Re: Golden Coolie Questions
You are creating a team with players over the last 20 years…. At QB, between the following 4 players, you need to start one, bench one and cut two. Whatta ya got?

Re: Golden Coolie Questions
Wow, that's a tough one. At this point, my answer would just be solely based on durability, longevity and overall development and performance as seasoned/senior QB's, so I'd have to go with starting McGhee with Lulay as the backup Hard decision to make, but DM was a slightly better field general than Lulay. Ask the same question again in 2 years after Tommy finishes his career and Lulay may drop off. DM will still be top 2, order is still TBDmslacatfan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 2:38 pmYou are creating a team with players over the last 20 years…. Re: Golden Coolie Questions
We hear all the time that some teams don't travel well, a statement I've heard about our Bobcats. Frankly I hate hearing it because it sounds like a built-in excuse to perform poorly on the road rather than actual fact, and maybe if a team doesn't travel well part of the problem might be that they keep telling themselves that they don't travel well. My GC question is: What qualities are most important for a team to travel well and how do coaches instill those qualities into their team and have our coaches done that?

Re: Golden Coolie Questions
Piggybacking on @Joe Bobcat's question: Why do FCS teams in general not travel well? What gives home teams such an advantage, even those that are clearly overmatched going into the game?
Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

Re: Golden Coolie Questions
Tomcat88 talks about plays longer than 20 yards by the opponent, I'm sure the jackrabbits will have theirs but how many? Also, how many is too much for the Cats to overcome?

Cats traveled pretty well to Sam Houston that one time.....coloradocat wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 6:23 pmPiggybacking on @Joe Bobcat's question: Why do FCS teams in general not travel well? What gives home teams such an advantage, even those that are clearly overmatched going into the game?

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Also, remember when Kramers team played so much better on the road that he started having them stay in Livingston before home games.

Re: Golden Coolie Questions
Unpopular opinion, but PRUKOP would be the QB1, followed by DeNarius McGhee (sophomore year). If you’re looking at stats they stand out from the others. He was unfortunate to have played with no defense to help him out.mslacatfan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 2:38 pmYou are creating a team with players over the last 20 years…. That being said they are all studs of a growing qb legacy at MSU.

Re: Golden Coolie Questions
No way am I cutting any of those 4 players. two will play QB (probably Lulay and McGhee) and the other 2 will play running back or slot or safety or something else. All 4 will be on the team and on the field and I'll fight anybody who says they can't or shouldn't be. No way will I be the guy that cut anyone of those guys from the team. I'll resign first and prepare the torches, tar and feathers for the fool who does cut one or two of those guys.mslacatfan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 2:38 pmYou are creating a team with players over the last 20 years…. Ha. That’s fair. I see that debate a lot with nba, ya have to start one/bench one/cut one…. Thought I would add in a 4th though, makes for a good debate.Joe Bobcat wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 11:51 pmNo way am I cutting any of those 4 players. two will play QB (probably Lulay and McGhee) and the other 2 will play running back or slot or safety or something else. Re: Golden Coolie Questions
Would be very intrigued to see Lulay and McGhee in modern offenses. Two QBs who had the run threat but mostly used their legs to find open receivers. They had solid run games but nowhere near what we have right now.

Re: Golden Coolie Questions
Agreed. Lulay had one year of Ryan Johnson, the next year Bruce Molock, 2004 Justin Domineck, then 2005 was Evin Groves. Basically nobody behind any of these RB's. Lulay was either the leading rusher or second leading rusher every season of his career, and the majority of the yards he gained were scrambling for his life, or the result of broken plays.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 9:51 amWould be very intrigued to see Lulay and McGhee in modern offenses. McGhee had much better depth of RB talent to work with during his time as a bobcat.

Re: Golden Coolie Questions
McGhee was better his first two years. Lulay was right with him the third year and was better his senior year partially due to McGhee being injured. Lulay was better at the end but the full body of work as a college quarterback has me siding with McGhee.

I think fans forget how talented of a passer Denarius was. Lulay was a gamer but Denarius was the closest thing we had to a draftable QB at MSU. He could make all the throws.

Game on the line, I’m going Lulay 100% of the time. Denarius probably was a more complete qb, but Lulay had that magic.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 11:32 amI think fans forget how talented of a passer Denarius was. Re: Golden Coolie Questions
That reminds me, not to derail the thread but one of my most painful memories in Bobcat stadium (2nd to THE snatching defeat from the jaws of victory that shall not be named), was losing to EWU in like triple OT... but I can't remember if we lost it on O or D? Anyway, that was Lulay.Common Cat wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 6:26 pmGame on the line, I’m going Lulay 100% of the time.
