Speaking of DBs, I thought it was interesting that Kory Boyd and the Dungy kid are still unsigned.

Dungy doesn’t really have offers and I would bet Boyd is holding out for better offers.

Bobcat athletics is a business to the coaches, school leadership, and players. It's time the fans treat Bobcat athletics as a business too.

Boyd holding out for better offers is probably true and I bet why this young man got an offer.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 5:44 pmDungy doesn’t really have offers and I would bet Boyd is holding out for better offers.

I know recruiting offers vary from year to year but it's interesting to see the amount of time and resources put into Texas recruiting this year and the return on investment, 3 recruits on 31 offers, compared with Washington, 5 recruits on 7 offers. California was 0 for 10 for recruiting this year and Arizona was 0 for 4 and Ohio 0 for 5. No offers, that I know of, to Utah and Nevada players which seem to be decent recruiting grounds for other schools. 2025 recruiting already looks like more of the same, Texas currently leads the way with 5 offers, California with 4, Washington with 3, and Minnesota 1.

I'll never be against investing resources in Texas recruiting. Part of our rise dating back to when Ash took over was because of a renewed investment in recruiting Texas. Now it did get stale by the end of Ash's tenure as Choate decided to move back into the I-5 corridor which paid dividends as well. For whatever reason, Nevada/Arizona/Colorado have never been big recruiting areas for us. Texas, Washington, Idaho, and Oregon have been great since Choate took over and Vigen continued carrying the torch. California will always be a wildcard but you almost have to continue plucking players from those major program areas. Montana has also produced really good talent the past 10 years.AFCAT wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 12:16 pmI know recruiting offers vary from year to year but it's interesting to see the amount of time and resources put into Texas recruiting this year and the return on investment, 3 recruits on 31 offers, compared with Washington, 5 recruits on 7 offers. I'd never give up on Texas or any state. I do think it would a good strategy to look even closer to Colorado, Nevada, and Utah for potential players though. Easy locations to get to for recruiting and for parents or relatives to get to games as well. I'm sure a lot of players in those states have at least heard of Montana too.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 12:21 pmI'll never be against investing resources in Texas recruiting. I think you go where your connections are. Bap and WMG had texas connections. Sam Mix has a lot of Seattle area connections. And I think Howe is connected in SoCal. I think you use those guys for your initial inroads and then supplement and expand with your younger coaches.AFCAT wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 12:28 pmI'd never give up on Texas or any state. I remember Choate saying he wanted to recruit areas that had direct flights to Bozeman. I also like the idea of looking at where the out of state hot spots are for enrollment/non-athletic recruiting. And target some of those areas.
All of that said, one thing I've learned over the years is that recruiting is a total crapshoot. A lot of the guys from out of state I was most excited about didn't pan out, while others who seemed to be afterthoughts ended up being stars.

I've said this before and I think Vigen mentioned it the other day, but with the conference realignment, MSU must have just about as good of a shot as anybody (outside of UW) to land a good player in Washington. Used to automatically lose out to WSU and even EWU, but for a kid who's not good enough to play for the Huskies, might as well jump over to MT. Glad they've capitalized on that!AFCAT wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 12:16 pmI know recruiting offers vary from year to year but it's interesting to see the amount of time and resources put into Texas recruiting this year and the return on investment, 3 recruits on 31 offers, compared with Washington, 5 recruits on 7 offers. Everyone recruits Texas and there are so many instate options as a player. Just read an article regarding the creation of a new FCS program in South Texas; University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) to start play in 2025. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t keep recruiting there though.wbtfg wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 1:04 pmI think you go where your connections are. Bap and WMG had texas connections.
