Rabbits/Griz

Post by El_Gato » Sat Sep 17, 2005 1:21 pm

I decided to listen rather than wait til 10:30 tonight to WATCH this game ( ).

I'll post as the mood dictates (God I hate listening to gurnsbac).

So far, Griz O is still bad.

Griz score on 3rd drive, 50 yard drive or so; Washington is 7 of 10 I think but sounds like he makes his receivers work on most throws; main thing thus far is little/no pass rush by SDSU.

End of 1; Griz 7 Jacks 0.

Griz D gives up only a couple of 1st downs, Griz O gets about 100 yards of offense; big mistake by Griz special teams as punt returner fields ball at about the 1 and only gets to the 3 near end of quarter.

Hilliard got it out to the 11...

One thing is becoming pretty obvious for the Griz:

NO DEEP PASSING ABILITY. Washington's 7 completions are only for 56 yards.

Pretty much the way I thought this game would go so far. MSU dominated SDSU through 3 quarters last year and SDSU lost a lot of their offensive players from last year. If MSU hadn't been taking the tape off/celebrating in the 4th quarter that game last year 'shouldn't have even been close. SDSU plays hard, but just doesn't have the scholarship numbers yet to compete for 4 quarters against more elite Big Sky teams. They will get better as their scholarship numbers come up though. You never know though, if they can get some TO's and get a lead and make the Griz throw, they may have a shot.

Griz offense so far this year: 1) Run Hilliard (Good Plan) 2) Lob to Talmage :)

Big Sky refs just SCREW SDSU. You know if both Mick and gurnsbac say that it shouldn't have been a penalty against the Jacks, it was clean.

Pass Interference (NOT) against the Jacks gives the Griz a chance to score late when they should have been forced to punt.

Griz O is awful; only 1 score?

Modify that with a 3) wait for that timely penalty, i.e. pass interference on 3rd and long.

I don't think it's a good sign for griz fans that Mick Holein uses the word "loft" so often when Washington throws the football...

And if I hear gurnsbac start a comment with "I tell you what, Mick...", I may have to stop listening. WHY DO THEY THINK THIS MORON DOES A GOOD JOB? He sucks. He doesn't even analyze anything; I've said it many times, they should just go find the drunkest tailgater before each game & give him the mike; that would be quite a promotion!

Griz dodge a bullet. SDSU at the Griz 20; fumble; Griz will be able to run out the first half & take a COMMANDING 7-0 lead into the half...

It sure sounded like Hilliard took a lot of tough hits in the first half. The Griz are going to have to really lean on him early this year and it will be interesting if he can 'survive' through it all before their QB's actually start making some strides. If I was teams playing the Griz right now I would stack 8-9 in the box and make the Griz make a big play down field. So far it;s power running and dink and dunk.

Well, it will be interesting to see at this point: Does Bobby stay with an ineffective Washington? The Griz have moved the ball but only reached the red zone once. Overall, yes, they are winning, but they are far from impressive AS A TEAM.

I will admit that I am now beginning to be impressed with their D BUT, ISU, EWU, and MSU will all be more dangerous than any O they face, with the exception of Oregon. They are going to have to give up less than 14 points/game if they want to win the Sky.

This Griz O may end up as the worst they've had in 20 years. Anytime Washington tries to throw more than 10 yards downfield, it sounds essentially as if he just tosses it up for grabs, and that ain't gonna beat many BSC foes.

SDSU is a pretty decent team. Didn't we have to come back to beat them in the last minute of the game last year? Also they played Cal Poly very tough last year (14-7 I think). I agree that Washington sounds like a less than average quarterback, but the griz D is very strong as is Hilliard (he's averaging over 5 yds/carry today).

SDSU is an okay team this year. They lost their really good QB last year and 1-2 of their WR's if I remember right. MSU pretty much owned them for 3 quarters last year and seemed to let up and let them back in the game. One thing SDSU though .. SDSU is a pretty physical team it sounds like.

We were cruising 24-10 with under 2 minutes a year ago, wbtfg, and the Jacks needed several miracles to make it close. Plus, they lost quite a bit of that offense.

The Jacks would be middle of the pack in the Big Sky; I'd say behind MSU, dUMb, EWU, PSU, and ISU but ahead of NAU, WSU, and Sac.

So right now, the Griz are up 7 on the 6th place Big Sky team AT WaGriz.

Worst offense in 20 years, even with Lex.

The griz, at this point, sound a lot like the Cats of '02/'03. If you want to win games it will be up to the defense to keep people under 2 scores. We all know how far that took us into the playoffs and I would venture our offenses those years were better than what Baby has going this season for him.

Yeah, it sounds like they could very pretty simliar to the 2002 Cats offense (stud runner) and mediocre passing game (and with a good defense).

Is anyone else getting antsy for this Cal Poly game to start? Man I was even dreaming about the game last night and what type plays we would run against their defense :) Just over 4 hours away!!!!

GO CATS!!!

This is a huge game tonight. If we want to end a season better than 7-4 and get a chance to host a playoff game these are the games we must win. I wish it had been a day game - I hate waiting so long to get started.
