Long drive for one day but it can be done depending on when you get to Salt Lake. On the way back from the Gallatin Valley, I always made a trip to Butte but you could go back through Ennis and make certain you eat in the Gravel Bar and Grill, go up past Quake Lake into West Yellowstone and take the west loop back through the Tetons. I'd actually plan a minimum of four days because it's a lot of driving. You can also skip the west loop of Yellowstone because it's going to be packed that weekend. Just head for Salt Lake from Butte.
Four days minimum. Just the drive from Idaho Falls to either Red Lodge or Cody is a long one. Seven or eight days is a bit more relaxed. I hate driving into the sun is why I take that route.

For my information, what is the good restaurant in Belgrade? The mexican place closed a couple years ago.....catsrback76 wrote:Cat Grad wrote:When I lived and worked elsewhere, I used to fly into Salt Lake, pick up the rental and drive to Idaho Falls, go to Jackson, Wyoming and up through Jackson Hole to see the Tetons (and the National Park), enter Yellowstone and take the east loop and either exit toward Cody or Red Lodge depending on my mood and the passengers. I've had people I was raised with tell me the Mint is good now, but I don't think it's anything special to go out of the way for, it's just better than what is in Bozo...I'd just as soon go to one of the chains on 19th in Bozeangeles than their trendy places...Still like Sir Scotts in Manhattan, Logan, the Sacajewa in Three Forks or now the one in Willow Creek is good.vike_king wrote:For my information, what is the good restaurant in Belgrade? Try the Mint and let me know it you think it is as good as Manhattan, Logan, Three Forks, Willow Creek or Ennis. The airport in Belgrade is better than what is in Bozeman, in my opinion.

If you think the airport is better than Bozeman good, you’re eating at the wrong places.

I'd rather get a hot dog from Town Pump than eat that crap they charge 50 times what it is worth in Bozeangeles...player rep is a bozeman chickenhawk...the only good food served in bozeangeles is from the dorms or the SUB.bobcat99 wrote:If you think the airport is better than Bozeman good, you’re eating at the wrong places.

Re: Visiting Bozeman
There's a new place called the Local American Saloon where Rio Sabinas used to be. It's burger and steaks. After a few kinks they seem to be getting things worked out. Really nice place.vike_king wrote:For my information, what is the good restaurant in Belgrade? The mexican place closed a couple years ago.....
Bar 3 BBQ and Brewing tucked behind the old grain elevator warehouse/insulation plant is always good. They're renovating a place on East Main Street next to the Fire Station and park in downtown Belgrade. The renovation is going really slow, but it should be really nice when it's finally done-probably this fall.
Mackenzie River Pizza on West Main Street has been there a long time and is always good.
Fiesta Mexicana on Jackrabbit is popular with the locals. Their staff is really nice and you won't leave hungry.
The Mint is really good again.

Taco Bud across the street from Fiesta is better than Fiesta. But no unlimited chips and salsa...BelgradeBobcat wrote:There's a new place called the Local American Saloon where Rio Sabinas used to be. It's burger and steaks. I live in SLC and drive to every game. It is 6 hours to Bozeman through Idaho Falls to Rexburg (on 20) and then to West Yellowstone and up. Easy and pretty drive. Going through Jackson and the south entrance to Yellowstone is gorgeous but will take much longer.WESTERNLEATHERNECKS wrote:Thanks for all the in put! Welcome to BN and I am sure you will enjoy your time in beautiful Montana. If you prefer to fly into Montana rather than Salt Lake, check out prices into Butte (Bert Mooney Airport—which has just been redone) because prices are generally much less expensive than flying into Bozeman. Rent a car and drive the 80 miles on 80 MPH Interstate. As you have read here, there are lots of things to do within a relatively short distant from Bozeman. You could also contact the Montana Office of Tourism and they would be more than happy to send you information to help give you ideas for your stay.

I like to piss, it certainly beats the alternative. I do have to admit that pissing was easier when I was younger.Cat Grad wrote:Ah hell! Best places to eat in Bozeman: Copper, Open Range, The Bay, Mid-town Tavern
Best places to eat in Belgrade: The Mint, Fiesta Mexicana, Bar 3. Flying J isn't bad for truckstop food
The mint is definitely on par with the Oasis now.

A few miles to the West gets you a farmers field, I mean maybe you could hunt some prairie chickens if your walker goes that far?

Re: Visiting Bozeman
I have always had good food and drink at Montana Ale Works. Their meat loaf is very good. And a trip to Bozeman is not complete without a cheesesteak from the Picklebarrel. Back in my original days in Bozeman you could not beat a burger steak, eggs and hash browns with a quart of milk at Manny's. Those were the days.
