Nice job of going back 5 years Nick.
I know you girlzies are a little slow, but try to live in the now. Even your small narrow mind must recognize the large and growing support for the Cats all over the State. Conversly, one more year with baby hack and I'm thinking most girzlies "fans" will take their loud "look at me, I'm a girlzie, aint I special" apparel off and wait for a better day. A quick quiz for you girlz fans, can you define the word bandwagon? This year will be a true test to see how many fans are left after a mediocre season. I'm thinking the alumni in mazolla will be asking for hack's head.
Since you went back in time, I will too. I talked to a Bobcat player who was on the team that beat the girlz in 2002. He said wash/girlz was 1/2 empty after halftime. Instead of throwing trash, the girlz fans went home, lit a bowl, and tried to forget about that bad trip man.
Blah blah blah I think I've heard this every year and especially on Bobcatnation last year but the Griz ho hummed through the playoffs again.

I'd say the Minneapolis tag is an automatic dq for deciding what defines the true Montana. So, pipe down from out of state.
Montana and Montana State have very similar enrollment in the respective colleges of Liberal Arts. The differences are found in the emphasis within the colleges (Montana State is much more science focused, Montana humanities focused). The main differences between universities are in the professional schools. Montana State has a College of Engineering and a College of Agriculture, Montana has a College of Business and a College of Forestry, not to mention the J-School and Law School. Note that both the College of Ag and College of Forestry are small at both universites. (Roughly 600 each).

Furthermore, 516er, whoever said Eastern Montana and dryland agriculture is what defines Montana? Timber communities provided support for mining long before the railroads brought
homesteaders to settle the plains of Montana. The name Montana implies mountains, not flatlands.
If one wants to name Montana State as Eastern Montana State University, that would be a fair label, just as the University of Montana is the University of Western Montana. But giving Montana State an overall label is fighting words for this proud defender for Western Montana, the true home of God's country.

Western Montana is where 95% of all of the out of state transplants are moving (ie. Californian's). Most (but not all) of your fans are based in Western Montana and I have heard many a Griz comment that the stadium is filled with a majority of NON-Montana fans (ie. not born or raised in MT).

PS: I was born in Glasgow, lived in Malta, Havre, Fort Benton and Hamilton before going to school in Bozeman.

I have not missed a Grizzly home game since `99 so yes I was at the game in 02. Everyone returned to their seats in the third quarter as they do in every Griz game.

I remember in Bozeman in 2003 the Griz were up by three at the half and had been dominating (same halftime scenario reversed), and it took the Cat fans a while to come back in because of the tailgating. It was actually a little longer because it takes forever to get into Bobcat Stadium due to the security checkpoints (not complaining about them just stating fact.)

People filing in slow after halftime happens at all Bobcat games. However, that is due to the insanely fun tailgating we have outside our stadium. People tend to have a little too much fun :)

This comment baffles me. I was on the at team, and I never had any garbage thrown at me during the Cat/Griz game or for that matter the entire season… I guess you are simply making things up… Are you able to make stories up in other facets of your life? It amazes me that you even posted this- your post is complete bs.

The 2002 Cat/Griz game was empty after halftime. I felt that it was due to the sensation that the Griz were getting beat much worse then the score showed, but more likely it could have been due to the cold weather. To show just how fair weather the Griz fans are they left because it was too cold! It was definitely one of the coldest games that I had ever played in (I am from MN), but for crying out loud it is Cat/Griz! I guess the Griz fans went home to go sip on some hot cocoa… If you were at the game you know damn well that stadium was ½ empty by the start of the 4th quarter… I know that the Cat fans have a tendency to disappear during games, but we are not always self proclaiming our fans as the best fans in 1-AA.

gtapp, come back to Bozeman and see the Cali plates. Fact is, there's plenty of people moving into all parts of Montana (especially the I-90 corridor, which includes Billings/Bozeman/Missoula) from out of state. If they want to settle down and start acting like Montanans (including following either of the major universities in the state), more power to them. If they want Montana to be their country club and show distain for local custom, that's when Montana folk get real mad.

As one who was there on that fateful day in 2002, I'd give the Griz fans some credit. It wasn't half empty, although the general feeling was of hopelessness. The Bobcats put together a great job of coaching and the Bobcats played mistake free ball. I knew the game was over when Glenn went for it at the beginning of the fourth quarter, when Edwards couldn't convert for anything. It wasn't just a loss for the Griz program, it was a hopeless feeling of demoralization, and inept offense combined with a coaching staff that wouldn't trust the incredible defense. After all, the Cats held the ball for over 40 minutes that game.
But, that's the past. All the Griz fans plan to stick around Reno H. Sales this year when the Griz defeat the Bobcats for the 67th time! Go smack talk!

Your right about the CA's starting to discover Bozeman (before it was just Big Sky). I haven't seen the attraction to MSU sports that you see in Missoula. I am not sure how I would feel about that. On the one hand it would increase attendance but only if we win. I can do without those kind of fans.

Hard to break it to you Gman. Everybody has those kind of fans. Compare last years crowds to 2001 crowds. It happens to everybody from the Chicago Cubs all the way down to the Bozeman cats.

I don't see how having more fans is bad, regardless of what kind of fan they are, because the loyal hardcore Bobcat fans will always be there regardless of whether or not we have fickle fans.

As long as the bandwagon fans (if they can so be called) pay money, they are helping out MSU in finances and popularity, it can only lead to good things.

Nick's off topic comments are what turned this string into a "shot at the griz" Mike's original topic was all about the biggest Bobcat Town, nothing else. With the kind of smack inserted above, we will always take a shot at the griz.

In my business I regularly have clients who are new to the Bozeman area from all over the country. Many of them are just plain "sports nuts". Lacking pro and collegiate venues where they came from, many join the Bobcat camp and buy season tickets, join MSU/ASA, etc. Some have made considerable donations of money and time to Bobcat Athletics.

I'm sure the same is true at the "other" school, but I'll take the ones who are supporting the "Cats". Welcome Aboard!!

Let me put it this way. I have been a Griz fan all my life. I have been to every consecutive game in Washington-Grizzly Stadium since Montana beat Sacramento State 41-38 in 3 OTs during the Big Sky Conference opener of the 1999 season. I went to many Griz games before that but I have been to every game since -- and I can recall the scores of all of those games. I can't remember my driver's license number but I can remember each of the Griz games I've been to.

I remember the 2002 game more than I would like to. The stadium was 100% full up till around 5 minutes left in the 4th when the outcome was well known.

Once again, sorry to ruffle your panties. Go back to your discussion.........I'll even nominate Wibaux.
