I think that guys biggest drawback for the NFL was his lack of speed. Do doubt Dante was very good in college. His skill set matched very well with the gris defensive system. The weakness was very evident in the 2019 Cat gris game. Running outside the tackles.AFCAT wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 7:39 pmI think that guys biggest drawback for the NFL was his lack of speed. Re: Troy Freaking Andersen!
Unlike Dante Olson, Troy Andersen isn't going to run a 4.88 40. His athletic numbers, as much as anything else, are the key to why he is going to play a long time in the league (assuming he avoids serious injury). The production is just reinforcing that he knows how to put those athletic numbers to use on the football field.94VegasCat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 5:38 pmA year ago there was a team with guy in our conference that the alum of said team, was a lock for the NFL due to his greatness. I remember see that 4.88 time posted for his 40 during the combine blew my as to how slow that really is. It's difficult for some to understand how much of a gap is created between someone who runs a 4.45 or faster vs 4.80 or slower on the football field at different yardages. I found this video from the 2013 combine with a ton of recognizable players that compares 40 times by overlaying their videos. Have to post it with link only because the video wouldn't show because of NFL constraints.

Dante Olson was a star in the Big Sky and FCS but his lack of lateral quickness and overall speed to be a professional linebacker should have been clear to most evaluators (and in the end it was). Simply put, Dante projected as a two-down linebacker who excels at stopping north/south run schemes but was a complete liability in pass coverage. Could've been a great special teams player but NFL scouts can find those guys anywhere.
Troy is different because 1) he's a better overall athlete and 2) better overall football player than Dante. Doesn't really have to be more discussion past that as it isn't very hard to understand.

Re: Troy Freaking Andersen!
Concern I have for Troy from the last season and from the Senior bowl was he has a tendency with all that great speed to overrun the quarterback or running back and running back cuts back on him and breaks his ankles. He's just got to learn to control that last second and lock up. I think he'll go late in the third round and end up with any team except the raiders I would hate to see him play for the rangers. New England, Rams, or Tampa Bay for my first choices.

At first glance 11 FCS players. Two from BSC. Six from MVFC. NDSU and No. Iowa both have two.

I remember the brain trust on egriz talking about how daunte olson would be a better pro prospect than Troy Andersen. Now the same brainiacs are ****** all over Troy's draft prospects and what he did at the senior bowl. They gris have the worst fan base in this country.Travelingcat wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 1:21 amUnlike Dante Olson, Troy Andersen isn't going to run a 4.88 40. During one of the MSU playoff broadcasts, the analyst said Tommy Mellot had the second fastest acceleration on the team. The only person faster was Troy.Helcat wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 11:27 pmhttps://connect.zebra.com/SrBowlInsights
Hopefully this link to zebra technologies that tracked the players in the senior bowl works. To summarize, Troy hit 20.29mph for the sixth best linebacker for the past 4 senior bowls (101 linebackers) and the top max acceleration of 6.01 yards per second squared. His max acceleration is 6th best for all players for the past 4 years. Not sure what it means for 40 times or how much teams use it for scouting purposes, but impressive nonetheless
