How we have won 19 games this year when we shoot so poorly is amazing. Middle school teams shoot better than we do. I really don't get it.
Back to back 20 win seasons baby.
Good reminder that winning ugly sure as hell still beats losing. Go Cats!

And a season sweep of the Griz.

Ugly winning basketball is 1000x better than any kind of losing.

Women are on a 14-0 run, cut the lead to 70-62 with 2:16 to go.

This team plays good defense. Got a little lucky there with their kid stepping on the endline in Sac's last offensive sequence. Nobody can hit an outside shot. Belo, with 3 defenders hanging on him, kicks it out to wide wide open guys who chuck up bricks. Osobor is becoming a truly special player. Big steal and dunk when we really needed it. 20 win season secure. Number 2 seed secure-which isn't what we hoped for but it sets us up pretty good in the tournament. Next two games I hope our shooters will loosen up and have some fun making baskets with nothing to lose. Darius Brown looked like he rolled an ankle. Wouldn't be surprised if he sits out Saturday. Spinkle said Battle had a knock as well that he got in practice so maybe he'll be rested too. We'll see.

At this point, I say limit the starters' minutes or rest them entirely if they're dinged up. Play the freshmen and maybe find a guy who can come in and knock down a few shots. Right now the main guys look like they might lose a shooting contest to the ball kids and $11,111 giveaway contestants.

This is another Cats game that I attended that I just really did not enjoy watching. Yes, the band is great. There were a few good shots, dunks, blocked shots, but dang, there was just no flow to the game. Always good to get a W and getting 20 wins two straight years is special.

I don't know if the refs are calling games closer, or teams are fouling more or what. All I know is, when the flow of the game is constantly interrupted, the result is just not something enjoyable to watch.

I never like to criticize any particular player. But we know there are some of our guys who are really struggling from the 3 point line. I have a question about a Bobcat player that hardly EVER gets any playing time. Why does Nick Gazelas not get ANY playing time at all? I have seen this kid play in games where he lit up the 3 point shot and scored over 20 points. Why does he ride the bench for a full game? Especially when you have other players who are not hitting their 3 point shots? Does anyone have an answer? Is he in Coach Sprinkle's dog house? If the guys that Sprinkle are playing are lighting it up from outside, then I could understand, but they are not. Just wondering.

Sums it all up perfectly.

And yes great question- why don’t we see Gazelas. The team had trouble even hitting the rim tonight. I think I counted like 8 air balls……. It was the worst shooting I’ve seen in a long time. There is no way that nick could be any worse..,,

We got the W, so it’s hard to complain……. But jeez, that was ugly.

It eas one of the best defensive performances I've seen. With the kind of shooting they did, have you ever seen at least three wins in a row totally won with defense? They were amazing! Brown has got to be in another league the way he can steal the ball. If you can disregard the air balls and stupid offensive moves, and watch their defense, you might enjoy the game. It's kind of like watching the '95 Bears the way they can shut teams down. Something you don't see much of in basketball.

It's kind of beautiful, in an ugly way....

Good point....this is one of the better defensive Cat teams I've seen.......it's won MSU several games. If the shooting would turn around, this team would be unstoppable.

We don't see much of Gazelas because he's part of the shooting problem. 23% overall and 20% from 3 this year isn't going to earn you a lot of playing time.

And Patterson’s numbers are significantly better at 37% and 35% from the arc.

Patterson's challenge is getting open to take his shot.

While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

I'm guessing you meant the '85 Bears. The '95 Bears weren't much to write home about. Also, the '85 Bears had Walter Payton on Offense which gives some pretty good punch.

The CATS WBB was another slow start and the three was their kryptonite again. Gonzales was hot for Portland last night on the three so they better devise a plan to stop her. Nice to see Hein in there. She looked good. Why was Dykstra not playing? The next two games are going to be a challenge and I bet they bounce back tomorrow strong. Last home game will be fun - looking forward to it.

We are the 2002 Bucs. The Detroit Pistons with Rip Hamilton and Ben Wallace, man they played good defense but the scores were always like 82-78, in the NBA.

I'm not sure it's basketball that is going to be able to win the tourney but honestly the tourney can turn into ugly basketball, and the Cats are sort of built for that. But eventually you have to hit like 30% of your shots from deep, don't you?

Defense alone might be good enough to get to the championship game, but EWU and all of their offensive talent will eat the Bobcats alive if they have to struggle to hit 60 points like last night.

A couple of notes on Sac, they have the 2nd best scoring defense in the league, behind us. They have the worst scoring offense though, and for as ugly as MSU can play we are 5th in scoring offense. When you pair the #1 and #2 scoring defenses against each other, and then #5 and #10 scoring offenses... well you get what happened Saturday.

Would have loved a better showing but Sac played hard and you can see why they are ranked #2 in scoring defense.

Beat me to it. Last year Gazelas shot nearly 37% from 3 and this year can hardly hit 20%. He was a solid sub last year but his play has really fallen off. I’ve watched him when he gets on the court and he mentally doesn’t seem to be in the game this year. Not sure what’s up but he needs to pick it up to earn more court time.

I was wondering why Jed Miller doesn’t get on the court in a backup role a bit more. Early in season, as a guard you could tell he sees the floor very well and distributes the ball perhaps better than anyone. And he shoots 48% from the arc albeit with only 25 shots taken so far this year. Just a freshman but I’m wondering why he hasn’t seen more minutes? Is he too short? Doesn’t take it inside enough? Does he lack the defensive focus Danny demands? Is he too slow for D1 ball? Is it just that he has two pretty good folks in front of him in Ford and Brown. Anyway, if looking for someone else to try the 3 ball I was wondering what was holding the kid back?!
