Just watched the video again.

The first dunk on that video was/is "THE DUNK"

The dunk against St Johns in the NCAA tourney. I also beleive the #4 Dunk is also "THE DUNK"as it appeared live on the national broadcast of the game.

The Holy Grail of MSU Dunk'ness

As such remember, before watching that video all Bobcats must remove any hats you may be wearing for the duration of the Video.

Moderators please delete all Dewey Michaels references in this thread. No offense Dewey.

Yes, the St. Johns slam is unreal, but I also like the one where he hits the back of his head hard against the backboard. I mean his head snaps forward, so it's not like he just grazed it. The guy is a freak of nature. Unreal! I always thought it was just my memory making his dunks seem so sweet, but it really happened just the way I remembered. No need to embellish.

The best ever played before the dunk was outlawed--Larry Chanay. Where is he in our scoring records?

No doubt he was a great Bobcat, but no one could catch the 'air' like Kral could.

Can't remember all the data, but as I recall Kral played some BB (Christian Athletes, etc.), but was on the Olympic team in VB (?) because of his vertical leap.

Fantastic video though! What a player!

LTC Val York who played against Chanay for Nevada many, many years ago still talked about a dunk Chanay made against him--he left the floor about the freethrow line and went OVER him...suppose it's on film someplace, but you've got to remember this was during the first couple of years we had a fieldhouse and we're probably only going to find film of Elgin Baylor getting beat I think by the Cats the year he led Seattle to a final four. Some of you older ones may have heard of Baylor?

My father-in-law played for the 'Cats in the game against Elgin Baylor. I'll always remember him telling me about it. He said that he was guarding Baylor and he scored 18 points against him, "....but we won the game."

i'd put matt dhlouy right up there with ferch as a dunker. i think his dunk on boston college this spring was the equal of ferch's against st. john's. the b.c. guy thought he had an easy block but dhlouy just kept skyin'. now there's a dunk i'd like to see again.

kid from eastern washington, henry bekkering, is supposed to be quite a dunker too.

Kral's dunk during the MSU vs. University of California Golden Bears game. He came down the baseline, went in and up and up and up (may have pushed off a bit) and came to the basket with the rim not much above his waist.

I remember it well because the entire Cal team jumped off the bench and applauded.

Was that the year when Tony Gonzales was playing basketball for Cal?

It was brought to my attention someone picked up on the video I posted out there of Kral dunking. The link in this chain of replies does not show everything I originally posted out on the Gazette Sports Blog and for those of you interested in this subject can read more at http://www.billingsgazette.net/h/blogs/ ... .php?p=130.

The link to two different media types of the video and 3 photos can be found at http://www.ourmedia.org/node/20613.

The video is small so it would be easy for all of you to download but I could create a larger more detailed version for those really interested. The source was taking from the Kral's MSU hightlight VHS video which had been watched a few hundred times so I cannot do much about the quality. I also picked out just a few of his dunks from that highlight video. I could pick out a lot more and post if I see there is enough interest I will create a longer video for all of you Ferch junkies. Actually this is more for all of you that did not get a chance to see Kral in action.

Thanks, mkokot! I never thought I would see those again.

By any chance can you identify the dunk against Cal on the video highlights? That would be something to see again. It was at the west basket in the fieldhouse. It was unique to me because of the reaction of the victimized team -- they shot off the bench as if it was electrified!

Kral went to MSU fall of 83 and played 4 years. His brother only played for two before transferring to Peperdine U.

I went to high school in Livingston with these two boys. The first day they got to the High School they were playing (and dunking) in the gym. I tell you that everyone in the school was watching them go at it. It was just amazing! Yes, Kral went on to play with the Christain Basketball program and for the Volleyball team for the US. I think his vertical was around 42" if I am not mistaken. Their Dad still playes basketball in the Indian tournament every year at MSU (and in pickup games where he can find them). He is in great shape for his age. He also coached them in High School.

Both those boys were just the nicest kids and yes, they have children but you will have to wait for about 10 year before any of them play in college. If you have any other questions, I will try and find it out for you. Their parents still live here in Bozeman and their Dad is at all of the basketball games.

That was a sarcastic remark for the Griz fan "flaunting" their boys. I know all about the Ferch's as I am a Livingston kid and went to little kid camps when both boys were in high school.
