Re: The Weather Outside is Frightful
Is there a chance they would/ could postpone if this storm is as bad as predicted? Does player safety regarding traveling, and playing, ever factor in?

Stop whining! You sound like a bunch of Williams and Mary's complaining about the weather! If you're concerned about SDSU's passing game this storm is the perfect tonic. Likely to be short passes and lots of long MSU runs. Go Cats!!

That's the truth, I remember getting 8" of snow in May in NoDaK... the wind blew it into 8' drifts across the road.ringthebells wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 6:45 pmThere will be heaters on both sidelines. There have been for every other cold weather game. Occasionally each side will also have a storage container like thing on the sidelines as well. Not exactly sure what for. I only see them when it is nasty cold. Whether it is used for heat or a wind break or what, not sure.
If you are driving, be careful. I realized when I moved to the flat side of the state that it is not the amount of snow that is dangerous around here, it is the wind. There is absolutely NOTHING to stop it. A few inches of light snow and 20 mph wind and you won't be able to see your hand in front of your face. Some areas of the state are calling for 1-2 feet of snow and 50 mph winds. Crazy amounts of ice could hit the south east part of the state if you are driving up from I-90 to I-29. I assume the ice will be cleared by Saturday, but downed power lines and loss of electricity could impact Sioux Falls and surrounding areas.

We have an excused absence this weekend for Moms 80th birthday. So I won't tell people to not whine and will commend those brave enough to go.
But you are 100% right about the weather limiting the Bunnies passing game. Really, the crappier the weather the better.

So what you’re saying it is winter in the north and it might snow and it might blow and it might be cold?ringthebells wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 6:45 pmThere will be heaters on both sidelines. Re: The Weather Outside is Frightful
It's not impossible, but it would take a storm of epic proportions to do that. The NFL has had this happen a few times but that's a multi-billion-dollar business that can afford to do that. I wouldn't be surprised if they had insurance for it.
This is a big storm, but I don't think it's going to cause this game to be postponed. It would need to snow a couple feet and/or be sub-zero temps that start knocking out a lot of essential services before it would get postponed. It almost needs to be a public health risk.
I doubt it, but you never know.

Thanks. I wasn't suggesting they should necessarily, just wondered if that ever could happen.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 8:56 pmIt's not impossible, but it would take a storm of epic proportions to do that. Let it snow! We've had back to back arctic games, this is what we are built for.

Re: The Weather Outside is Frightful
I suspect the logistics of moving the game to the Fargo Dome at such short notice would really be tough.
Some of us are old enough to remember watching the Green Bay vs. Dallas Cowboys classic game in 1967, named the Ice Bowl because it was well below zero and the natural turf field at Lambeau Field was frozen and hard as a rock. I think it was 13 below. We are talking about 13 above in Brookings.

If they were going to move the game indoors, they would move it to Vermillion which is the home of USD and they have a dome. Plus, it’s only 120 miles from Brookings and a horse apiece from Sioux Falls.

Re: The Weather Outside is Frightful
I remember the 2014 playoff game in Bozeman vs SDSU was played in a blizzard as well. Probably wasn't as cold as this will be, though.
