Oh, man! Thank you! I have mis-remembered that game for so long that I had clarified the memory. It’s the right game as I remember Wayne Edwards rumbling past going left to right. I was very surprised to read that was the fifth play of the game! I must have been distracted — a rising junior at MSU, she was very cute.AFCAT wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2024 3:49 pmMemories. My girlfriend of the time lived in Great Falls and it made a fun date. My memory says Wayne Edwards scored the only touchdown on a breakaway as MSU won 13-6.BobcatDel wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2024 4:27 pmThere will be others that know the answer better than I but I remember season opener gamers were played in Great Falls on more than one occasion. As a young boy I remember a game against North Dakota State played there. I wonder if it was an early version of the Triangle Classic.
MSU used to play in Billings and Great Falls, I think in alternating years. I remember watching a game at Daylis, maybe in 1975. It was just a way to get MSU known around the state and thank the boosters and alumni — games weren’t on TV then and school started later on the Quarter system.![]()

I'll never forget that; staring in disbelief at my TV screen. It really happened... THE BOBCATS ARE GOING TO THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!! And then hearing the broadcast pick up the stadium PA playing, "If you're goin' to play in Texas, you better have a fiddle in the band." Unreal.

Re: Random stuff 2024
My brother and I were at the game in North Dakota when the Cats lost in the semi-final game to NDSU. The Bison played that song and were waiving the Texas flag around and everyone was cheering and dancing. The Texas flag waiving part was kind of weird, but I figured out why thy were doing it. Anyway, my brother and I couldn't stand hearing that song. Then, when the very first strum of the guitar in the song came on the PA at Bobcat stadium, I immediately recognized it and turned to my brother and we both just looked at each other, let out a "Hell Yeah!" and kind of teared up a bit. That was so cool to hear the song from the winning side. I even caught the moment on video with my phone. One of my funnest and most memorable moments in Bobcat stadium.Bobcat Sig wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 11:02 amI'll never forget that; staring in disbelief at my TV screen. It really happened... This may have been noted in the records thread or elsewhere that I missed but I just saw this in the description of that video:
Now that is damn impressive!By raising his career record to 40-9, Montana State's Brent Vigen became the first coach in Big Sky Conference history to win at least 40 of his first 50 games

Maybe it's from an alternate timeline.

Was looking for the preseason ball polls and found this gem. "I'll take articles that aged poorly for $200 please!"

They can still win the conference. They have 3 easy games, UC Davis and Cats. They control their destiny, win out they are champsrfischer94 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 6:18 pmWas looking for the preseason ball polls and found this gem. "I'll take articles that aged poorly for $200 please!"

Re: Random stuff 2024
That is an interesting perspective. They have 3 of the 4 last place teams to play. But the chances they win out is extremely low. I think they go 3-2 over the last 5 games and make the playoffs, but make an early exit from the playoffs.tetoncat wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 6:46 pmThey can still win the conference. Not saying they will do it, just think it is early to say the article aged poorly as really UC Davis, MSU, and UM can all still win it.Cataholic wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 7:34 pmThat is an interesting perspective. Speaking of... If anyone has an XL (lineman) jersey for sale, I'd be interested in purchasing it. Interested in any era/#. My son and I attended the sale at the stadium last year, but were too late to get any of the "fat man" jerseys, although he did pick up a couple of gray jerseys in his size. I seem to miss every auction and eBay listing by a matter of days

Re: Random stuff 2024
Just be aware that even the player worn XL jerseys will be tight on even the regular fan. These player jerseys aren't the same loose fitting fan jerseys sold for pro and college teams. If you want something more comfortable and looks decent, go to an online seller. Just google 'Montana State football jerseys' and you can find all sorts of them out there. If you want a replica of what the players wear, then this site makes them. I don't know about the quality though and I'm not endorsing these jerseys, but I do see them worn at games by various fans and family members. https://www.dhgate.com/product/american ... 9159258200RUACAT wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 10:01 amSpeaking of... MSU hockey jerseys seem to be pretty popular at football games these days too.
There is also an eBay listing for an MSU #54 jersey but I don't know the size and they are asking $400 or best offer for it. Kind of steep.
