You're very right. However, the defense doesn’t get to pretend they don't know a substitution is happening and delay the snap even further. The play where a new DT came on, the DT he tapped made a shift, then stood up and looked confused before basically walking off the field should have been a 12 men in formation penalty, or delay on the defense.ringthebells wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 4:52 pmIf you are on offense and need to substitute late, you may as well call a timeout. Any defense worth a crap will sub at the speed of smell. The offense will either get a penalty or call the TO. If the defense is not allowed that time it gives the offense an unfair advantage. The offense would sub with 5 seconds left and screw over the defense. Whoever the O coordinator is for Davis should be getting an ass chewing. The slow counter sub isn't unusual. Everyone involved know the routine.

They don't get the full play clock. This only happens when the offense substitutes late.KIX wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 11:37 amI completely agree. Those two (or maybe three) situations last night where the refs were blocking UCD play with the play clock under 5 was mind boggling.PapaG wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 9:33 amNice to see Bobby’s cute little clock game with running defensive substitutions in late backfired and gave Davis a big first down for 12 on the field. I’ve seen this ploy against Oregon, too, as the refs stand over the ball and give the defense 20 seconds to slowly substitute to the point the offense either takes a delay of game or calls a timeout. This should be addressed in the offseason and the defense gets maybe a 15 second window to sub instead of the full play clock.
OCs know this. It's only incompetence that lets a D run the clock. Utah did it a number of times to BYU last night.
I didn't watch the Davis game, but I've watched it with Oregon (and with BYU) and those D players are generally off the field in 15 seconds.

Wonder if the "vaunted gris defense" can stop PSUs QB? What's he gotten, like 3 player of the week honors this season? Idaho held him in check, so maybe the gris will too. But if not...

Pretty close. I’d say Idaho.
Idaho beat Wyoming
Idaho only lost to UC Davis by two on the road.
Huge drop from 1-2 to 3.

Re: FCS Games 11/9
I saw a comment on fb inferring Ah Yat was being played due to booster expectations and maybe a financial incentive as well. Would Bobby be manipulated like that? Likely not, but clearly the 2 QB system he's running is not working.

Re: FCS Games 11/9
Cal-Davis subbed immediately after the play. The Gris took almost all 40 seconds of the play clock to run subs in and out of the formation. That’s not on the OC. That’s a deliberate strategy (and currently within the rules) to force either a penalty or a timeout by the defense. The way the Griz ran the subs in was technically 12 men, but because the ref was standing over the ball, suddenly it’s fine.onceacat wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 6:05 pmThey don't get the full play clock. I feel like the first time, UCD ran a WR on very late(only had 10 on the field). Then the Griz figured out they could get away with it so they milked it pretty good after that. I agree, there has to be some kind of limit when it's obvious that the defense is taking advantage. Maybe a warning then an infraction on the coach or something.PapaG wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 8:23 amCal-Davis subbed immediately after the play. Maybe just a set amount of time, like 5 seconds from when substituting player gets set/past the numbers. Then at least the offense would know how long they would be held up.technoCat wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 8:52 amI feel like the first time, UCD ran a WR on very late(only had 10 on the field). In the one instance, I'm convinced Boobie saw a chance to jump on the situation. He ran a D lineman onto the field and the dude he was subbing in for had no idea. He was down in his stance ready to fire when the sub shoved him out an off the field with under 10 on the play clock.4KornerKat wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 9:12 amMaybe just a set amount of time, like 5 seconds from when substituting player gets set/past the numbers. I never said it wasn’t good coaching. If it’s within the rules, exploit it until a change is made to the rule.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 12:00 pmHey, if you can take advantage of the rules, that’s good coaching imo.

Let me finish his answer:
“….about our fans or booster base that cheers for this team, evidenced by me completely disrespecting the local media members that try to bring stories about our team to the fans and boosters.”
Just another facepalm moment.

Damn, I'm glad we have Coach Vigen and not that dude. He almost looks checked out, doubt he has many more years left in him at this point. He'll never get the championship he so desperately wants and I think he knows it.
