Reunited with Joe Moorhead. Wonder if Tyler Roehl would be interested…probably not.
Would it be completely out of the question that he was told to move on and his mentor hired him as a safe landing spot with the DUI charges still over Housewroght’s head? He won’t have nearly the play-calling responsibilities at Akron as Moorhead will continue to heavily influence, if not actually call, the plays. Seems like a good spot to lay low for a few years and rebuild his reputation both off the field and also work on how he treats players without fans and boosters watching his every move as it would be in Bozeman.

Seems like a nice, clean break from each other for both parties.
It’s possible, but coaches don’t give out OC jobs like candy, and it comes with a substantial raise. So it’s possible, but unlikely imo.

Being an OC is more than just calling plays, btw.
Gee thanks, had no clue prior to this moment that an OC had more responsibilities than just calling plays during a game because this was my first season following the ol’ gridiron.

I know a lot of fans are excited to see him gone, and I understand why. He didn’t endear himself to the public as a person. But the offense was absurdly successful under him. I don’t think this is necessarily addition by subtraction.

Evidently Vigen feels confidence in his in-house guys. May be easier on the players too rather than having to adapt to a new guy.

Damn Vigen… if you weren’t so quick to pull the trigger on this, you could have talked to Saban. Now we’ll never know if he had any interest in coming here…

Tyler Walker will be a fun one. He's a very confident person and has fun coaching the game of football. His tight end/fullback room loves him. He's also been referred to as a young Bob Green.

https://www.kulr8.com/sports/montana-st ... 8fddb.html

Walker was a wide receiver in college but mostly coached the defensive side of the ball prior to coming to MSU. My biggest problem with last year was we did things really well but then we wouldn't see all of those plays for a while. Felt like we were trying to force a balanced attack. I know some fans want a passing game but I'm a big believer in enforcing your will on opponents with what you do well. Hopefully Tyler can gives us the right mix on offense and dial it up in the big situations.

Tight Ends coach, does that.....do we even dream......will we finally feature the tight end more in the passing game?! :-k :-k

I am thinking we will judging by this coaching course given by Tyler, called;

"The Hybrid Tight End -Technique & Fundamentals of the Best Offensive Weapon"

It was clearly a longer process than normal for him to be cleared at Akron and is at least plausible. I know your know-it-all schtick though. All good here.

I’ll be honest, I’m just really confused by the Walker promotion. I’m not saying he’s not a good coach, but zero offensive play calling history, and who’s going to be the QB coach? Maybe it’s seeing SDSU hire North Dakota’s OC to replace theirs has me jaded, but this seems underwhelming to me.

My impression is that Vigen is very particular about who he trusts either through prior association or coaches on staff going to bat ie Jody Owen’s.

Must have liked how Tyler was coaching tight ends and trusts will keep same language basics that have successful so far.

Must have patience because this will be learning on job.

The WMG era would contradict your thoughts.

Udy could move over to QB coach which was his originally hired position anyway and continue to be passing game coordinator. Hire a new WR coach which is usually a young up and comer anyway. I think fans will be in for a fun experience with Walker running the offense.

How so? Vigen coached with WMG at NDSU, thus the trust through prior association.

Definitely an unexpected (at least for me) hire as the OC. I thought Udy would be the initial front runner for an internal candidate, as he was hired as an OC by Choate before he left for Texas. My second thought was Al Johnson could be in line for OC to keep him on staff, as I view him as a real up and coming star in the profession. Thirdly, I was thinking there was a possibility that Vigen would be the main play caller.

I certainly don't have anything against Tyler Walker, I just don't know anything about him as an offensive mind. I'll say....he's definitely done a great job with the TE's

Monte eats corn the long way.

Yeah, that all makes sense. I just think optics wise, it’s disappointing.
