I just posted a 'why' to auction style but thought I would post it here as well.
To me there is an advantage to all of the members to restart the league with an auction. All 14 of us have a chance at every player as opposed to the snake format, where the computer basically decides whether you have the right to a top 5 player or not.

I am fine either way but voted for the snake draft - the one auction I have done was only 12 teams and lasted 5 hours...I was not having much fun anymore by hour 5!

One other advantage we might have auction is we could set up a draft party for those in BZN :suds:

You can have a draft party with a snake draft :coffee:

:)

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

If it goes to an auction I'm out. I am more than willing to put $20 into a pot and split it all out to the winners at the end but not an auction. I play to have fun and enjoy it and as a student I don't have the ability to put out much more than $20

The auction draft isn't using actual money, you just get 250 imaginary dollars to spend on your players. The positive is that every team has the opportunity to "buy" every player if they are willing to bid high enough. It is quite a bit longer and tougher to keep track of than a snake draft.

What if you are unable to make it to the draft? do you just get stuck with the players that everybody else didn't want?

Sort of. Much like in a normal draft, the computer system will automatically bid for players according to the default player values the system has assigned to each player, or the values that the owner has entered for each player instead of the default values. For example, if Hanley Ramirez is valued by the draft system at $33, then the computer drafted teams will bid up to $33 for him as long as they have that much money left and his position isn't already filled by someone else. If one of the owners who is at the draft wants to bid $34 or higher, then the computer drafted teams wouldn't match the bid. Due to the budget not allowing any team to stock up on all superstars, the computer drafted teams will still end up with the good players that the human drafted teams didn't overpay for.

Nothing will really change for those who don't/can't draft. The big reason for giving everyone the option of draft format is fairness. Like in my earlier example, all 14 players will have a chance at a pujols/verlander/etc where as in a snake draft, your first few rounds are fairly well spelled out based on the computer randomly drawing draft position.

Fair enough. Any other auction I have done used actual money

I am easy:

An auction, with fake money, would be fine. With time limits they can go fast.

Did somebody say "Draft Party" in Bozeman for those who can make it???? Now that I live in the Helena area that might be fun! Everyone could get the chance to meet me!!!! :D :D :D :D

I like drafts that take some time. Especially if you're having a gathering.

I'm probably going to have to repost the poll. I know the votes stood at 8-5 snake but espn took it down when they rebooted.

When you get around to it, get on and vote in the new (old) poll. ESPN erased the results of the last one and we need to get this party started

So I have a question. If we do an auction and it gets towards the end of the draft when everyone can only bid a dollar or two, how does that work? Does it just take the first person who's fast enough to bid $2?

at the end if everyone just has a few bucks, it will probably be pretty fast. If someone has 2, they'll win...if not the opening bid would have it

Alright I did some mock drafts and I actually think it would be fun to do an auction this year. I voted too early in the poll and I'd like to switch it to auction. So when it's all said and done you can +1 for auction and -1 for snake.

There are 5 people left to vote on the poll. Get on there and do it so we can set the draft date and set a poll for keeper rules. As of this moment the votes are 6-3 in favor of auction with CatBliz's request to change

4 people left to vote. I've set the draft date for March 24 so I will end the poll on the 17th. Right now we've got 6-4 auction with CatBlitz's changed vote. If for some reason it ends in a tie, I will revert his initial vote back for the tie breaker
