Top 2007 Montana football recriut

Post by mslacat » Mon Jun 12, 2006 7:19 am

Scout.com has released its pre summer top 100 North West foot ball players list the only Montanan on the list is @ #95 Matt Husted OL Helena (Mont.) Helena 6-5/270/5.2 (40 time). I guess that makes him the best prospect at least according to them. Thaoughts. Montana, Boise St., Oregon, Oregon St. and Washington are said to be his short list.

I saw him play as a Sophomore I thought WOw!! Last year I understand he was hurt early. He sounds like he might be Pac 10 caliber, good for him

MSU will have a great chance this week to evaluate the class of 2007 since their football camp is this week (Sunday - Weds.) Talking to friends in Billings it sounds like most of the AA teams went to camp in Bozeman this week.

Pretty sure Hustad is leaning UM at this point.

I watched him play baseball when he was younger(11-12 years old) and he was an incredible athlete then. I didn't realize he was so big now. He is a great athlete!

If it is the same kid that I am thinking of, he played DE at Belgrade. I thought that he did a good job. I hate to compare, but my first impression was that the kid had come out of a Neil Smith mold. I that the kid is not Neils son, but he is of the same type of build.

Clay Bignell, LB, from Helena Capitol is the only returning AA first team all state player on defense. He's 6-3, 215 and plays tight end also. He's Joe Bignell's nephew.

Sign him!! Put him in the TE spot. No 'D' could stop Joe on a quick over the top pass from Bradley. Speed wasn't a consideration w/ Joe (power and determination were)- great hands and it took a herd to pull him down.

Actually, Dan Ogden from Kalispell was first team all state on defense and he was a junior. He is now 255. MVP of bobcat camp.

Matt Hustad top Player in Montana?

Easily one of the top players, if not the top player, in Montana next year will be Matt Hustad. We saw the talented lineman at the NIKE Camp in Oregon and he's definitely one of the most athletic big men we saw anywhere in the West region this year.

DL-OL Matt Hustad was one of the more impressive players we saw at the NIKE Camp in Oregon

At 6-6, 250 pounds, Hustad has a great frame that he's still growing in to and was very impressive when we saw him in Eugene. The lineman clocked a 5.05 in the 40 and his 4.38 shuttle time was one of the best by any lineman we tested all year. He also jumped 27 inches in the vertical and did 15 reps on the bench.

Hustad has the ability to play on either side of the ball and is getting recruited on both sides as well.

"I would prefer to play defense and what position the school recruits me for will play a big role in my college choice," Hustad said. "Montana has offered me a scholarship and I'm also hearing from Oregon State, Oregon, Washington State, Washington, Colorado State, Idaho, Cal, Wyoming, Boise State and Stanford.

"I'm open right now but I would like to play in the Pac 10. A lot of these schools have said they'll be watching my first couple of games this season and will decide pretty early if they want to offer me or not. I'm looking for a school that has a successful football program as well as a school with a Physical Therapy program since that is what I want to study. It would be great if I could make my decision in the fall but I'm just going to see how things play out and who decides to offer me."

Academically, Hustad is carrying a 3.3 GPA and scored a 23 on the ACT

I watched this Hustad kid play baseball this summer and he was incredible. Are the Bobcats even looking at him? He could probably play anywhere on either side of the line. Another all around athletic kid from Great Falls Shawn Tatarka should be looked at. Ryan Fethersten out of Helena I was told looked good at the Bobcat camp and is another all around kid. I think the Bobcats would be missing the boat if they don't take a hard look at these kids.
