Colter said on his show yesterday that Erickson will be heavily involved in mentoring the new OC this spring.
So it's kind of like Texas Tech sending coaches to MSU for "finishing school"

I think with this hire of Justin Udy, who's specialty is 'grooming' QB's, will make this spring & fall QB competition really something to watch.
* Does Casey Bauman, who might have the most physically gifted arm of the bunch, with the right coaching come out and seize the starting position?
* With almost a full year starting under his belt, does Tucker Rovig take the next step in consistency & performance under Udy's mentoring?
* Does Matt McKay show he's stands above everyone and thrives under our system and coach Udy?
My guess is we won't know who the starter is until 2-3 weeks before our opener with Long Island on Sep 5th. GO CATS!

Well, his resume is not his strong point, so to win this OC position at MSU he would have had to had some strong people in his corner who spoke to his capabilities and his interview must have been a revelation. I trust Coach Choate to know what he will bring to the table. I loved Matt Miller and felt he was just beginning to hit his stride last season.
Curious to see what kind of Offense Udy wants to install at MSU. Another fun offseason talking point, and more grist for the mill!
You say that his resume wasn't his strong point, and also they you loved Matt Miller.
Udy has a better resume coming into the OC job than Miller did.
Obviously it's an opinion simply shared, but I think backed up by what Coach Choate shared on the hire. Sharp guy, backed up by sharp guys, who was able to communicate a style and vision that intrigued Coach.

Alright? Has some potential I guess?
Sounds like a great hire. Heard Udy is very smart and aggressive. Can't wait for spring. I trust Jeff.
Agreed, trust Choate.
Learning under Wells at Tech is a great thing as well…interested to see what changes our offense has. Imagine our DNA stays the same … with running backs like we do its hard not to succeed.
Sources I talked described him as "rising star", "unbelievably prepared" and "a straight genius."
Colter...any chance you'll get him on for an interview with you and Tootell?

I think one of the benefits next fall is teams won’t know our tendencies out of the gate. Yes we are run first, but play calling can follow human nature which Udy and Miller will have differences.

Think the biggest challenge will be the self scout and adjustments made after coaches in the big sky start to catch up. Miller did a good job of that after the North Dakota game.
Will be interesting how well he develops qb’s.

Has anybody heard any news on what to expect from our new OC? Will he bring in his system or will he adapt to what we already have in place?

Now, says the coach who works tirelessly at improving every element of his team, it's time for more. The process of selecting an offensive coordinator to replace Matt Miller, one of Choate's originals hires in December, 2015, presented that opportunity. "When I go to the national convention or visit high school coaches in the recruiting process," Choate says, "people know how well we run the ball. Our commitment to running the ball, and our success, is obvious. But something that's been very intriguing to me is matching our DNA, this run game, with some Air Raid concepts. We want to be more diverse (offensively), more explosive."
When analyzing how best to enhance Montana State's passing attack, Choate's thoughts drifted to what the scheme he saw from Texas Tech back in August. "They use a lot of RPO, pop pass, play action, and those were the things that when (Udy) presented it to us got me excited. I thought, if we can do this with what we're doing here (in the run game) this could be really good."
Just a couple paragraphs from:
https://msubobcats.com/news/2020/2/7/fo ... -game.aspx
"A Police state is a tyrannical government that engages in mass surveillance, censorship, ideological indoctrination,
& targeting of political opponents." Interesting, if not scary times!

So, what about the younger QBs on the roster, which of them will be next in line to get reps once the team gets to practice?
Great time to be a BOBCAT!
