Top Safeties

1.) Kane Ioane (2000-2003): 4x All-American; 4x All-Big Sky; 2003 Big Sky Def. MVP; 2nd in All-Time Tackles; 5th most tackles in a season (rest are LBs); Tied for 5th for tackles in a game (21 twice); 2004 Bucs Training Camp; Long-Time MSU Assistant and now Co-Def. Coord. at Boise State; in the conversation consistently for one of the greatest Bobcats of all time.
2.) Doug Kimball (1982-1985): HM All-American (1984); 1st Team All-Big Sky (1984); Tied for 2nd in All-Time INTs; #1 for INTS in a Season (10); Was not only brilliant during the regular season, but also the championship run in 1984
3.) Brayden Konkol (2016-2019): 2nd Team All-American (2019); 2x All-Big Sky; Famously stated he knew MSU would win the 2019 Cat/Griz game the prior Sunday before the game; started all four years with some time at LB early in his career
4.) Shon Flores (1998-1999): 2nd Team All-American (1999); 2x All-Big Sky; Hula Bowl All-Star Game participant (2000); had 218 tackles in his only two seasons at MSU
5.) Joe Roberts (1981-1984): 2x All-Big Sky; Team Captain of the 1984 team; Arguably made the biggest overall play in MSU history with his 97 yard interception return in the semi-finals to spearhead the Cats into the title game
6.) Morgan Ryan (1990-1993): HM All-American (1991); 2x All-Big Sky; 1st in All-Time INTs (22); Tied for 2nd in INTs in a Season
7.) Jim Anderson (1979-1982): HM All-American (1981); 2x All-Big Sky: Tied for 2nd in All-Time INTs (16); Tied for 2nd in INTs in a Season
8.) Bob Banaugh (1969-1971): HM All-American (1971); Tied for 7th in All-Time INTs; Tied for 2nd in INTs in a Season
9.) Stuart Dodds (1976-1979): HM All-American (1979); Tied for 9th in All-Time INTs; Tied for 4th in INTs in a Season
10.) Ryan Force (2003-2006): 3x All-Big Sky; Had to fill Kane Ioane's shoes as the next best safety at MSU and he did a great job as Ryan was extremely consistent for MSU during his career

Honorable Mentions

Bryson McCabe - 10s: Team Defensive MVP in 2016; 2x All-Big Sky
Joel Fuller - 10s: 2x All-Big Sky
Michael Rider - 00s/10s
Kevin Retoriano - 00s: Team Defensive MVP in 2008; 2x All-Big Sky at two positions
Kenneth Qualls - 00s
Scott Matthews - 90s: 6th All-Time in Career Tackles (#2 safety on the list behind Kane)
Mark Grimmer - 90s
Bob Kimball - 80s
Jim Sturdeveant - 80s
Jim Mickelson - 70s: HM All-American (1978); 1st Team All-Big Sky (1978)
Vince Dodds - 70s
Steve Dodds - 70s: 2x All-Big Sky
Monte Boston - 70s: Tied for 7th in All-Time INTs; Tied for 3rd in INTs in a Season
Russ Dodge - 60s

You could coin flip a lot of the Top 10, especially the 2-6. All three Dodds brothers made 1st Team All-Big Sky at least once during their career. This is a great group but you can't really argue anyone other than Kane at the top. 4x All-Americans don't just happen that often. He is the greatest safety MSU has ever had and belongs on the MT Rushmore of Bobcats in my opinion.
