking for someone with a little authority, I'm your man. I have as little as anyone!

No, without your post Tom, I would’ve never gotten curious enough to look at and compare the stats from last year to this year. Those stats kind of surprised me.

I think Walker gets the TE's involved in the passing game a lot more then Housewright did. I think Snell's blocking in the run game was sorely underrated (and that's saying something because people were very high on his blocking). Once Snell went out for the year, it looked like our offense lost a step. Rohan has done amazing work to fill Snell's role this year.

2022 would be a better comparison, Snell missed a good chunk of last year.

Great performance by Julius Davis. 13-91-1. He and Mellott (and defense and Taco) really bailed out the rush offense. MSU showed it can win games against very good teams without a huge numbers from run game, especially Humphrey, Jones and Mellott, who had 21 carries for 68 yards and no touchdowns.
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).
