HIRE DIRDEN!
I posted this in another thread, but thought I'd start a new one....
Why can't we get rid of Brad ASAP and move assistant coach Shawn Dirden up to interim head coach and keep him at a similar salary for the year? This would hopefully give MSU bball a bit of a shot in the arm and minimize the impact on our budget as we have to honor Huse's contract for another year.
Can this happen?

Re: HIRE DIRDEN!
I highly doubt that an assistant coach would agree to take an interim head coaching position while still staying at his assistant coaching salary level. If my employer asked me to temporarily step into a higher level position to replace a departing employee, I would expect a rise in salary commensurate with the new position I was taking on. That being said, I agree that Dirden is an asset to the MSU program and would be a great choice for an interim head coach in the highly unlikely event that one is needed.

Fields would need to fire Huse first. Remember who gave Huse a 2 year extension?SACCAT wrote:Then what is?allcat wrote:I don't think the money is the problem.

Yeah....definitely solid points. Just trying to think of a way to make it happen with as little of an impact on AD budget as possible....whether that's realistic or not, that's perhaps another question.MSU01 wrote:I highly doubt that an assistant coach would agree to take an interim head coaching position while still staying at his assistant coaching salary level. Re: HIRE DIRDEN!
According to the budget. Mens bball actually made close to $200,000 in 2012-2013(I know its all fuzzy math). In the grand scheme of things,IMO, Fields biting the bullet on Huses contract would hurt, but not much. Some renewed interest with any new coach and the renovations will help cover some of the damage.wbtfg wrote:Yeah....definitely solid points. Just because you're a dreamer, that does not make you bad. Your dreams are just that though, the nightmare is that Fields is going to stick with Huse.

Just keeping it real

I do have trouble understanding why $130,000 out of an $18 million budget would be such a huge burden for athletics to overcome.

It wouldn't. If winning and turning the program around was a top priority they would deal with it.Hawks86 wrote:allcat wrote:Just because you're a dreamer, that does not make you bad. Your dreams are just that though, the nightmare is that Fields is going to stick with Huse.

Of course, if those were priorities, Huse wouldn't have gotten a 2 year extension last year.LTown Cat wrote:It wouldn't. Bump after today's news. I think if you are wanting to keep the players you have signed for next year, this is the best move.

Sounds like fields is opening application to anyone interested. No way dirden gets hired in an open application process.SACCAT wrote:Bump after today's news. I think if you are wanting to keep the players you have signed for next year, this is the best move.
I would have preferred to see dirden get a one year interim opportunity

Re: HIRE DIRDEN!
I've said for a long time we hired the wrong Huse. Shawn has done very well at MSU-N and has the men's team in the nationals again this year.
Just sayin'.

+1 on the job he has done at Northern. That campus and facility is a dump but he has managed to get high level talent in there and made them the team to beat in the Frontier year in and year out.KittieKop wrote:I've said for a long time we hired the wrong Huse. Re: HIRE DIRDEN!
Brad Huse won a ton of games at Jamestown in North Dakota-and that place is no nirvana. And when Durham left everybody in Bobcatnation wanted Huse-he was a very popular hire. And I would bet-if Huse ended up at a place like Montana Tech or some other Frontier type school, he'd win a lot again. It's just that D-1 is a whole different animal.c.falls cat wrote:+1 on the job he has done at Northern. Oh make no mistake, I am NOT lobbying for another Huse. Just acknowledging the job Shawn has done at Northern. If it were me I would go in a completely different direction. No huse. No Dirden. We need some fresh blood.BelgradeBobcat wrote:Brad Huse won a ton of games at Jamestown in North Dakota-and that place is no nirvana.
