For those of you saying we weren't supposed to compete and we're just happy to get paid, why? Why is that enough? I realize we aren't NDSU but they get paid to WIN against P5 teams. This isn't Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, USC, etc. etc. I don't think expecting a 10-14 point loss and only giving up 35 or so is too high of an expectation for a team wanting to compete for national championships.

Sometimes you do well in these games, sometimes you don't. It's a crap shoot. MSU had a shot at being in the game or even winning but had just a good a shot of getting lit up. FCS teams that win these games aren't guaranteed anything.

Worst defense I've seen in 20' years. Why can't we make any kind of adjustment? We'd win this game with lady years defense.

Rivercat, you and i are jiving on this. We're young and it's snowballing on us, due in no small part to our conquering hero throwing 2 ghastly interceptions. To think this portends much of anything about the way we'll play the bsc schedule is a fools errand imo.

I love Tommy. But to scream about our defense, scheme, whatever without signing him some blame here is not legitimate. He'll be fine, we'll be fine, but you can't make those throws i don't care who you're playing.

Pretty sure some people criticized him and nobody argued. Yes those were bad picks. Just like you can't leave a third of the field wide open on third and 10.

Yes, there's plenty of blame to go around. Things haven't exactly lined up for MSU since the first MSU drive. In 4-5 plays MSU scored a KORTD and threw two INTs.

Total yardage is 373-83. I didn't expect us to beat OSU, but we shouldn't be getting dominated this thoroughly, if we expect to be a top 5 FCS team this year.

1000% behind this line of thinking. Great teams play up to better competition, they don’t fold. We’ll see what the Cats show in the second half, pretty disappointed in what they’ve shown collectively so far outside of 1 exciting offensive series and kickoff return.

This team is going to have to grow into a contender if we're going to be one. We were never going to be even close to a finished product this early. Add to that being down all our running backs and no, I'm not stunned or worried about this game at all. These guys need to play together a bunch and grow into that contender, which may be this year or may be next year. If we win 8-9 games, which we will, and get to the quarters with all the talent we lost and all the kids we're playing that bodes well for this program, very well, going forward. I think it's reasonable to say the team that won the semifinal game would have had a better first half here. This group is not that group. Might be by November but isn't now.

Not always. I remember a team winning a national championship after losing to a team that hadn't won a game and finished 3-8.

Unless you think Mellott and the defense would have games like this against all similar teams, I can see your thinking here. That's just not the case. Mellott is not going to play like this every game going forward. Neither will the defense. I doubt Johnson is going to run 2-3 KOs back for TDs every game, since he's good enough to do it once vs a P5 team.
