Re: Malik Mullins hits the Portal
Well, alright. To be honest I wasn't entirely sure why he signed here, but with two FBS dropdowns on the way this isn't surprising.

My post about where the WR's sit going into next year and this spring. Malik would've been in competition with Lonyetta Alexander Jr., Ty McCullough, and Aidan Garrigan along with several other of our younger outside receivers like Christian Anaya. I did not see him making the two deep after this spring unless he beat out the above four listed so this doesn't surprise me.Malik Mullins - got hurt early last fall and didn't come back until late in the year. He's a long receiver but you can tell he needs more development in route running and playing the position at a higher level. They brought him in to develop and eventually compete so this spring will also be huge for Malik to show he belongs with that outside receiver bunch.

These things happen at top programs. He’s a raw WR who could be a very good contributor but when the expectation is contending for a championship, more developed players see the field at skill positions.

I was pretty surprised by this one honesty. If it were a playing time thing, he spent the first few weeks injured. Then he started seeing the field in garbage time, even had an endzone target. His MSU practice film he posted shows crazy athleticism. I figured he was slotted to see some action this year.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 12:55 pmhttps://bobcatnation.com/bobcatbb/viewt ... 09#p816109

I just would like to see some consistency in the WR room but maybe that’s a lot to ask for any skill position with the portal these days.

Re: Malik Mullins hits the Portal
Young wide receivers are the worst for feeling they are ready out of highschool. There are very few who actually are. If they are not starting after one season and a spring, lots of them transfer. I've never heard of one who left us who was starting at their new school. Kramer gave up on freshman WR's. He went with JC's or dropdowns.

Not surprising and not the last to leave that room. MSU has put the writing on the wall the last 2 years as to what the plan is moving forward in terms of bringing in FBS transfers and plugging them into starting roles. I’m not saying its a bad plan just making a statement.

I’m somewhat surprised Marqui Johnson hasn’t tried to transfer even at his size. He’d be WR1/2 at lesser FCS schools and Taco seems to have the slot position next year.ThoughtUKnew14 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 11:54 pmNot surprising and not the last to leave that room. I would argue that, by saying he had a pretty damn big role last year….PapaG wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 7:02 amI’m somewhat surprised Marqui Johnson hasn’t tried to transfer even at his size. -most return yards in a season all time
-let of the RB rotation
-played quite a bit at Wr also
-had like 7 total touchdowns or something…..
Pretty big contributor for a sophomore.

Since Marqui has already transferred once from Sac State to MSU, I believe he'd need to sit out a year if he transferred again before graduating.PapaG wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 7:02 amI’m somewhat surprised Marqui Johnson hasn’t tried to transfer even at his size. Very little use as a WR outside of a sweep. I also wouldn’t have been surprised if he considered transferring, solely because it’s be hard to get your stock much higher than it was at the end of last season. Big time production in limited touches.mslacatfan wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 7:48 amI would argue that, by saying he had a pretty damn big role last year….PapaG wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 7:02 amI’m somewhat surprised Marqui Johnson hasn’t tried to transfer even at his size. Did not realize that Brown had pretty good success immediately upon transferring to FBS Texas State (22 catches 297 yards, 3 TDs.ThoughtUKnew14 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 6:33 amCharles BrownBelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 3:45 amJaden SmithHelcat72 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 10:25 pmYoung wide receivers are the worst for feeling they are ready out of highschool. Seems like a talent we could have used/developed.

Both those guys were studs. I would not be surprised to see Jaden Smith in the NFL.Travelingcat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 9:17 amDid not realize that Brown had pretty good success immediately upon transferring to FBS Texas State (22 catches 297 yards, 3 TDs.ThoughtUKnew14 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 6:33 amCharles BrownBelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 3:45 amJaden SmithHelcat72 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 10:25 pmYoung wide receivers are the worst for feeling they are ready out of highschool. The flip side of that is coaches know what they are looking at for performance in each WR position. If player doesn't show the progression to do those things, they will fill role with experienced player that can.ThoughtUKnew14 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 11:54 pmNot surprising and not the last to leave that room. Re: Malik Mullins hits the Portal
I get what your saying but progression and coaching go hand in hand. Its called development. Brown & Smith both seemed to show progression and developed just fine in other programs. This just seems like a quick fix MO over the past couple of years.tetoncat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 10:34 amThe flip side of that is coaches know what they are looking at for performance in each WR position. Re: Malik Mullins hits the Portal
Or they showed progression at other schools because of their development here. Or the other WR's on the other teams weren't that good. Or they didn't like the weather. Or...

Or they missed their family. Or they missed their friends. Or they had to go back and help their elderly relatives. Or they missed their childhood activities.
How many Montana kids not involved in collegiate athletics switched from UM to MSU and vice versa?
